Mass Effect Legendary Edition Comparison Showcases Updates to Shepard

While the Mass Effect Legendary Edition reveal trailer offered a look at a host of the many beloved characters from BioWare's original trilogy, EA has offered a new better look at how the male and female versions of Commander Shepard have evolved since the original releases. Check out the gallery below for a look at both baseline versions of Commander Shepard as they originally appeared, as well as how they now look in the Legendary Edition. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=mass-effect-legendary-edition-comparison-screenshots&captions=true"] Alongside Mass Effect Legendary Edition's May release date confirmation, BioWare and EA also confirmed that the standard Female Shepard players can choose from across all three games will be the iconic Mass Effect 3 version of the character. Of course, players can choose to customize their Shepard, and EA also confirmed the character creator options will work across all three games and includes an "improved and expanded selection of hair, makeup, and skin tone options." Ahead of its May 14 launch, be sure to read IGN's first impressions of Mass Effect Legendary Edition and the changes BioWare has made, and be sure to read up on everything we've learned so far, including why there aren't dedicated PS5 and Xbox Series X versions, how the collection is treating the extended cut ending of Mass Effect 3, and why some of Mass Effect 1's DLC won't be in the game. Don’t Expect Overwatch 2 or Diablo 4 to Launch in 2021

Activision-Blizzard isn't planning on launching either Overwatch 2 or Diablo 4 in 2021, the publisher told shareholders today. In today's earnings call following the its full fiscal year results for 2020, Activision-Blizzard noted to investors that its financial plans for the coming year do not include the launch of either game. The publisher went on to specify that it also was not including upcoming title Diablo: Immortals in its projections for the year; however, it also said that the mobile game was "progressing well" and anticipated it would launch this year. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/11/01/overwatch-2-announcement-trailer"] This news comes just weeks ahead of BlizzCon, the annual convention where major Blizzard game announcements for the coming year are typically made. This year, the convention is taking place online, and at least some new information on Overwatch 2 has already been teased for the event. Also from the call, CEO Bobby Kotick revealed several, free-to-play Warcraft mobile games are in "advanced development" currently. Both Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 were announced over a year ago at BlizzCon 2019, but few details about either game have been shared since then. Blizzard Has ‘Multiple’ Warcraft Mobile Games In Development

For years there have been rumors that Activision Blizzard is working on a Warcraft-inspired mobile game. Today, company CEO Bobby Kotick confirmed that there are in fact “multiple” mobile Warcraft experiences in “advanced development” at Blizzard. During the latest financial earnings call, Kotick spoke to investors and shared plans to expand upon the Warcraft franchise by delivering “more frequent premium content.” As part of this strategy, Blizzard is deep in development on, not one, but multiple free-to-play Warcraft experiences for mobile. “In our Warcraft franchise, we intend to deliver more frequent premium content to sustain and expand the World of Warcraft community,” Kotick said to investors. “And we’ve made multiple, mobile, free-to-play Warcraft experiences and they’re now in advanced development based on our franchise’s beloved IP.” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-world-of-warcraft-review&captions=true"] Kotick prefaced this news by talking about Diablo Immortal which has garnered positive buzz during its limited test trials and how it set the stage to “meaningfully expand [Diablo’s] global reach.” Rumors of a mobile Warcraft game have been around since 2017 when Blizzard posted job listings for a new mobile game seemingly based on the Warcraft franchise. One rumor in 2018 suggested Blizzard was working on a Pokemon Go-style AR game. Given Kotick says there are “multiple” projects, this could be just one of several upcoming games from Blizzard. There are technically already Warcraft-inspired games on mobile considering Hearthstone is a Warcraft trading card game spinoff available on mobile devices. But Kotick’s comments are in reference to unannounced, in-development projects. Marvel’s Eternals Director Chloe Zhao to Direct a Sci-Fi, Western Dracula

Chloé Zhao, the director of Nomadland and the upcoming Marvel's Eternal, is teaming up with Universal Pictures to write, direct, and produce a project based on the iconic vampire Dracula. As reported by THR, this Dracula project will be developed through her production company, Highwayman, and is said to be "described as an original, futuristic, sci-fi western." "I’ve always been fascinated by vampires and the concept of the Other they embody. I’m very excited to work with Donna, Peter and the team at Universal to reimagine such a beloved character." Zhao said. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/09/nomadland-official-trailer-1"] Count Dracula first appeared in Bram Stoker's 1897 gotchic horror novel Dracula, and Universal is celebrating the 90th anniversary of its Dracula film that debuted in 1931 and starred Bela Lugosi. There were reports of a Dracula film being in the works in 2020, following the success of The Invisible Man, and is just one of the many Monster movie projects underway at Universal alongside those from Phil Lord and Chris Miller, James Wan, Paul Feig, Elizabeth Banks, and Dexter Fletcher. Nomadland received four Golden Globe nominations, including Best Motion Picture (Drama), Best Screeplay, and Best Director. The best director nomination was the first for an Asian woman. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-25-best-horror-movies&captions=true"] In our Nomadland review, we said it is "a radiant celebration of humanity and community. Chloé Zhao takes the seeds of real stories and nurtures them with location settings, real people, and a non-judgmental eye at a misunderstood American subculture. Watching this film, I was swept away from my comfy but small apartment to the sprawling but intimidating expanses of the American West made a silent sidekick to a rebel riding a rickety van instead of a trusty steed." Marvel's Eternals, which is set to be released in theaters on November 5, 2021, had the best pitch Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had ever heard. The film is based on Rodgers and Hammerstein’s theatrical musical, which was originally broadcast in 1957 with Julie Andrews starring. Tom Holland Calls Next Spider-Man ‘Most Ambitious Standalone Superhero Movie Ever Made”

Actor Tom Holland says that the currently untitled third Spider-Man MCU film is “the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made” in an interview with Variety.

