ActRaiser, the classic Super NES god game, returns in ActRaiser Renaissance, an HD remaster that launches today on Nintendo Switch.

Announced during the September Nintendo Direct, ActRaiser Renaissance updates the classic game with HD visuals, new stages and boss battles, and rearranged music.

In ActRaiser, gameplay consists of two phases: a side-scrolling action platformer where you fight monsters with swordsmanship and magic, and a city-building phase where you must manage development of your burgeoning society. As you progress through the city-builder, you level up, increasing your powers in both modes.

A "Squid Researcher" from Nintendo explained that the Turf War mode remains unchanged at its core, but that new main and special weapons have been introduced – that includes a rolling ball-like mech and a character seemingly turning into ink and whipping themselves through the air with a grapple arm.

Some simple info about the plot of the story mode was shared as well, which will focus on the reappearance of mammals in the Splatoon world, although further details weren't provided at this time.

Splatoon 3 was announced back in February for a 2022 Switch release. Back then, we got a look at Squid Kid customization as well as a companion creature, a big desert metropolis hub city, and a brief look at its ink-splattering competitive gameplay. We're big fans of Splatoon around here, having given Splatoon 1 and 2 an 8.6 and an 8.3 respectively, and named the latter one of the best games on the Nintendo Switch.

Along with Pratt, the film's voice cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong. Additionally, Kevin Michael Richardson will voice Kamek, Fred Armisen will voice Cranky Kong, and Sebastian Maniscalco will voice Foreman Spike.

Longtime Mario voice actor Charles Martinet will also have a series of featured cameos in the movie.

The casting announcement came during today's Nintendo Direct, with the company pulling back the curtain for the first time on Universal’s upcoming adaptation of the long-running video game series.

Super Mario Bros. is scheduled to hit theaters on December 21, 2022. The project was originally announced in 2018, with both Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri and Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto attached as producers.

Super Mario was previously adapted as a 1993 live-action feature starring Bob Hoskins as Mario and John Leguizamo as Luigi. While the film was both a critical and commercial failure at the time, it has since garnered a cult following as a unique adaptation and '90s artifact. A fanmade extended cut titled "The Morton Jankel Cut" was was shared online in June.

In May, it was reported that Nintendo is also exploring animation projects beyond Super Mario, looking to adapt other properties in its catalog.
