Mayim Bialik to Temporarily Host Jeopardy Until New Host Is Found

Mayim Bialik will be the first guest host of syndicated episodes of Jeopardy in the wake of Mike Richards' departure from the popular quiz show.

According to Collider, the Big Bang Theory alum will temporarily cover weeknight hosting duties on Jeopardy, fronting 15 episodes of the new season while the quiz show searches for a new host to take to the podium. Bialik was originally tapped to host the show's primetime specials and spin-offs rather than the syndicated hosting position due to her busy schedule.

Bialik serves as an executive producer and stars in the title role of the Fox sitcom Call Me Kat, which was renewed for a second season earlier this year. However, Collider notes that "Bialik is currently on hiatus from Call Me Kat," meaning that her schedule has opened up just enough to allow her to take the first guest spot on Jeopardy's upcoming 38th season.

It was announced last week that Richards would be stepping down as the new host of Jeopardy, just one day after the Anti-Defamation League called for an investigation following a report by The Ringer that Richards had allegedly made offensive and sexist comments during his time on the Randumb Show podcast in 2013 and 2014.

Sony's search for a long-term host of Jeopardy has been turbulent ever since show host Alex Trebek passed away in November 2020. The series has run with several guest stars over the past year, including the likes of Aaron Rodgers, Joe Buck, and fan-favorite LeVar Burton. Viewers should expect to see more guest hosts on the show until a full-time host is found.

Production resumes on Jeopardy this week, with the upcoming 38th season of the classic quiz show expected to begin airing on September 13.

EA Is Making Five Accessibility Technology Patents Freely Available to Anyone

EA is making its five accessibility-related technology patents — including the ping system from Apex Legends — freely available for use by anyone, even its competitors.

In an announcement today, the publisher said it was making a "Patents Pledge," promising to make five of its patents available for free and without repercussion to anyone who wishes to use them indefinitely, as well as future accessible technologies it develops.

Effectively, this means any of these five patents can be used by other developers, competitors, or others without the worry of being sued by EA.

The most notable of the five patents EA is making available is the ping system from Apex Legends, which was lauded at the game's launch for allowing players to communicate easily with one another in-game. The system was praised for making Apex more accessible for players with hearing, speaking, or cognitive disabilities.

Three other patents are related to vision accessibility and include tech that detects and modifies the colors, brightness, and contrast in a game to improve object visibility. This tech is currently included in the Madden NFL and FIFA franchises.

The fifth patent is not currently being used in any EA games but is related to personalized sound technology to assist players with hearing issues. With it, players can create or modify music based on their hearing preferences.

In addition to these, EA is open-sourcing code for colorblindness, brightness, and contrast accessibility in digital content. This code is being made available on GitHub.

"At Electronic Arts, our mission is to inspire the world to play," said Chris Bruzzo, EA EVP of positive play, commercial, and marketing. "We can only make that a reality if our video games are accessible to all players. Our accessibility team has long been committed to breaking down barriers within our video games, but we realize that to drive meaningful change, we need to work together as an industry to do better for our players.

“We hope developers will make the most of these patents and encourage those who have the resources, innovation, and creativity to do as we have by making their own pledges that put accessibility first. We welcome collaboration with others on how we move the industry forward together.”

The games industry has been undergoing a growing push for more accessible technology, features, games, and hardware in recent years, notably with Xbox's unveiling of its Adaptive Controller several years ago and ongoing pushes for accessibility with its hardware and software on its platforms since. More recently, disabled gamers initiative AbleGamers raised $1 million for its initiatives to support accessible gaming for everyone.

Spider-Man: No Way Home Teaser Trailer Finally Revealed

The first teaser trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home has finally been revealed, showing Peter Parker, Doctor Strange, and some other familiar faces.

The long-awaited trailer shows some of the fallout following Spider-Man: Far From Home and sees Peter Parker dealing with the whole world knowing he is actually Spider-Man.

The trailer also shows Parker going to see Doctor Strange and Wong in hopes they can help make the world forget his true identity. Despite Wong's warning, Doctor Strange agrees to help Peter, but problems arise and they find themselves dealing with the dangers of the Multiverse. This results in us getting our first look at the return of Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus.

While we don't actually see him, we do get a little laugh from a voice that sounds very much like Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin alongside a green bomb. A spark of electricity seen in the footage could also signify the return of Jamie Foxx's Electro.

What we get no hint of, however, is the return of either Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield, meaning they really won't be returning or it will be a surprise (hopefully!) left for the movie.

This teaser trailer arrives after a low-resolution version of it apparently leaked onto social media platforms. The official Spider-Man: No Way Home Twitter poked a bit of fun at the unfortunate situation, saying that this was the "OFFICIAL HD teaser trailer." They also gave a "shout-out to the real ones who are watching the trailer for the first time right now."

