EA Originals Partners with Dynasty Warriors Studio for a New Monster Hunter-like

EA has announced that its EA Originals label has entered a partnership with Koei Tecmo and Dynasty Warriors studio Omega Force for a new hunting game - that's like Monster Hunter hunting, not Big Buck Hunter hunting.

We don't know a ton of details yet about what this new hunting game will be, but EA did say it is a "AAA experience" and is based in fantasy feudal Japan. We're expected to get more details about it later this month, which could suggest a showing at Tokyo Game Show this week.

“The EA team fully embraces our creative independence and have become invaluable partners offering both development and publishing support," said Koei Tecmo executive VP Yosuke Hayashi. "Adding the global resources of EA with our own will help us introduce a new kind of hunting game to a global audience of players and expand our reach into global markets. I’m really looking forward to the day that gamers from around the world can play this new game.”

The EA Originals label was first announced back in 2016 following positive reception for Unravel. Its first game announcement, Fe, was developed by small Gothenburg studio Zoink. It has since gone on to publish games including Lost in Random, Rocket Arena, Sea of Solitude, Unravel 2, Knockout City, A Way Out, and IGN Game of the Year 2021 nominee It Takes Two.

The difference between all of these games and this new partnership is that up until now, EA Originals has largely partnered with smaller studios, generally between 10 and 70 people. Though it was not explicitly called an indie label, then executive VP Patrick Söderlund announced EA Originals seemingly implying it would be.

Of its three core pillars, he said, one was "about supporting small developers" and another was about "funding, and offering small studios a level of security." Koei Tecmo, with over 2,000 employees, multiple subsidiaries, and dozens of hit games, seems to be either a strange outlier or an indication that the EA Originals label is about to be taken in a new direction.

Koei Tecmo and Omega Force most recently partnered with Nintendo for Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, which we gave an 8 for being a "true hybrid of Fire Emblem’s social gameplay and Warriors’ battles" that "works despite overstaying its welcome and missing the mark when it comes to the more intimate interactions." Given that, it will be interesting to see how Omega Force's musou roots translate into a hunting game.

iPhone 14’s Sold in the US Won’t Include a SIM Card Tray

Last week at Apple's Far Out event, the company unveiled the iPhone 14 series, with most of the phones in the lineup set to release later this week. But if you plan to buy an iPhone 14 and live in the United States, you should know that it will not include a physical SIM card slot.

Of course, the iPhone 14 will have a SIM card, but it will have an embedded SIM (eSIM), which means that it will have an electric SIM card already included with the phone — no need to go to a store and physically purchase and install a SIM card in your device. Many major US carriers, such as AT&T and Verizon, also offer eSIM support.

Of course, the iPhone 14 is not the first Apple smartphone to include eSIM support, as it has been available in iPhones since 2018. However, until the iPhone 14, those that purchased an iPhone X series (or newer) had the option to use two SIMS at once: a physical and eSIM.

An Apple spokesperson told The Verge that the iPhone 14 can store "at least eight eSIMS, with up to two active at once."

There are a few benefits to eSIM, as it makes it easier (to an extent) to switch networks or try a new mobile carrier out with minimal strings attached. And with the latest major iPhone update, iOS 16, you can transfer your eSIM between iPhones via Bluetooth connection. But a major drawback to an eSIM is how difficult it may be if you decide to switch from an iPhone to an Android phone.

Daredevil: Born Again Won’t Be a Continuation of the Netflix Series

Daredevil star Charlie Cox says Daredevil: Born Again won’t continue the Netflix show.

During an interview with IGN at Disney’s D23 Expo, the 39-year-old Marvel actor confirmed that his upcoming MCU show won’t pick up where Daredevil left off.

“I don't think it means we're going to tell the Frank Miller story of Born Again in the comics,” he revealed. “I don't think it means that. I think it's — you know we made the [Netflix] show, it ended, years passed, and we're making another show. It's a perfect title.”

Charlie Cox starred in Netflix’s Daredevil show for three impressive seasons and was confirmed to return as Daredevil back last year.

He then made a surprise appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home — giving Peter Parker legal advice as his lawyer alter ego, Matt Murdock.

It was confirmed earlier this year that Charlie Cox’s Daredevil would be getting his own MCU series, and eventually Daredevil: Born Again was confirmed. But what does the title mean for the upcoming show?

