Kevin Feige Calls Doctor Strange ‘Anchor’ of the MCU
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has called Doctor Strange the "anchor of the Marvel Cinematic Universe" in a speech honouring Benedict Cumberbatch's achievements.
Avengers: Endgame changed everything. The Avengers may have defeated Thanos, but we also saw the fall of some of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes – the death of Iron Man, Black Widow, and even the retirement of Captain America.
Of course, that leads to the question of who will lead the MCU in Endgame's wake. During a ceremony recognizing Benedict Cumberbatch’s addition to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Marvel boss Kevin Feige hinted that it could all be down to Doctor Strange.
“Benedict has turned this character into an icon, appearing in a historic three of the top six films of all time,” Feige said (via Variety). “It's been quite a journey: I remember our very first meeting was set up as a general, and we wanted to pitch him this great character – and before we could, he said, 'So tell me about Doctor Strange,' because you knew. Because somewhere you knew what this could be."
And you’ve always seen the tremendous potential in this character. Because of that, you’ve become the anchor of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the only actor capable of guiding us through the madness of the Multiverse.”
Of course, Doctor Strange is no stranger to the Avengers in the original comic books. He’s led the Avengers to victory at various points throughout history, with an ever-changing lineup that is now reflected in the MCU.
Doctor Strange has appeared in not only team-up movies and his own solo films, but has appeared in other MCU characters' outings, including Thor: Ragnarok and his recent pivotal appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Given the MCU's multiverse is now a running theme in multiple movies and TV shows – including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – it looks as though he’s going to be heavily involved in the MCU going forward, perhaps moreso than any other hero.
After all, by cracking open the multiverse, he’s opened up numerous possibilities, including the appearance of classic X-Men characters, not to mention a mysterious new villain. Feige has previously called Endgame the 'final' Avengers movie, but we wouldn't be surprised to see Strange leading a new team of some kind in future.

GTA Trilogy Gets Its First Patch in Almost 3 Months
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy has gotten its first patch in nearly three months, which seeks to improve the three games' overall stability and visuals.
The trilogy launched back in November 2021 with myriad performance issues but developer Rockstar has been quiet on it since December 3, when it released its previous 1.03 update.
The latest 1.04 patch, now available on all platforms and affecting all three GTA games in the collection, will also fix an issue where players couldn't retry a mission from the latest checkpoint, and fixes certain collision issues.
Rockstar appears to have made good use of the three month wait as the patch notes feature more than 120 separate, detailed updates to GTA: The Trilogy.
In Grand Theft Auto III there are fixes to, for example, misplaced textures and text on the Chinatown market arches, Claude not looking over his shoulder when using the rear facing camera, and an issue with the 'K-JAH Radio' icon.
In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Rockstar has improved windows on the Moist Palms Hotel, fixed an issue that resulted in BJ appearing incorrectly during the cutscene after purchasing Sunshine Autos, and improved the collision near the parking lot outside the Print Works.
San Andreas received updates that improved the High Fade haircut, audio during the mission “Sweet's Girl”, and the UI on the driving school TV.
The Definitive Edition of GTA Trilogy arrived in November last year, comprising GTA 3, GTA: Vice City, and GTA: San Andeas – but it had a very rough launch. Rockstar has since provided multiple patches aiming to clean up the new versions of the classic games inside, and even offered PC players free games as recompense. In our original 5/10 review, IGN said GTA: The Trilogy "is defective, disappointing, and surprisingly disrespectful to three classic games and their many legions of fans."
The collection appears to have sold very well despite the problems, and Strauss Zelnick – CEO of Rockstar parent company Take-Two – has since called those issues a 'glitch' that was 'resolved'.

Military Combat Simulator Dev Asks People Not to Use Game to Create Fake Ukraine War Footage
Editor's Note: The war in Ukraine is an ongoing, painful and emotive topic. IGN urges community members to be respectful when engaging in conversation around this subject and does not endorse harassment of any kind.
Eagle Dynamics, the developer behind military combat simulator DCS World, has asked people not to present gameplay as footage from the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Last week, we reported on footage from video games being falsely presented as footage from Ukraine. One game involved was DCS World, a highly realistic, free-to-play military combat simulator, which replicates (among other things) real-life fighter jets and regions of the world – including portions of Russia and the Crimea.
In a notable example, footage from DCS: World was spreading across social media, purporting to show a Ukrainian fighter pilot shooting down a Russian plane, before fans of the game noted the truth behind the clip. Twitter has since added contextual info to posts inluding the clip.
Clips such as the above have now caused DCS World developer Eagle Dynamics to issue a statement on the DCS World Discord and Eagle Dynamics Twitter account, acknowledging the harm caused by misinformation, and begging readers "to be sensible and avoid using DCS to create videos of this nature."
The developer also thanked fans for flagging misinformation involving DCS World, saying, "Fake news of this nature is too serious to be left alone and needs to be called out by those of you who know what to look for."
You can read the full statement below:
Alongside Eagle Dynamics, Arma 3 developer Bohemia Interactive has also acknowledged that footage from its military game has been used as misinformation, and said it was helping media to fact-check videos:
Dear Arma Community!
— Arma 3 (@Arma3official) February 25, 2022
Beware that lately quite a few videos from heavily modded Arma games surfaced tagged as videos depicting the current Ukrainian conflict.
We are in touch with the media helping to fact-check such videos.
The invasion of Ukraine has garnered widespread calls for support and aid from the games industry, both inside and outside of Ukraine itself.
A number of humanitarian aid organizations are currently accepting donations and support for their efforts to help Ukrainians impacted by the war. They include:
- Save the Children: On the ground right now providing humanitarian aid to children.
- UNICEF: Providing emergency supplies and safe water to communities, as well as care for children on the ground and who have been separated from families.
- Project HOPE: Sending medical supplies and providing health care for refugees.

‘Missions & Rewards’ Added to Nintendo Switch Online
Nintendo has released a "Missions & Rewards" update for Switch Online that allows players to earn Platinum Points by playing games and more, similar to Xbox's Game Pass Quests system.
The incentive is only available to users with Switch Online memberships and provides tasks such as "play software that supports online play", "back up save data", "play NES", and more.
Users will earn Platinum Points - the same currency used for years on the My Nintendo Store - that allow users to buy certain physical items such as Nintendo themed keychains and posters.
A range of new Switch Online-exclusive icons and backgrounds have been released in the update that are only available through the Platinum Points system, and these will be updated weekly. There will also be timed events with special icons available.
These digital items are fairly easy to come by. Playing one online game a week will net you 30 Platinum Points, and the new icons shown so far only cost 10 points each.
Saving up for the physical rewards will take a little longer, though they're still within reach – a Pokémon Legends: Arceus Cable Holder costs 400 points, for example. By playing an online game, backing up save data, playing the NES software, and playing a Game Trials software, users can earn 200 points per week.
The Missions & Rewards page can be accessed through the console's Nintendo Switch Online app, and users can redeem their points for digital items in the same place or physical items on the My Nintendo Store.
