Shin Megami Tensei 3 Nocturne HD Remaster Capped at 30fps on PC

Despite featuring several visual upgrades, Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturn HD Remaster will reportedly run at a locked 30 frames per second on PC.

In a video posted by RPG Site staff writer Josh Torres, Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturn HD Remaster can be seen running at 30 FPS.

I've touched a bit of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne's upcoming PC port on Steam. Sad to report that it is indeed capped at 30fps. I've taken a small slice of gameplay footage at the very beginning of the game with a Steam FPS counter at the top left (sorry that it's super small). pic.twitter.com/FRGrMJoF89

Shin Megami fans hoping that Nocturn HD Remaster’s visual upgrades would include a 60 FPS frame rate are sure to be disappointed, but it’s not necessarily unexpected. The PS2 RPG was released originally in 2003, and with the HD Remaster also releasing on Nintendo Switch, it could simply come down to budgetary decisions not to pursue a different performance goal for another platform. Some older games (even less old ones like Bloodborne) were also built with 30 FPS locked frame rates, and traditional efforts to mod in a 60 FPS cap hilariously resulted in the game running at double-speed, like a maniacal Benny Hill sketch. It took some serious modding from Lance McDonald to make a game like Bloodborne run at a proper 60 FPS. Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturn HD Remaster is due out on PS4, Switch, PC, and PC via Steam on May 25, 2021. Fans who order the Digital Deluxe Edition will receive the game on May 21, four days earlier than the standard edition.

The HD Remaster includes remastered 3D models and backgrounds, new difficulty settings, the ability to save wherever you want, voiceovers for Japanese and English, an alternate branch with Radio Kuzunoha, and other changes.

Devil May Cry’s Dante will also be available as a paid DLC character. If you found the original game incredibly hard to beat, Atlus is adding a "Merciful Mode" after release. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Joseph Knoop is a writer/producer for IGN.

Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clark Reportedly Joins Marvel’s Secret Invasion Series

Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke is reportedly in final negotiations to join Marvel Studios' Secret Invasion, the original series in production for Disney+. As reported by Variety, Clarke would join a cast said to include Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and Olivia Colman. [caption id="attachment_2502861" align="aligncenter" width="720"]Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen in HBO's Game of Thrones. Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen in HBO's Game of Thrones.[/caption] While Clarke has made her way into that galaxy far, far away as Qi'ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story, this would be her first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Secret Invasion series was announced in 2020 and will see Jackson reprising his role as Nick Fury, Ben Mendelsohn returning as the Skrull Talos, and Kingsley Ben-Adir serving as the main villain. Academy Award-winning actress Olivia Colman was revealed just yesterday, April 19, to also be in talks to join the series. Secret Invasion is a storyline in the Marvel Comics where shape-shifting aliens known as the Skrulls secretly invade Earth and even replace members of the Avengers. In the comics, this led to the dissolution of S.H.I.E.L.D., yet that has already happened in the MCU. Furthermore, the Skrulls we've met so far are friendly, so the show could be taking a different approach. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/04/what-to-expect-from-marvel-in-2021"] Clarke was nominated four times for her portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones and has also appeared in Last Christmas, Me Before You, and Terminator Genisys. Discord to Reportedly Stay Independent, Ends Talks with Microsoft

Discord has reportedly ended its deal talks with Microsoft and has decided to remain independent and focus on a potential initial public offering. As reported by The Wall Street Journal, Discord has halted talks with at least three companies looking to purchase the popular chat platform, including Microsoft who was reportedly prepared to offer a deal worth at least $10 billion USD. While the discussions have ended for now without a deal, sources close to the matter confirm they could always be "rekindled in the future." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-best-games-to-play-on-xbox-series-xs&captions=true"] This potential deal was said to have been ready to close as soon as this month, and that Xbox boss Phil Spencer was part of the discussions as it would clearly have a benefit for the Xbox community. This is yet another deal Microsoft was trying to secure, and follows 2020's discussions surrounding a potential purchase of TikTok following the social media platform's security concerns that brought it under scrutiny from the Trump administration. Discord has been around since 2015 and is a favorite for the gaming community. Its popularity led to the company making $130 million in revenue in 2020 and earning a $7 billion valuation. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/03/09/microsoft-bethesda-heres-to-the-journey-official-announcement-trailer"] While Microsoft may not be purchasing Discord anytime soon, it recently completed its acquisition of ZeniMax Media for $7.5 billion, bringing in such IPs as The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom, and much more. The New iPad Pro Gets an Apple M1 Chip