“Born Again is iconically a Daredevil run in the comics and it's a great title for our show because we are doing this show again in a new way,” said Cox. “I think the show will be slightly tonally different — I don't know how yet — I haven't read anything yet. We're doing 18 episodes, that tells me that the structure and the way we're going to tell our story will be slightly different.”

The original Netflix show aired in thirteen-episode seasons, with Cox’s Daredevil also appearing in the eight-episode miniseries, The Defenders, alongside Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, and Finn Jones as Iron Fist.

How different the upcoming MCU version of Daredevil will be compared to Netflix’s version remains to be seen. But with a different creative team and Kevin Feige holding the reins, it looks as though a different kind of Daredevil is on the cards.

And it won’t be based on the 1986 Born Again comic book run. After all, Season 3 of the earlier Netflix show loosely adapted that arc already.

Halo Boss Bonnie Ross Leaves 343 Studios

343 Industries head and founder Bonnie Ross announced that she is leaving the studio.

“While I had hoped to stay with Halo until we released the Winter Update, I am letting you know I will be leaving 343 and attending to a family medical issue,” Ross says in a statement on Twitter.

She continues, “I am incredibly proud of the work everyone at 343 Industries has done with Halo Infinite, the Master Chief Collection, the Halo television series and so much more. It has been an honor to serve alongside the team for the last 15 years and to be a part of a universe that I love.”

In a statement to Windows Central, Microsoft says that effective immediately, head of production Pierre Hintze will take over as studio head in Ross’s place. He will lead the ongoing development of Halo Infinite, The Master Chief Collection, and future games. Bryan Koski will be the general manager of franchise and Elizbeth Van Wyck will be in charge of business and operations.

Ross has been with Microsoft for the past 28 years and lead 343 Industries for 15 of them. She has worked on a large number of Halo games, including Halo 4, Halo 5: Guardians, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and Halo Infinite.

Currently, 343 Industries is working on the Winter update for Halo Infinite, which releases on November 8 and brings the much anticipated Forge Mode as well as the online co-op feature for the campaign. Unfortunately, the split-screen co-op functionality has been canceled.

Leaked Images and Video of Meta’s Next VR Headset Appear Online

It appears Meta's next-gen Oculus VR headset may have leaked after an early version of the hardware was found in a hotel room.

Images and a video of an unannounced Meta headset surfaced online recently. The photos and video, originally posted on Facebook by user Ramiro Cardenas showcase the packaging and controllers for a headset labeled "Meta Quest Pro." Cardenas claimed that the headset was left unattended in a hotel room.

Although Meta has not officially announced a "Quest Pro" headset, based on the leaked images and video, this headset may be Project Cambria, a high-end VR headset Meta teased at its Fall event late last year. In July, Bloomberg reported that it spotted references to a device called "Oculus Pro" in Meta's code.

Meta has not shared much on the Quest Pro, such as release date, pricing, or specs. But we know that the headset will be more powerful than the Quest 2, but instead of it being a gaming-centric headset, it is designed for work.

"Later this year, we'll release a higher-end headset, codenamed Project Cambria, which will be more focused on work use cases and eventually replacing your laptop or work setup," Zuckerberg said during an earnings call in April. Within the last year.

While Meta has yet to announce the name of its new VR headset officially, the company announced last week that it is holding an event on October 11. CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the company will reveal its next VR headset and will likely share updates on upcoming games for its Quest products and the company's plans for its other endeavors, such as the metaverse.

This would not be the first time unannounced and unreleased devices were left unattended, with someone posting images of the products after finding them. In 2010, someone left a prototype of an iPhone 4 at a bar. If we are speaking more recently, Google's Pixel Watch prototype was found at a restaurant, while a prototype of the Pixel 7, which has yet to be released, was spotted on eBay in May.

Captain America: New World Order Star and Director Explain How a Post-Steve Rogers Movie Will Feel Different

Captain America: New World Order star Danny Ramirez has teased a different kind of Cap.

During an interview with IGN, the 29-year-old New World Order star, who previously appeared in Marvel’s The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, explained how this movie will feel different.

“I think Sam Wilson's his own person,” he said. “Specifically with the challenges that he faces in Falcon and Winter Soldier. A lot of the themes that we wrestle with, specifically, is the world ready for Sam Wilson as Captain America, and what that entails, and just seeing the wrestling of that in the series. And now the continuation of that.”

