The Suicide Squad Red Band Trailer Includes Lots of Violence… and a Kaiju
Warner Bros. has released the first red band trailer for The Suicide Squad, James Gunn's forthcoming DCEU film.
The first trailer for the movie offers fans a closer look at the R-rated blockbuster, which is coming from "the horribly beautiful mind" of Gunn. The action-packed footage shows DC's ragtag group of degenerate delinquents teaming up for a crazy search-and-destroy mission on the island of Corto Maltese after joining forces with the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X.
Check out the red band trailer for The Suicide Squad below:
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/03/26/the-suicide-squad-official-trailer"]
The super-villain squad is comprised of Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin, and everyone's favorite psycho, Harley Quinn — though it's unclear how many of these characters will survive the big screen comics caper as Gunn was given "carte blanche" to kill off any Suicide Squad members he wanted to, even the major players. We even see them fighting a giant "kaiju" starfish in the trailer.
Gunn announced the arrival date of the trailer in a tweet on Thursday, alongside a fresh poster for his upcoming standalone sequel. A new batch of individual character posters dropped on Friday, showing Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, John Cena as Peacemaker, and many more in the star-studded ensemble.

In a tweet last month, Gunn confirmed that the film was "fully finished" and ready for release. "The Suicide Squad is fully finished and cut and I made every single choice and [Warner Bros.] never once even slightly interfered," he wrote. "They gave very few notes - they were usually good and minor and I took them if I wanted to and didn't if I didn't want to. Warners was creatively amazing."
The film's official synopsis reads: "Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today's do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin, and everyone's favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.
"Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave... and Amanda Waller's government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they're dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone's laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them."

The Suicide Squad will hit cinemas and HBO Max simultaneously on August 6, 2021.
Gunn is also writing and directing a Suicide Squad TV series spinoff starring John Cena's character Peacemaker, together with Nhut Le as Judomaster, Steve Agee as John Economos, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and Chris Conrad as Vigilante/Adrian Chase. The Peacemaker series is set to be released on HBO Max in January 2022.

After the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League, DC fans are backing a new social media campaign to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse.
DiscussingFilm announced that the hashtag to "Restore the SnyderVerse" hit a major milestone when it was spotted trending worldwide with over one million tweets calling for Warner Bros. to allow Snyder to finish his DC Extended Universe plan. More SnyderVerse supporters joined the movement in the aftermath of Snyder's Justice League, which debuted on HBO Max on March 18, 2021.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/21/the-true-story-behind-the-snyder-cut"]
The Snyder cut itself was released after a legion of fans coalesced into an online collective that, ultimately, a major motion picture studio could not ignore, resulting, in part, with the studio giving them exactly what they demanded by greenlighting Snyder's version of Justice League, the movie he began but which Joss Whedon finished after Snyder left the project.
As many DC fans already know, the planned Justice League trilogy is no longer happening, even though the newly released Snyder cut ends on a massive cliffhanger. Snyder has already explained why the film sets up a direct sequel that is now not likely to happen, despite having ideas on how the potential trilogy could have ended with a shock new superhero, and much, much more.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/03/26/zack-snyders-justice-league-an-unlikely-fusion-of-dcs-comics-and-games"]
Plot rumors about Snyder's Justice League 2 have circulated for years, with Kevin Smith claiming the sequel would have seen the superheroes traveling to Apokolips to confront Darkseid. There was even chatter the second film would have ended on a downbeat note in the vein of Empire Strikes Back, while a third and final film would have been the final end battle between the Justice League and Darkseid.
For now, though, we have four hours of Snyder's Justice League to sit and dissect, with extended fight scenes, a different aspect ratio, new character designs, and deleted scenes to examine. IGN has put together a breakdown of how the new iteration of the film differs from Whedon's theatrical version of Justice League from 2017, including how much of the film is presented in slow motion.