You Need to Say Candyman Five Times to Watch the Final Trailer

With the film's release date only a few days away, Universal Pictures has released the final trailer for Nia DaCosta's upcoming slasher Candyman. However, there's only one way to watch it on the film's official website. To unlock the new trailer on IDareYou.CandymanMovie.com, a viewer must use their computer's microphone and camera to summon Candyman by saying his name out loud five times.

As the trailers for the film would indicate, things usually don't turn out well for those who summon Candyman into their presence. A swarm of bees begins to appear on-screen during the process, growing larger with each progressive iteration. If you don't want to risk the killer appearing behind you, rest assured that the final trailer is composed of footage that has already been revealed.

Candyman is a direct sequel to the 1992 original of the same name. The film follows an artist and his girlfriend who move into a now-gentrified neighborhood that the supernatural killer Candyman once haunted. Once the two are exposed to the grim history of the area, they are drawn into the myth of Candyman as the community is thrown into violence.

Aquaman's Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and WandaVision's Teyonah Parris star in Candyman, while Tony Todd and Vanessa Estelle Williams reprise their roles from the 1992 original. Jordan Peele serves as producer under his Monkeypaw Productions. Director DaCosta is already developing her follow-up to the slasher, as she has been tapped to helm The Marvels, the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel.

Candyman is set to hit theaters this Friday, August 27. For a sneak peek, check out this official clip of the movie.

Apex Legends: Seer’s Passive, Tactical, and Ultimate Abilities Have Been Nerfed

Respawn has pushed out a new Apex Legends update that nerfs the battle royale's newest legend, Seer, after numerous complaints from players.

Seer is the latest legend to join the Apex Legends roster, having been added to the game at the start of Season 10. Many praised his design and abilities (on paper). But when Seer finally went live in the game, players felt like the character's abilities — specifically the Heart Seeker ability that allows him to see and hear the heartbeats of nearby enemies — broke the action of Apex Legends.

The calls for a nerf soon rolled in and now, those calls have been answered.

As you can see in Respawn's tweet above, Seer received a large number of balance changes, especially in regards to his passive, tactical, and ultimate abilities. Heart Seeker, which is Seer's passive ability, now has a longer wait time between sensor spikes, a reduced range, and a reduced field of view.

Seer's tactical ability, Focus of Attention, sees Seer use drones to damage and mark nearby enemies to reveal their location and their remaining health. The drones also interrupt any abilities those enemies might be using. The detonation time of the drones has been increased and now, players marked by the drones will no longer take damage or be flashed.

Furthermore, Seer players will move slower when using Focus of Attention.

Exhibit, which is Seer's ultimate ability, creates what is essentially a dome of drones. The location of anyone in the drome is revealed. Seer players will have to wait even longer now to use this ultimate after today's balance update as the cooldown time has been increased from 90 seconds to 120 seconds.

Basically, Seer is designed to reveal the location of enemies, making it tough to get the jump on him. That's still the case after today's update, but Seer players will now need to be a little more patient when using the legend.

Some are already saying these nerfs aren't enough, but for the most part, players online seem thrilled with the balance changes.

Over on the Apex Legends subreddit, however, players are less thrilled. The main complaint amongst players on the subreddit's main Seer nerf discussion post seems to be that Seer can still interrupt healing amongst enemy players.

Considering that Seer's abilities still interrupt healing, it seems that Respawn deems that potential for interruption essential to the legend's playstyle. Who knows though? Perhaps another nerf will happen that changes that.

For now, check out IGN's five beginner tips and tricks video to prepare for a faceoff against Seer and then read about how Apex Legends cross-progression is a "gnarly problem" that won't be solved until at least 2022. Check out IGN's Season 10 and Seer explainer after that.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey to Get 60 FPS Support on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

Assassin's Creed Odyssey will officially get 60 FPS support on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S through backward compatibility tomorrow, August 24.

Ubisoft shared the news on Twitter, revealing that it will be part of Assassin's Creed Odyssey's Title Update 1.6.0. This is obviously a welcome addition for those with next-gen consoles, especially as there is no proper PS5 or Xbox Series X/S version of 2018's Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

Adding 60 FPS support to older games is becoming a big trend in this PS5 and Xbox Series X/S generation, and Assassin's Creed Odyssey follows such games as Dark Souls 3 and The Last of Us Part 2 in giving fans another reason to jump back in.

In our review of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, we said that its "open-world adventure through ancient Greece is a gorgeous thrill, and the best the series has ever been."

Assassin's Creed games are known for their post-launch support, from bug fixes to expansions to DLC, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla is no different as it recently got its Siege of Paris expansion.

Bringing Assassin's Creed Odyssey to 60 FPS is great for fans who want to jump back in to the story or experience it for the first time and get ready for Assassin's Creed Infinity - a game that represents a huge shift in the franchise as it is reportedly an online platform that could include multiple historical setting and evolve over time in a way seen in Fortnite and Grand Theft Auto Online.

Fallout: London Modder Hired By Bethesda to Design Quests

Fallout: London is a highly-anticipated full-scale mod coming to Fallout 4, and its head writer has now been officially hired by Bethesda to design quests.