"I can say that it’s the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made,” Holland said on Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast. “You sit down, read the script, and see what they’re trying to do, and they’re succeeding. It’s really impressive. I’ve never seen a standalone superhero movie quite like it. And I’m just, you know... that lucky little shit who happens to be Spider-Man in it. We got a lot more shooting to do. We started before Christmas and shot for like seven weeks. We stopped for the Christmas break, and then we’re starting again. I’m just as excited as everyone else to see it, let alone be a part of it."

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/10/is-spider-man-3-also-adding-daredevil"]

Holland’s comment would seem to bolster theories that Spider-Man 3 is whipping up some sort of multi-verse (Spider-verse?) storyline featuring actors from different film incarnations of the franchise. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, the previous two Spider-Man actors, are expected to appear, although Disney and Marvel have declined to confirm the rumors of their casting. The sequel is also confirmed to star Doctor Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch, with Alfred Molina reprising his Spider-Man 2 (2004) role as Doctor Octopus, and Jamie Foxx returning as Electro (from Amazing Spider-Man 2).

Captain America’s Chris Evans and Daredevil’s Charlie Cox are also rumored to have joined the Spider-Man 3 cast, but that news remains a rumor for now, with Evans saying it’s “news to me.”

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=%20Standalone%20Superhero%20Movie%20Ever%20Made&captions=true"]

Holland says that filming for Spider-Man 3 took a break over the winter holidays, but will resume in the near future.

Hero Collector Brings the Weapons of the MCU to Your Home

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is home to some of the coolest weapons in movie history - Iron Man's armor, Captain America's shield and the Infinity Gauntlet, just to name a few. Now MCU fans can bring these powerful artifacts home thanks to a new series of scale-model collectibles called the Marvel Museum Collection. Each of these pieces ranges from 6 to 8 inches tall and features an accurate recreation of a different weapon or mask from an MCU movie, complete with a decorative display base. The first Marvel Museum Collection wave will consist of four collectibles - the Iron Man Mark VII helmet, Cap's shield, Black Panther's helmet and Thor's hammer Mjolnir. Get a closer look at all four pieces in the slideshow gallery below: [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=marvel-museum-collection-exclusive-preview&captions=true"] The Marvel Museum Collection is produced by Hero Collector, an imprint of the UK-based Eaglemoss that focuses on genre properties like Marvel. While Eaglemoss generally offers figurines and collectibles through subscription services or through specialty retailers, the company is taking more of a mass-market approach to this series. All for Marvel pieces will be sold in Walmart stores beginning in May 2021, before debuting through other retailers and on the Eaglemoss website. Naturally, this first wave barely scratches the surface of the iconic weapons and costumes in the MCU. With any luck, we'll see Hero Collector tackle everything from the Infinity Gauntlet to Star-Lord's helmet to the Eye of Agamotto in future waves. Let us know what MCU weapons you'd like to own in the comments below. EVE Online Breaks Its Own Guinness World Record for the Costliest Video Game Battle in History

EVE Online, the popular spacefaring MMO, just witnessed its biggest and most costly battle in the game’s history, setting a Guinness World Record in the process. “The Massacre at M2-XFE” cost two of EVE Online’s biggest factions an estimated total of $378,012. The battle was part of an ongoing universe-spanning war that's cost $700,000 in total.

On December 31, 2020, 5,000 players EVE’s PAPI and Imperium factions collided in the game’s M2-XFE region near a “Keepstar” (a sort of extra large space station) when PAPI forces began firing upon docked Imperium ships. Earlier in the day, a lone Imperium pilot managed to disable a “cyno jammer,” allowing the Imperium to bring in additional reinforcements.

The ensuing battle lasted approximately 14 hours, with both factions losing supercapital ships (the largest kind in-game, roughly the size of seven Empire State buildings) at a relatively equal rate. Fighting only ceased when EVE was scheduled to go offline for downtime maintenance.

Of the 1,304 Titan ships that participated in the battle, a whopping 257 of them were destroyed. PAPI forces lost a combined 130 Titans while the Imperium lost 122. Among all classes of ships, PAPI lost a total of 1,810 ships while the Imperium lost 1,596.

50783823041_9cd9927a43_k

"This battle is a bit like a poker game where both players stockpiled weapons for several years and then went all-in,” said PAPI member Gobbins. “One side started escalating the fight to the absolute maximum of their resources, and the other matched in full; not just in terms of manpower but also in the value of assets committed. It is rare in EVE to see so much at stake in a single fight as the losses can undo years of effort from thousands of participating players. However, in this rare instance it did indeed happen, causing the biggest fight we have ever seen, both for the numbers of players involved and the amount of assets destroyed. Really remarkable."

To commemorate the event (and the associated damage), an official monument bearing the names of all players involved in the battle is being constructed by developer CCP.

render_02

The estimated total of damages in $USD is based on how much in-game currency (called PLEX) it would cost to replace each ship. Much of the ships however are the result of thousands of man-hours grinding for resources. The most expensive ship destroyed during the battle, Grencia Mars’ Vanquisher cost an estimated $5,500 equivalent in $USD.

Despite the digital bloodshed, the Massacre at M2-XFE is just one battle amidst EVE Online’s ongoing “World War Bee 2,” the game’s third universe-spanning war. Upwards of 130,000 players are still duking it out for in-game territory.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/06/01/why-eve-online-is-unlike-any-other-game"]

Funny enough, while M2-XFE is certainly the most costly battle in EVE history, this is technically only the third-largest battle in terms of player count. EVE’s Battle of FWST-8 clocked in at 6,557 players. The previous record for most costly battle in USD was held by the Battle of B-R5RB, which cost players an estimated $302,000.