Sam Wilson is played by former Falcon, Anthony Mackie, who was handed the iconic shield by Steve Rogers himself at the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame.

It wasn’t until the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier that he stepped up as the new Cap.

“I'm just really excited,” added Ramirez. “We've been asked a lot about that dichotomy of Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson. And some people are like, ‘Yeah, but no,’ but Sam Wilson is our Captain America. And I think understanding and going fourth full tilt in that, and it's a really exciting place to be.”

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier explored some pretty heavy issues surrounding the new Captain America – specifically, whether or not America is ready for a black Captain America.

New World Order director Julias Onah explained why his different background makes Sam Wilson the perfect post-blip Captain America.

“Well, look, he is a different human being and coming from a different set of experiences,” he said. “Back in the Winter Soldier, we saw what it means for somebody like him to take the shield. But it is also a very different MCU. It's a post-blip MCU. It's a post-Thanos MCU. So, the world has changed a lot too. And the role of a hero has changed.”

Obviously, the film’s title hints that things have changed in a big way.

“What does that mean?” he asked. “The decisions he's going to have to make, and the situations he's going to be confronted with are radically different from what Steve Rogers had to deal with. And as a result of that, because he's a leader, now, of this team, he's got to make decisions that are going to have massive implications. So, the world has changed around him and he's a changed man, and I think that leads to some really exciting storytelling.”

Assassin’s Creed Mirage: Ubisoft Says It Won’t Have Gambling or Lootboxes After Rating Confusion

Ubisoft has made clear that an Adults Only 18+ rating that was presented ahead of Assassin's Creed Mirage's reveal was a mistake. The game will definitely not feature gambling or lootboxes, which were suggested by the rating.

In a statement made to IGN, an Ubisoft spokesperson said the game hasn't yet been rated and that any reference to an Adults Only 18+ rating - which apparently meant the inclusion of intense violence, blood and gore, sexual themes, partial nudity, and real gambling - was a mistake.

"Following the announcement of Assassin's Creed Mirage during Ubisoft Forward, some store pages mistakenly displayed the game for preorders with an Adults Only ESRB rating," said the Ubisoft spokesperson.

"While Assassin's Creed Mirage is still pending rating, Ubisoft wants to reassure players that no real gambling or lootboxes are present in the game."

This rating appeared ahead of Mirage's reveal at the Ubisoft Forward event last week and on its Xbox Store rating, causing many fans of the series to grow concerned over the "real gambling" element specifically, and how it could signal real money games or the potential inclusion of lootboxes.

This will come as a relief to many, especially considering Ubisoft's other recent announcement that it would be introducing an almost live service-esque hub system for its games in the future called Assassin's Creed Infinity, something that's often associated with lootboxes that offer randomised rewards.

Though exact details are still to come, Ubisoft has told IGN that Infinity is instead designed to be the player's own Animus that leads them into its various titles.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage Listed for £35 at Major UK Retailer

Assassin's Creed Mirage is now available to preorder in the UK, listed at £44.99 for the Standard Edition on the Ubisoft Store, £49.99 for the Deluxe Edition, and £129.99 for the Collector's Edition. But, preorders are also now available at UK retailer GAME, which has both the Standard and Deluxe Editions listed at just £34.99 at the time of writing.

This is either a temporary error or simply an amazing deal. Either way, GAME will not charge you until the game releases (pay on dispatch), so you've got nothing to lose preordering this. But, if this is an error, GAME will likely correct the price very soon, so I'd check it out as soon as possible if you want to take advantage.

Preorder Assassin's Creed Mirage for Just £34.99 Right Now

One catch with GAME is that you will have to pay for delivery when the AC Mirage launches (currently the release date is TBC), and the delivery charge is £5. So, in reality, you're looking at £39.99 for the Deluxe Edition - which is still £10 off list price directly from Ubisoft.

But, if you are feeling extra savvy about things, you can also opt to collect the game from your local store when it launches. This also costs £5 (don't ask why), but GAME does 'reimburse' you, by giving you a £5 voucher to spend in-store. Seemingly this isn't as good as getting free delivery (or free click & collect), but it's better than nothing, and worth knowing before you preorder.

I know what your next thought is - why is a new Assassin's Creed only going to cost £35-50? This isn't a big RPG Assassin's Creed, and will therefore have a tighter narrative, and less overall gameplay.

