Gran Turismo 7 New Microtransaction Model Means Some Cars Could Cost $40

Players are questioning how microtransactions in the new Gran Turismo 7 are being handled after it was revealed that Polyphony Digital has done away with direct car purchases in favor of purchasing credits. This has made it so that some cars could cost up to $40.

In the last Gran Turismo game — Gran Turismo Sport — individual cars could be purchased at a set price. In Gran Turismo 7, however, players can only acquire in-game currency called Credits which range from $2.49 for 100,000 credits or $20 for 2,000,000 credits.

While credits can be earned in-game through grinding, this new microtransaction system has resulted in some changes within the marketplace since the last Gran Turismo game. According to VGC, cars that would cost $5 in Gran Turismo Sport, are almost $40, as it costs 3,000,000 credits or purchasing the 2,000,000 credits option twice.

Gran Turismo 7’s credit costs are likely meant to encourage players to grind for their dream cars and earn credits through in-game challenges. But the loss of one-off car purchases still stings. Plus, given some Legendary cars are 3,000,000 credits, not having the option to purchase only the required amount also leaves a bitter aftertaste.

However, players with the time to drive towards their dream car on their own will be happy to know there’s an amazing game worth the grind. IGN’s Grand Turismo 7 review praised the latest Polyphony Digital sim as one of the best in the series “enhanced by the PS5’s gorgeous graphics[.]”

Activision Blizzard Sued By Family Of Employee Who Died By Suicide

The family of an Activision Blizzard employee who died by suicide in 2017 is suing the company for wrongful death. The complaint from Janet and Paul Moynihan claims that sexual harassment at the company was a significant factor in the death of their daughter Kerri Moynihan, a 32-year old finance manager at Activision Blizzard who was found dead at an Activision Blizzard company retreat in 2017.

In a report from The Washington Post, Moynihan's parents filed the wrongful death lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court. According to the report, Moynihan is the employee referenced in the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) lawsuit that was filed back in July last year.

The lawsuit calls Activision Blizzard liable for preventing the harassment Moynihan faced while working for the company including at a holiday party where explicit photos were passed around among employees. Activision Blizzard previously called the details in the DFEH lawsuit "distorted, and in many cases false." The wrongful death lawsuit also claims that Moynihan's direct manager, who has since departed Blizzard, lied to investigators from the Anaheim Police Department about his relationship with her.

A spokesperson from Activision Blizzard issued a statement to IGN saying the company is “deeply saddened by the tragic death of Ms. Moynihan, who was a valued member of the company. We will address the complaint through the legal process as appropriate, and out of respect for the family we have no further comment at this time.”

The DFEH lawsuit kicked off a firestorm at the company previously known for games like Call of Duty and World of Warcraft. Since the lawsuit was made public, employees have staged walkouts in protest and many have called on CEO Bobby Kotick to resign. Other executives like Blizzard President J. Allen Brack have also left. Amid the turmoil, Xbox announced it will acquired Activision Blizzard and Kotick is not expected to remain at the company once the deal is closed.

If you are having suicidal thoughts, the National Suicide Prevention Hotline in the U.S. is available 24 hours a day at 1-800-273-8255. A list of international suicide hotlines can be found here.

Destiny 2: Where Is Xur Today? Location and Exotic Items for March 4

The shady pasta-faced trader, Xûr, is now live in Destiny 2 for the weekend until next week's reset. If you're looking to get your some shiny new Exotic armor or weapons for your Guardian, look no further.

Each week, Xûr has a random assortment of Exotic armor, one for each Guardian class, as well as a random Exotic Weapon and an Exotic Engram available for purchase. In addition to his Exotic wares, he's got a random collection of Legendary weapons and armor to deck out your Guardians.

We've rounded up all the info on Xûr for the week including where to find Xûr, which Exotic weapons and armor are available, as well as which Legendary weapons you should pick up, either for PvE or PvP.

Where Is Xûr Today?

Xûr can be found at The Tower on March 4 through March 8. To reach him, travel to the landing point at The Courtyard and make your way to the Hangar. You'll find ol' snake-face chilling near the stairs at the back of the Hangar area.

What's Xûr Selling Today?

Xûr has had a weird couple of weeks lately. His armor this week has all the same stat roll that you can pull out of your collections. If you're looking for a good weapon to bring into the new playground of The Witch Queen's Throne World, there are some decent options, but nothing stellar.

