Chadwick Boseman Wins a Posthumous Emmy Award for Marvel’s What If…?
The late Chadwick Boseman has won a posthumous Emmy Award for his work as Star-Lord T'Challa in Marvel's What If...? and has added another accolade to his incredible career that ended way too soon.
Boseman, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 43 after a battle against colon cancer, won the award at Saturday's Creative Arts Emmys presentation at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Marvel Studios celebrated the moment on Twitter by saying, "Thank you to the Television Academy for recognizing the outstanding work of our King, the late Chadwick Boseman. #Emmys"

Boseman won the award in a category of other talented performers, including Moon Knight's F. Murray Abraham, Bridgerton's Julie Andrews, Big Mouth's Maya Rudolph, Central Park's Stanley Tucci, and What If...?'s Jeffrey Wright. The late actress Jessica Walter was also nominated for her work in Archer.
As reported by Deadline, Boseman's wife Taylor Simone Ledward accepted the award for her late husband and shared a few words about the honor at the show.
"When I learned Chad was nominated, I started thinking of everything that was going on in the world and our world and being so in awe of his commitment and dedication and what a beautiful moment that one of the last things he would work on was something so important to him and to the world but also something new," Simone Ledward said. "You can’t understand your purpose unless you ask what if? What if the universe is conspiring in my favor? What if it’s me? Chad would be so honored and I am honored on his behalf,” she said.
Boseman appeared in four episodes of What If..?, including 'What If... The Watcher Broke His Oath?,' 'What If... Killmonger Rescued Tony Stark?,' What If... Zombies?!,' and What If... T'Challa Became a Star-Lord?.'
Boseman won a Golden Globe for Best Actor - Motion Picture Drama for his performance in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. He was nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards in 2021 for the same role, but he lost to The Father's Anthony Hopkins.
While Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will star someone else as the titular hero, Boseman's presence will still be felt throughout the film, as evidenced by the emotional and powerful first trailer.

The Callisto Protocol Director Glen Schofield Apologizes for Possible Crunch Comments
The Callisto Protocol director Glen Schofield has apologized for his previous comments that hinted at a possible crunch culture at his studio Striking Distance.
As spotted by those like Ian Walker, Schofield tweeted out a statement that he and his team are working 6-7 days a week for 12-15 hours each in order to finish The Callisto Protocol. While he wrote that no one was "forcing us" to do this, a lot of the problems in studios experiencing crunch stem from the top and can create a silent expectation for others to work as much as they do.
"I only talk about the game during an event," Schofield wrote in the now-deleted tweet. "We r working 6-7 days a week, nobody's forcing us. Exhaustion, tired, Covid but we're working. Bugs, glitches, perf fixes. 1 last pass thru audio. 12-15 hr days. This is gaming. Hard work. Lunch, dinner working. U Do it cause ya luv it."
Schofield then wrote an apology to his previous tweet, saying that he values "passion and creativity, not long hours," and that it was wrong how he wrote out his previous comment.
"Anyone who knows me knows how passionate I am about the people I work with," Schofield wrote. "Earlier I tweeted how proud I was of the effort the hours the team was putting in. That was wrong. We value passion and creativity, not long hours. I'm sorry to the team for coming across like this."
Bloomberg reported Jason Schreier, who has reported on crunch issues in the past, responded to Schofield's original tweet with a bit of context.
"This, from a studio head, is crunch culture defined," Schreier wrote. "Of course nobody is 'forced' to work insane hours. But imagine the reduced bonuses and lack of promotion opportunities if you don't? 'You do it because you love it.' Weaponized passion. This is why people burn out of gaming."
Crunch at studios in the games industry and beyond has been given the spotlight in recent years as reports have come out about unhealthy working conditions for those building the entertainment we love. Some examples include Metroid Prime, Destiny, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As it stands, Striking Distance Studios is set to release The Callisto Protocol on December 2, 2022.

