Borderlands Exclusive: Haley Bennett Cast in Brand New Role
Haley Bennett (Hillbilly Elegy, The Devil All the Time) will play a new role in Eli Roth's Borderlands movie, IGN has exclusively learned.
Bennett's character is unnamed, but we know they will be "key to the past of Cate Blanchett’s character, Lilith."
In the games, Lilith is a Siren, one of only a handful of people in the Borderlands universe to demonstrate magical abilities – it could be that Bennett's character will be a part of her gaining or harnessing those powers.
[caption id="attachment_2485657" align="alignnone" width="1280"] Haley Bennett (source: Lionsgate)[/caption]
Bennett joins the rest of the star-studded cast, which features the aforementioned Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Tannis, Jack Black as Claptrap, Kevin Hart as an ex-soldier turned mercenary, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, and Florian Munteanu as Tina Tina's protector, Krieg.
Directed by Roth, produced by Avi and Ari Arad (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) and Erik Feig, and with the latest screenplay handled by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl, HBO's The Last of Us), it also has some major Hollywood names behind the camera. To shore up the gaming connection, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, and Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick are executive producers.
The Borderlands movie was announced in February of last year and doesn't yet have a planned release date. Alongside his stars, Roth also wants to cast (and kill) dedicated Borderlands cosplayers. It's one of a host of in-production movie and TV adaptations of games right now.

Nintendo’s Arms Graphic Novel Quietly Cancelled
An Arms graphic novel coming from Nintendo has seemingly been cancelled, if the author's portfolio is anything to go off of.
Ian Flynn wrote an introductory Free Comic Book Day 2018 issue of what was set to become an entire Arms graphic novel, but as reported by Video Games Chronicle his portfolio now says the project was planned but "unfortunately canceled." The free comic book's cover literally reads "Graphic Novel Coming Fall 2018!" and when that Fall came without a trace of an Arms graphic novel, fans began to assume something was up.
Perhaps it had been delayed, but as the years passed by, the general read was that it had probably been canned. Reddit user, Dr-Richie-74, noticed that on Flynn's portfolio page, it says the following under an Arms section: "Wrote the introductory Free Comic Book Day 2018 issue for a planned, but unfortunately canceled, graphic novel series based on the popular Nintendo fighting game franchise, ARMS."
VGC discovered that on March 11, someone on Twitter reached out to Flynn to ask if the Arms graphic novel had been officially cancelled. Flynn said he doesn't think he "can or should say anything in an official capacity."
It seems there's still no official word on whether or not this comic has been cancelled. Considering, though, that it's been nearly three years since the free introductory comic book was released and the author behind it is calling it a cancelled project on his portfolio, it's probably safe to assume this graphic novel is no more. For more Arms, check out our thoughts on the game in IGN's Arms review and then check out the official trailer for Arms fighter, Min Min, in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Watch this video to see how good the producer of Arms is at his own game after that. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Wesley LeBlanc is a freelance news writer and guide maker for IGN. Netflix Reportedly Buys ‘John Wick in Mumbai’ Movie from Dev Patel for $30M
Netflix has reportedly paid around $30 million to acquire most worldwide rights to Dev Patel's directorial debut Monkey Man.
According to Deadline, the movie recently wrapped filming, with the very first footage debuting at last week's virtual European Film Market. After watching the teaser at the event, one source apparently described the revenge-thriller as being like "John Wick in Mumbai." The concept is said to have piqued the interest of bidders on the project, though Netflix ultimately won and now plans to release it in 2022.
In the movie, Patel stars alongside Sharlto Copley (District 9), Sobhita Dhulipala (Psycho Raman), and Sikandar Kher (24: India). He plays "an unlikely hero who emerges from prison to take on a world enmeshed in corporate greed and eroding spiritual values, and seeking revenge from those who took everything from him years before."
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/05/10/john-wick-3-parabellum-review"]
The script is said to draw some inspiration from Hindu mythology about the deity Hanuman who is part human, part monkey. It is written by Patel together with Paul Angunawela and John Collee, who previously collaborated with Patel on the 2018 action-thriller Hotel Mumbai.
"I'm so thrilled to be partnering with Netflix on this adventure," Patel said in a statement. "I hope this will be a fresh addition to the genre at a time in this industry where my story can become our story. Shooting a film during a pandemic has been quite challenging to say the least, but the opportunity to reimagine stories from my childhood and infuse them with my love of action cinema has been an absolute joy. Big love to Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee for championing us from the very beginning and Aaron Gilbert and the team at Bron for giving an unproven filmmaker like myself a voice."
Monkey Man is a co-production between Bron studios, the company behind 2019's Joker starring Joaquin Phoenix, and Thunder Road Pictures, the producers of John Wick, together in association with Creative Wealth.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=netflix-spotlight-march-2021&captions=true"]
The movie is produced by Patel, Thunder Road's Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, Jomon Thomas, Samarth Sahni, Christine Haebler, and Anjay Nagpal. Executive producers include Thunder Road's Jonathan Fuhrman, Bron's Aaron L. Gilbert, Creative Wealth's Jason Cloth, Bron's Steven Thibault, and Natalya Pavchinskaya.
However, before Monkey Man is released, Patel will star in A24's The Green Knight, David Lowery's upcoming movie that tells the story of Sir Gawain, King Arthur's reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight. The medieval fantasy film, which also stars Alicia Vikander and Joel Edgerton, will be released in July 2021.

Godzilla vs. Kong Exclusive IMAX Poster Revealed
IGN has the exclusive reveal for the new IMAX poster for the upcoming film Godzilla vs. Kong. The poster is a stylized take on these two giants facing off against one another.
Godzilla vs. Kong will hit theaters and IMAX on March 31, and to celebrate the jumbo-screened experience, IMAX is sharing this new exclusive poster here on IGN.
[caption id="attachment_2485435" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Source: IMAX[/caption]
The premise of Godzilla vs. Kong is pretty self-explanatory. The king of Skull Island will face off against the king of monsters in this (s)mash-up of two of Warner Bros.' and Legendary Entertainment's biggest monsters.
Godzilla vs. Kong is directed by Adam Wingard, and members of the Godzilla: King of the Monsters cast will return, including Millie Bobby Brown, Brian Tyree Henry, and Kyle Chandler. New cast members include Rebecca Hall as Ilene Andrews, and Lance Reddick and Jessica Henwick in unknown roles.
As previously announced, Warner Bros. is releasing its 2021 slate of movies on HBO Max the same day as theaters, so if IMAX is not an option for you, you'll still be able to check out Godzilla vs. Kong on HBO Max on March 31.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/24/godzilla-vs-kong-official-trailer"]
At IGN Fan Fest, we caught up with director Adam Wingard, who told us that this fight will not end in a draw. "This is the decider," Wingard says, "One wins, and that's it." But who that is will remain a secret until the end of this month.