Exotic Engram

Merciless - Exotic Fusion Rifle

Sealed Ahamkara Grasps - Exotic Hunter Gauntlets

  • 7 Mobility
  • 11 Resilience
  • 6 Recovery
  • 6 Discipline
  • 2 Intellect
  • 16 Strength
  • Total: 48

One-Eyed Mask - Exotic Titan Helmet

  • 6 Mobility
  • 7 Resilience
  • 13 Recovery
  • 6 Discipline
  • 6 Intellect
  • 10 Strength
  • Total: 48

Getaway Artist - Exotic Warlock Gauntlets

  • 6 Mobility
  • 7 Resilience
  • 11 Recovery
  • 12 Discipline
  • 6 Intellect
  • 6 Strength
  • Total: 48

Exotic Weapons

Starting with the release of The Witch Queen, Xur also now offers a roll of Hawkmoon and Dead Man's Tale each week.

Hawkmoon - Exotic Hand Cannon

  • Paracausal Shot
  • Polygonal Rifling
  • Alloy Magazine
  • Quickdraw
  • Combat Grip

Dead Man's Tale - Exotic Scout Rifle

  • Cranial Spike
  • Full Bore
  • Steady Rounds
  • Moving Target
  • Short-Action Stock

Sunshot is a great option due to its ability to turn enemies into explosive balls of fire and deal mad damage to minor enemies. Dead Man's Tale is actually the only worthwhile roll in all of Xur's inventory this week. If you don't have this weapon, pick it up. If you do have it, consider picking this roll up anyway, since the Vorpal Weapon perk works particularly well with this high-damage scout.

Aside from that though, Xûr's Exotic armor is absolutely terrible this week due to incredibly low stat rolls. Please do not waste your precious Legendary Shards on this stuff unless you need it for your collection.

Legendary Weapons

Truthteller - Grenade Launcher

  • Volatile Launch/Hard Launch
  • Spike Grenades/Implosion Rounds
  • Field Prep
  • Quickdraw
  • Reload Speed Masterwork

Negative Space - Sword

  • Honed Edge/Tempered Edge
  • Enduring Guard/Swordmaster's Guard
  • Tireless Blade
  • Whirlwind Blade
  • Impact Masterwork

Royal Chase - Scout Rifle

  • Extended Barrel/Smallbore
  • Appended Mag/Steady Rounds
  • Grave Robber
  • Multikill Clip
  • Range Masterwork

Friction Fire - Submachine Gun

  • Arrowhead Brake/Smallbore
  • Tactical Mag/Alloy Magazine
  • Field Prep
  • Sympathetic Arsenal
  • Reload Speed Masterwork

Frozen Orbit - Sniper Rifle

  • Arrowhead Brake/Corkscrew Rifling
  • Tactical Mag/Extended Mag
  • No Distractions
  • Quickdraw
  • Handling Masterwork

Cartesian Coordinate - Fusion Rifle

  • Hitmark IS/Red Dot 2 MOA
  • Ionized Battery/Liquid Coils
  • Lead From Gold
  • Swashbuckler
  • Charge Time Masterwork

Vulpecula - Hand Cannon

  • Corkscrew Rifling/Polygonal Rifling
  • Accurized Rounds/Flared Magwell
  • Encore
  • Multikill Clip
  • Reload Speed Masterwork

To be honest, the Legendary Weapons this week aren't quite as legendary as one would hope -- definitely no God rolls. But a few standouts like the Frozen Orbit roll could be useful for PvP where the ability to switch weapons quickly and ADS fast are important. Aside from that, the sword's got a good set of perks for dealing DPS and the submachine gun could be useful if you're into Field Prep. Nothing you're really missing out on if you wanted to skip Xûr altogether this week, though.

Warlock Legendary Armor

For Warlocks, Xûr is selling the Anti-Extinction set which includes:

Anti-Extinction Gauntlets

  • 10 Mobility
  • 2 Resilience
  • 10 Recovery
  • 2 Discipline
  • 2 Intellect
  • 22 Strength
  • Total: 48

Anti-Extinction Chest Armor

  • 10 Mobility
  • 2 Resilience
  • 10 Recovery
  • 2 Discipline
  • 2 Intellect
  • 22 Strength
  • Total: 48

Anti-Extinction Helmet

  • 10 Mobility
  • 2 Resilience
  • 10 Recovery
  • 2 Discipline
  • 2 Intellect
  • 22 Strength
  • Total: 48

Anti-Extinction Leg Armor

  • 10 Mobility
  • 2 Resilience
  • 10 Recovery
  • 2 Discipline
  • 2 Intellect
  • 22 Strength
  • Total: 48

Anti-Extinction Bond

Unless for some reason you really want low-stat armor that's bizarrely focused on a Strength-only build, it's unlikely the Warlock armor this week will do much for you.