Viral Nicole Kidman AMC Ad Is Getting a Sequel
Nicole Kidman is returning to the movie theaters… again.
As confirmed to Vanity Fair, there will be a sequel to the viral AMC ad starring Kidman that aired as theaters began re-opening to the public after being shutdown in the early years of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I got a text from the chairman of AMC about a month ago asking me if I would write the next one, and of course the answer to that is ‘yes,’” said Billy Ray, the screenwriter who wrote the original AMC ad. In fact, Ray says the sequel ad is “already written.”
At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, public spaces like restaurants and movie theaters were closed to prevent exposure and spread. And while these spaces gradually re-opened, movie theaters were severely hit financially.
To get people back into movie theater seats, AMC enlisted the help of Academy Award winning actress Nicole Kidman who starred in a viral ad promoting the magic of movie theaters. AMC, specifically, but the message could be considered universal.
In this ad, Kidman is shown walking into an (empty) AMC theater to watch a film (by herself) while espousing the romance and magic of the cinema.
What will the sequel entail? Perhaps Kidman will have to fight a loud theater-goer who is on their cellphone? The sky’s the limit.
While the theaters are still recovering from the pandemic, there have been bright spots. Top Gun Maverick single-handedly made a boatload of money and it only recently became available for home viewing. You can read our Top Gun Maverick review here.

Fortnite Built Destiny’s Javelin-4 Using Only Assets From the Game
From Spider-Man swinging across the map to players using Dragon Ball Z's famous Kamehameha attack, Fortnite's collaborations have only gotten more elaborate over the years. Witness Fortnite's recent collaboration with Destiny, which includes a full-blow recreation of the famous Javelin-4 map from the game's Crucible mode.
In a brand-new interview that you can see above, IGN was given a tour of Fortnite's version of the Javelin-4 map, which was meticulously recreated within the Fortnite’s Creative toolset. According to Bungie lead concept artist Dima Goryainov, the map was built entirely with existing assets from Fortnite.
"The creation of Javelin-4 was a collaborative process between Bungie and Team PWR. Bungie provided visual guidance, while Team PWR reconstructed the entire map using Fortnite’s Creative Toolset. They did an amazing job in finding creative ways to use existing assets in order to closely recreate this iconic map," Goryainov explains. "Since no new assets could be built, there were some visual changes to the map in areas where Team PWR had to use the closest pieces they could find. Even though everything was created using existing models, the overall look and feel was captured incredibly well."
The result is a remarkably faithful adaptation of the original map. The collaboration also goes so far as to include Destiny's three iconic character classes — Titan, Warlock, and Hunter — and familiar weapons and abilities from the game.
Destiny's collaborations with Fortnite and Fall Guys were first announced on August 23, where they were revealed alongside the new Lightfall expansion. Fortnite's Drift, Black Knight, and Oblivion skins were repurposed in Destiny as new Guardians, while Destiny 2's brought over Commander Zavala, Ikora Rey, and Exo Stranger. The cross-pollination is notable because Fortnite almost never goes the other way.
As for Destiny, it's a new frontier for Bungie's now-classic service game as it celebrates its fifth anniversary.
"Our goal is always to create exciting visuals that enable our players to express themselves through their Guardians, and we are always looking for new ways to support that objective," says Bungie art lead Josh Deeb. "One way is by celebrating these beloved characters by reimagining their iconic looks through the visual lens of Destiny. It is an exciting challenge for our artists to create ornaments that capture the essence of the skin or character, but also feel authentic to our players and world."
The collaboration is available to play in Fortnite right now.

New to Prime Video in September 2022: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Goodnight Mommy, and More
Middle-earth fans, rejoice! For, September has arrived and will bring with it the long-awaited arrival of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Set thousands of years before the events of Frodo and the fellowship of the ring, this new series will tell a new story featuring new faces and familiar ones, like Galadriel and Elrond.
If that isn't enough Middle-earth for you, Prime Video subscribers will also be able to stream all the films in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit trilogy if they find the wait between episodes of The Rings of Power too much to bear.
September will also see the arrival of Goodnight Mommy, a film starring Naomi Watts that follows twin brothers who arrive home and find their mother with surgical bandages on her face and her demeanor altered. What makes matters worse is that they start to believe this may not actually be their mother.
Alongside another Amazon Originals in My Best Friend's Exorcism, fans of high school football will be happy to know that all the seasons of Friday Night Lights will be available to stream at the beginning of the month. In addition, subscribers will be treated to Dog, He Got Game, and the return of Thursday Night Football.