Fallout: London aims to turn Fallout 4's Commonwealth into London and it has been in the works for over two years. It was officially unveiled back in June to wide success — its official reveal trailer has garnered over 2.5 million views.

Stephanie Zachariadis was one of the lead writers for the project, but now she's been hired as a new associate quest designer for Bethesda, as reported by RockPaperShotgun.

"Stephanie has been a pillar of support for the team and has helped create a fantastic and interesting main story, and dialogue, that we feel you will really enjoy, and we just know she'll be bringing these talents to the writing boards of [Betheda's Todd Howard] herself," the Fallout: London team said in its announcement. "We expect a bright future for her and we fully give her all of our support."

The team then addressed some questions Fallout: London fans might have after hearing the news. Namely, if everything is ok with the game. The announcement says that because of Zachariadis' outstanding professionalism, the team was able to lay a strong enough support system that Fallout: London "will be more than able to manage for the foreseeable future."

The team also said that the mod's main story is already written and that the new head writer it hires to replace Zachariadis will be aware of that. They’ll instead be tasked with writing the rest of the mod’s remaining dialogue.

For more information about the future of Fallout: London and updates of the mod's progress, check out the official Fallout: London Twitter. Stardew Valley Is Officially an Esport Now

Eric Barone, the creator of Stardew Valley, has officially announced the Stardew Valley Cup — meaning that the famed relaxing farming simulator has now become... an eSport?

The Stardew Valley cup will pit four teams against each other: Sandy's Candies, Pierree's Cherries, Pam's Yams, and Krobus's Crocuses. The four teams will compete against one another in the Cup on September 4 where they will complete a range of tasks to earn points and a shot at almost $40,000.

The competition is being run in coordination with Unsurpassable Z, a YouTuber known for creating content about the game. In a video on YouTube, Unsurpassable Z explained that they had come up with a list of a hundred different challenges that the teams would have to complete in the Cup. Each completed challenge is worth a varying number of points which Unsurpassable Z has calculated and assigned it based upon the difficulty. Each of the teams is set to compete compete simultaneously to rack up as many points as possible across the duration of the tournament.

Challenges in the Stardew Valley Cup range from completing tasks in the community center to reaching floor 100 in the Skull Cavern. Each of the teams has been granted a two-week period to view the challenge list and prepare their strategies accordingly. In addition to the task list already provided, Unsurpassable Z has said that there will be an additional five challenges added to the competition that teams won't know about in advance. With approximately $40,000 on the line, we imagine that the competitors will be revising possible contingency plans for the unknown tasks across the coming weeks.

With the immense popularity of the game, it's perhaps not surprising to see an official competitive tournament announced for Stardew Valley. Having been previously ported to Switch, mobile, and consoles, Stardew Valley will make its debut on Xbox Pass later this year whilst a Stardew Valley board game was released earlier this year.

The Office Showrunner Needs To Be on Board for Reboot To Happen, Hints NBCUniversal Exec

A reboot of The Office is not actively in the works, but an NBCUniversal executive has suggested the studio is very open to the idea of returning to Dunder Mifflin.

Speaking at the Edinburgh International TV Festival, NBCU content chief Susan Rovner confirmed to Deadline that the studio had not yet ruled out a reboot of the Steve Carrell-fronted sitcom. Rovner initially refused to comment on plans for a reboot, but then revealed an interest in the project, saying, "whenever Greg Daniels wants to do one, we're standing by."

In other words, any potential reboot of The Office would need to go through executive producer Greg Daniels, who shepherded the U.S. adaptation of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's comedy to the small screen. Earlier this year, Daniels told Collider that he "would want to be involved" with any kind of reboot of the show but he was busy with other projects.

Despite ending in 2013 after a successful 9-season run, The Office found a resurgence of popularity when the series joined Netflix's library, where it reportedly became 2020's most-streamed TV series in the United States, with over 57 billion minutes watched ahead of its official departure from the platform on December 31.

NBCUniversal acquired the rights to the show for its streaming service Peacock, where Peacock unveiled a never-before-seen cold open for the show in which John Krasinski's Jim Halpert plays a prank on Rainn Wilson's Dwight, plus 23 extended episodes dubbed The Office: Superfan Episodes featuring longer runtimes and footage that was previously cut.

Peacock has also played host to themed playlists of episode clips geared around Jim's best Dwight pranks, Michael Scott's various words of wisdom and the series' most memorable romantic moments. The streamer also offered a special Office Zen channel, with a continuous stream of office-related ambient noise designed to make the workday go a little bit faster.

NBCUniversal's Peacock service launched in July 2020, though The Office didn't join the platform until January of this year. Now fans can clock in to see Carrell, Krasinski and Wilson, together with co-stars Jenna Fischer, Mindy Kaling, Ed Helms, BJ Novak, Amy Ryan, Craig Robinson, Ellie Kemper and James Spader back together again in the workplace sitcom.