Titan Legendary Armor

For Titans, Xûr is selling the Anti-Extinction set which includes:

Anti-Extinction Gauntlets

  • 10 Mobility
  • 2 Resilience
  • 10 Recovery
  • 2 Discipline
  • 2 Intellect
  • 22 Strength
  • Total: 48

Anti-Extinction Chest Armor

  • 10 Mobility
  • 2 Resilience
  • 10 Recovery
  • 2 Discipline
  • 2 Intellect
  • 22 Strength
  • Total: 48

Anti-Extinction Helmet

  • 10 Mobility
  • 2 Resilience
  • 10 Recovery
  • 2 Discipline
  • 2 Intellect
  • 22 Strength
  • Total: 48

Anti-Extinction Leg Armor

  • 10 Mobility
  • 2 Resilience
  • 10 Recovery
  • 2 Discipline
  • 2 Intellect
  • 22 Strength
  • Total: 48

Anti-Extinction Mark

Again, the Titan armor is all low-stat and Strength focused. If you like punching (and what Titan doesn't?), then this could perhaps be of use to you in a somewhat bizarre set of circumstances but it's generally so low-stat that you're unlikely to want to us it.

Hunter Legendary Armor

For Hunters, Xûr is selling the Anti-Extinction set which includes:

Anti-Extinction Gauntlets

  • 10 Mobility
  • 2 Resilience
  • 10 Recovery
  • 2 Discipline
  • 2 Intellect
  • 22 Strength
  • Total: 48

Anti-Extinction Chest Armor

  • 10 Mobility
  • 2 Resilience
  • 10 Recovery
  • 2 Discipline
  • 2 Intellect
  • 22 Strength
  • Total: 48

Anti-Extinction Helmet

  • 10 Mobility
  • 2 Resilience
  • 10 Recovery
  • 2 Discipline
  • 2 Intellect
  • 22 Strength
  • Total: 48

Anti-Extinction Leg Armor

  • 10 Mobility
  • 2 Resilience
  • 10 Recovery
  • 2 Discipline
  • 2 Intellect
  • 22 Strength
  • Total: 48

Anti-Extinction Cloak

Please don't buy this armor.

That's a wrap on Xûr for this week, Guardians! Hope you're all enjoying your adventures in the Witch Queen's throne world and are ready for the Contest Mode raid tomorrow morning! For more on Destiny, check out some of the new weapons and gear you can find in The Witch Queen and read about how Sony's purchase of Bungie fits into its larger plans.

The Settlers Reboot Delayed Indefinitely After Closed Beta

Ubisoft's The Settlers has been delayed indefinitely just two weeks before it was intended to launch.

The eighth entry in the real-time strategy series, and the first since 2010, was due to be released on March 17 after years in development. But Ubisoft announced on its official Twitter page (below) today that the reboot had been delayed.

Ubisoft Düsseldorf, the studio behind The Settlers, said it had decided in response to feedback obtained from January's closed beta.

"As we went through this feedback, it became clear to our team that the quality wasn’t yet in line with the team’s vision," the developers write. "Therefore, we took the decision to postpone the launch of the game to a later date."

"The additional time will be used to further improve the game and push quality as our main priority for all our players."

The Settlers was first announced in August 2018 but soon went quiet, only rearing its head again once or twice in the last three and a half years.

The Snowdrop Engine developed game aims to reboot the nearly three-decade-old franchise and features a story-driven campaign, single and multiplayer modes for up to eight players, and three playable factions.

New World’s Russian Localization Halted by Amazon Games

Editor's Note: The war in Ukraine is an ongoing, painful and emotive topic. IGN urges community members to be respectful when engaging in conversation around this subject and does not endorse harassment of any kind.

Amazon Games has halted New World's Russian localization amid the ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

A Russian version of the open-world MMO was being planned at Amazon Games but vice president Christoph Hartmann told TechRadar that its production was put on hold.

"We were looking into localizing New World for Russia, and we stopped that", Hartmann says with the publisher later confirming it was done in response to the war. Amazon Games joins 11 Bit Studios, GOG, Raw Fury, Bungie, Beetlewing, Wargaming, and other developers, publishers, and gaming influencers in showing support for Ukraine.

Additionally, Microsoft has suspended Xbox hardware and software sales in Russia, answering a call from Ukraine's deputy prime minister Mykhailo Fedorov asking it and PlayStation to do so, and Apple has also stopped selling its products in the country.

Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red has also halted its game sales in Russia and Belarus and last week donated 1 million Polish złoty (approximately $243,000) to PAH, a Polish humanitarian charity working in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, FIFA 22 and NHL 22 removed their Russian teams, Doom II's co-creator built a new level in the game to raise funds, and Kyiv-based STALKER 2 developer GSC Game World shared a harrowing video showing how the war has affected its employees.

In the film world, Disney, Sony Pictures, Paramount, and Warner Bros. have all pulled upcoming movies from release in Russia including The Batman, Sonic 2, and more.