This is simply speculation, but this is likely why the game won't be listed at the new premium prices for AAA games in the UK, £65-£70. Instead, as it's a smaller game compared to the previously gargantuan Creed titles, you're looking at a maximum of £50 for the game.

Assassin's Creed Mirage Deluxe Edition Preorders - What's Included?

If you do opt to preorder the Mirage Deluxe Edition, there aren't a ton of extras, but when it's listed at the same price as the standard version, you might as well go for it.

The Ubisoft website states that the Deluxe pack will 'unlock a Prince of Persia–inspired outfit, eagle and mount skins, weapons, and more'. While GAME also says you'll be getting the bonus 'digital artbook and digital soundtrack' as well. All preorders will also include a bonus quest: The Forty Thieves.

  • Prince of Persia–inspired outfit
  • Bonus Eagle and Mount skins
  • Bonus Weapons
  • Digital Artbook
  • Digital Soundtrack
  • Bonus quest: The Forty Thieves.

When is Assassin's Creed Mirage Releasing?

Right now we don't have a date for when Assassin's Creed Mirage will hit PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, and PC. Ubisoft has simply stated the game will be released at some stage in 2023. So, that December 31, 2023 date is simply a placeholder on the GAME listing.

Daredevil: Born Again Star Charlie Cox on Appearing in She-Hulk, What to Expect from the Disney+ Series

Daredevil: Born Again star Charlie Cox has opened up about adapting his Matt Murdock in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, how dark the Disney+ series may be, and what else fans can expect when it arrives in 2024.

Speaking to IGN during D23 Expo 2022, Cox shared his thoughts on whether Daredevil: Born Again would follow the Frank Miller Born Again comic book run. While he claims he doesn't know one way or the other, he did share that he thinks the title is more of a sign that this is a new start for the character that began his life on Netflix and is now moving to Disney+.

"Great question, I don't know," Cox said when we asked him if Daredevil: Born Again would follow Miller's run. "I don't think it means we're gonna tell the Frank Miller story of Born Again in the comics. I don't think it means that. I think it means that we made the show, it ended, and now we're making another show. It's a perfect title."

In an interview with Variety, Cox discussed the tone of this new series and gave fans a small sense of how it will differ from the Netflix's Daredevil.

"I don’t know that it will be any more darker or any less dark," Cox said of Daredevil: Born Again compared to the Netflix series. "What does dark mean? There will be a tonal shift I’m sure because we’re doing more episodes and we’re now on a different platform. I don’t know, I haven’t read anything yet."

Cox did reveal that he changed up his portrayal of Matt Murdock for his appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law to fit the different tone of that show.

"What was fun about being in She-Hulk for this one episode is... obviously the tone of this show is radically different, and in order for it to be appropriate for me to be in that show, I had to adapt a little bit my Matt Murdock so he was in a place in his life where he’s having fun," Cox said to Variety. "Where life is good and he’s a bit cheeky and a bit flirty and it’s tonally slightly different. It was a bit of an experiment, but it was really enjoyable, and I really had a good time, and the chemistry I had with Tatiana was amazing. So, if they do lighten the tone a little bit, I’m not afraid of that."

While this may give us a hint as to how Matt Murdock will act in Daredevil: Born Again, Cox doesn't believe that a Matt Murdock going full slapstick would be the right choice.

"Not over the course of an entire season, not with this character," Cox told Variety. "I don’t think that’s truthful enough to the source material for that to really work. But, there are plenty of Daredevil comics where there is levity, there is light-heartedness, there is fun, and I think with 18 episodes you have time to do a bit of both."

Lastly, Cox talked about how getting the call from Kevin Feige to join the MCU and Spider-Man: No Way Home was truly special and how it led to his New York life never being the same.

"My life has changed since having a phone call with Mr. Feige," Cox said to Variety. "Just that one scene in Spider-Man and it now feels like there is a different level of appreciation and recognition. Considering it’s one scene, it’s been shocking. You know, it’s funny, because before hand, I live in New York, I’m on [Netflix's Daredevil], it’s a beloved character. You walk down the street and people are like, “What’s up, Daredevil!” But now, it’s like people know my name."

During D23, it was also revealed that Daredevil: Born Again will consist of 18 episodes and that it will start filming in 2023. For more from D23, check out our roundup of the Disney and Pixar Studio Showcase, the Marvel, Star Wars, and 20th Century Studio Showcase, and the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase.