Call of Duty 2021 Reportedly Called Vanguard, Set in World War 2
2021's Call of Duty is reportedly called Vanguard and set during World War 2.
Eurogamer has corroborated elements of a report from Modern Warzone which arrived earlier this week, claiming that COD 2021's working title is "Call of Duty WWII: Vanguard" and is being developed by Sledgehammer Games.
Eurogamer says that Activision plans to "stick with the Vanguard subtitle for the final version," but disagrees with Modern Warzone's claim that the game "takes place in an alternate timeline where 1945 wasn't the end of World War 2." Instead, they believe Vanguard "has a traditional WW2 setting."

Sledgehammer Games previously worked on Call of Duty: WWII and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. We already knew Activision was planning to release another Call of Duty game this year thanks to their Q4 2020 earnings call, where they said this year's Call of Duty would land in Q4 of 2021.

The Witcher: Blood Origin Casts Vikings Alum Laurence O’Fuarain in Lead Role
Netflix's upcoming The Witcher prequel series, Blood Origin, has cast Laurence O'Fuarain as Fjall, a warrior that "carries a deep scar within, the death of a loved one who fell in battle trying to save him."
The casting news was announced on Twitter alongside a character description: Fjall was "born into a clan of warriors sworn to protect a King" but holds a scar that "won't let him settle, or make peace with himself or the world around him. In his quest for redemption, Fjall will find himself fighting beside the most unlikely of allies as he carves a path of vengeance across a continent in turmoil."
[caption id="attachment_2492087" align="alignnone" width="720"] Image credit: Netflix[/caption]
O'Fuarain is best known for his roles on Vikings, Game of Thrones, and Rebellion.
The Irish actor joins Jodie Turner-Smith who was previously announced in the role of Éile, "an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess, [who] has left her clan and position as Queen's guardian to follow her heart as a nomadic musician. A grand reckoning on the continent forces her to return to the way of the blade in her quest for vengeance and redemption."
As per the show's logline, Blood Origin is "set in an elven world 1200 years before the world of The Witcher, Blood Origin will tell a story lost to time - the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal “conjunction of the spheres,” when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one."

Blood Origin is being developed by the original series' showrunner, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, and Declan de Barra, who wrote the season 1 episode 'Of Banquets, Bastards and Burials' while The Witcher novelist Andrzej Sapkowski will serve as creative consultant on the six-part series. No release date for The Witcher Season 2 or The Witcher: Blood Origin has been set as of yet.

Microsoft Could Reportedly Acquire Discord By Next Month
Microsoft is reportedly in "exclusive" talks to acquire Discord, and the deal could be completed as soon as next month.
A report from The Wall Street Journal citing "people familiar with the matter" has backed up a Bloomberg report from earlier this week, which said that Microsoft was in talks to purchase Discord for $10 billion or more, and that Xbox boss Phil Spencer was part of the discussions.
"Microsoft and Discord are in exclusive talks and could complete a deal next month, assuming the negotiations don’t fall apart," the article says. It also points out that the acquisition is apparently tied to Microsoft hoping to reach more consumers across both gaming and social networking. A similar drive saw saw Microsaoft pursue an abandoned acquisition of TikTok last year.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/03/23/microsoft-could-be-eyeing-another-billion-dollar-purchase-ign-daily-fix"]
If you're unfamiliar, Discord is a messaging platform used by online communities to congregate, chat and play games together. It has been around since 2015 and has grown its user base considerably in recent years, leading to making $130 million in revenue in 2020, and a $7 billion valuation. The WSJ's report points out that Discord recently hired its first finance chief and has also been considering an Initial Public Offering.
Discord previously partnered with Xbox Game Pass to provide members with special perks such as access to Discord Nitro, its premium service. If the deal goes through this would be another high-profile acquisition for Microsoft, who recently picked up ZeniMax Media for $7.5 billion, pulling development studios such as Arkane, Bethesda and id Software under its wing in the process.