Disney+ to Introduce a Cheaper Subscription… But It Includes Ads

Disney+ is getting a cheaper subscription option that will offer the same content, but with ads included.

Users can therefore choose between the more expensive $7.99 USD subscription or this cheaper version when it arrives in the U.S. in late 2022.

The service will expand internationally in 2023, and while Disney hasn't yet announced a price point, it made the move to let more people access its content and because companies were eager to advertise with them.

Rita Ferro, president of advertising, Disney media, and entertainment distribution, said: "Since its launch, advertisers have been clamouring for the opportunity to be part of Disney+ and not just because there’s a growing demand for more streaming inventory.

"Disney+ with advertising will offer marketers the most premium environment in streaming with our most beloved brands, Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel and National Geographic. I can’t wait to share more with advertisers at the upfront."

Kareem Daniel, chairman of Disney media and entertainment distribution, added: "Expanding access to Disney+ to a broader audience at a lower price point is a win for everyone - consumers, advertisers, and our storytellers.

"Advertisers will be able to reach a wider audience, and our storytellers will be able to share their incredible work with more fans and families."

Marvel's Moon Knight is arriving on Disney+ in March, alongside Pixar's Turning Red and Steven Spielberg's West Side Story.

As the home of all Marvel and Star Wars content, Disney+ will also be seeing Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, and the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV Series later in 2022.

For something to watch now, Ryan Reynolds' Free Guy was added to the service last month, and the first season of The Book of Boba Fett wrapped up too.

Cowboy Bebop: John Cho Says the Live-Action Series’ Cancellation Was ‘Shocking’

Cowboy Bebop star John Cho has responded to what he sees as the show’s “shocking” cancellation.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 49-year-old actor explained why he was so devastated when Cowboy Bebop was canceled after just one season.

“It was just a huge event in my life, and it was suddenly over,” he said. “It was very shocking, and I was bummed.”

Less than a month after the show debuted on Netflix, the online streamer canceled the live-action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop despite its cliff-hanger ending.

“I put a lot of my life into it,” added Cho. “I’d gotten injured shooting that show and so I took a year off because of the surgery and devoted myself to rehab, came back, and finished the show. It was this huge mountain for me to climb, healing from that injury. I felt good about myself as a result. We also shot the show in New Zealand, so my family moved there."

Based on the classic anime series, Cowboy Bebop followed a trio of bounty hunters aboard their spaceship, Bebop. It mashes up noir, crime, comedy, and more, with a unique tone and solid performances from the cast. But that just wasn’t enough to save the show – especially with eyebrow-raising lines that caused a social media storm.

Despite mixed reviews, IGN enjoyed Season One of the live-action show: “Cowboy Bebop is an unapologetic adaptation of the anime classic and manages to bring everything fans love about the original to life.”

Meanwhile, Netflix is doubling down on its anime adaptations, with several upcoming live-action shows in the works, including One Piece, YuYu Hakusho, and even a live-action Gundam movie.

Cowboy Bebop starred John Cho Spike Spiegel, Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black, and Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine alongside Elena Satine, Alex Hassle, and Ann Truong. Christopher L. Yost created the show based on the popular anime series.

Battlefield 2042 is Currently Less Popular than Battlefield 1, 4, and 5 on Steam

Battlefield 2042 currently has fewer concurrent players on Steam than Battlefield 1, 4, or 5.

Per SteamDB data, Battlefield 2042 has seen a maximum of just 2,090 players online in the last 24 hours, compared to 2,195 in Battlefield 4, 7,498 in Battlefield 1, and 21,709 in Battlefield 5. Battlefield 4 arrived in 2013, and it's a marker of how troubled the latest game in the series has been that a much older version is seeing more activity.

The popularity of Battlefield 2042 on Steam has gradually declined since it was released in November last year and currently sits at less than 2% of its original peak player-base of 105,397, even seeing decline through a free weekend in December.

The game has had a fairly turbulent development period both before and after its launch, first realised in September when its release date was pushed back a month. Several issues still materialised in Battlefield 2042's early launch however and continued when the game officially released.

It quickly became one of Steam's worst-reviewed games despite being fairly popular, with players noting that several promised features were missing and voicing their grievances on the subreddit that moderators threatened to shut down.

Battlefield's 2042's Season One (essentially its Battle Pass) was delayed in February to Summer 2022 as developer DICE instead chose to focus on more pressing issues like adding a scoreboard to online matches, but this update was also delayed a few days later.

Publisher EA admitted around the same time that Battlefield 2042 did not meet expectations, and soon after a petition asking for refunds started online that more than 220,000 players have now signed.

DICE announced at the beginning of March that it was aware of several issues within its map design and said it understood why players were calling the game a "walking simulator". The maps will be fixed one by one starting with Kaleidoscope but not until summer at the earliest.