Apple's M1 processor is finally coming to the iPads thanks to the latest iPad Pro. Apple promises the full fat M1 processor from its laptops and desktops is now in its tablet. With eight CPU cores, Apple promises the new iPad Pro will deliver a 50% faster CPU performance and 40% faster GPU performance over its previous generation tablet running the A12Z Bionic processor. As with other devices running the M1 chip, the iPad Pro will benefit from the 16-core Apple Neural Engine, 16GB of memory integrated into the SoC, and 2x faster storage. What's more, users will be able to configure their iPad Pro with up to 2TB of storage space, just in case you need to work with 20,000 RAW images on the go. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=ipad-pro-2021&captions=true"] The 12.9-inch version of the iPad Pro is also getting an exclusive upgrade exterior with Apple's new Liquid Retina XDR Display. Essentially, it's Apple's version of a Mini LED display that features a peak brightness of 1,600 nits and 1,000nit full screen brightness. The new Mini LED is comprised of 10,000 LEDs, for a whopping total of 2,500 local dimming zones and it should be the most constrasty display ever seen on a tablet. The iPad Pro connectivity suite has also received some major upgrades with both Thunderbolt and USB 4.0 support on its solitary port. According to Apple the upgraded port offers up 4x more bandwidth, up to 40Gbps, making it powerful enough to drive an Apple Pro Display XDR at full 6K resolution. 5G has also been added for those who want the fastest cellular connection on their tablet too. iPad Pro The iPad Pro comes fitted with a new 12MP ultrawide front-facing camera with a 12MP sensor and 120-degree field of view. That might sound too wide for a selife camera, but its meant to be used in tandem with a new Center Stage feature that automatic pans and zooms your video to keep the user in the frame. For a bit more gaming support, the iPad Pro also supports both the PS5 Dualsense and Xbox Core controllers with haptic feedback. The 11-inch iPad Pro will retail for $799 and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro costs $1,099. Preorders on both models open on April 30th and will release in the second half of May. Apple Reveals Colorful New Ultra-Thin iMac

A brand new iMac was revealed during today's Apple event. The line of mac OS desktops feature ultra-thin dimensions, faster CPUs, and most important of all: colors. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=imac-spring-2021&captions=true"] Built from the ground up around Apple's M1 chip, the new desktop is just 11.5mm thick and 50 percent smaller in volume overall than previous iterations. This is all thanks to a consolidated chipset that all fits neatly into the bottom lip of the desktop. It will also include a 24-inch Retina display that outputs at a 4.5K resolution and 11.3 million pixels, as well as a CPU that's 85 percent faster than previous versions, allowing the system to turn on "almost instantly." Big improvements have also been made to the camera, mic and speaker system. The 1080p Facetime HD camera will feature "double the resolution of previous versions." Apple says it will perform exceptionally well in low light, with intelligent exposure and white balance. Meanwhile, an improved mic will ignore background noise and focus on voices, and a six speaker system will support spatial audio with Dolby Atmos. In terms of ports, you get two for Thunderbolt and USB-C each. Finally, it will feature a cooling system that runs under 10 decibels. iMac The new iMac will be available in four colors for $1,299, or in three more colors with additional features at $1,499. It will be available to order on April 30, and will launch in the second half of May. Apple also introduced its new AirTags along with updated versions of Apple TV and the iPad Pro. The M1 chip will feature heavily in both the iMac and the iPad. The 2020 Game Developers Conference was one of last year’s first games industry events to be canceled due to concerns regarding COVID-19, with most companies pulling their participation.

Any game released in 2020, regardless of platform or medium, was eligible for nomination this year, which is why you'll see Kentucky Route Zero (which started in early 2013) nominated for 2020's best narrative.
