Chappelle’s Show Is Headed Back to Netflix After Dave Chappelle Resolves Dispute

Dave Chappelle has announced that Chappelle's Show is now streaming on Netflix again. As reported by Variety, Chappelle posted an Instagram video on Thursday from a recent standup performance at Austin venue Stubb's. Partway through the 10-minute clip, which he titled "Redemption Song," the comedian summarized his past dispute with Comedy Central and its parent company, ViacomCBS, which resulted in him requesting the removal of his show from Netflix late last year. At the time, Chappelle criticized ViacomCBS for licensing the Chappelle's Show streaming rights to Netflix without compensating him, but now he says that the issue has been resolved. In the candid clip posted this week, Chappelle confirmed that he was able to renegotiate a deal with the involved parties, which meant that his hit sketch-comedy show could return to Netflix on February 12. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/12/08/dave-chappelle-wants-you-to-put-your-phone-away"] "I asked you to stop watching the show and thank God almighty for you, you did," Chappelle said in the video. "You made that show worthless because without your eyes, it's nothing. And you stopped watching it. They called me and I got my name back and I got my license back and I got my show back and they paid me millions of dollars. Thank you very much." Chappelle then thanked Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos for listening to his request and having the "courage" to remove his show from the platform in November at "a financial detriment to his company." He also extended his gratitude to Chris McCarthy of ViacomCBS for having "an interest in making the past right," and doing something the was "very courageous." The comedian ended the clip with one final shoutout, saying, "And finally, after all these years, I can finally say to Comedy Central: It's been a pleasure doing business with you." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-25-best-netflix-comedy-specials&captions=true"] Chappelle's Show originally aired on Comedy Central from 2003 to 2006. The series ranked number 19 on IGN's Top 100 TV Shows of All Time. Though he signed a lucrative $50 million contract with the network for two more seasons, Chappelle famously left the series in 2005, citing creative burnout and describing himself as sometimes being a "difficult dude." Bam Margera Says He’s Been Cut from Jackass 4

Bam Margera has urged fans to boycott Jackass 4 after he was allegedly cut from the movie. LADBible transcribed two videos that Margera posted on Instagram before they were seemingly deleted. In the videos, the Jackass prankster apparently claimed that Paramount had cut him from the upcoming fourth movie. He alleged that the studio forced multiple breathalyzer tests on him, as well as requesting urine samples and filming him take anti-depressants, per the report. [ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://www.ign.com/videos/2011/04/01/jackass-35-montage-of-pain] "Who the f**k cares if I'm drunk as hell anymore? Jackass has put me through hell on f**king wheels for a year-and-a-half," Margera reportedly said. "I wrote them so many ideas, and if I'm not in the movie and they use my ideas, how do you think that will make me feel? The last thing I want to do is be in a courtroom with [director] Jeff Tremaine, I love him. But f**k, man, I'm not in Jackass 4? If anybody cares about me, don't go see their movie, because I will make mine way f**king radder if you just Venmo me a dollar." Later, Margera stated that he was feeling a lot of "pain" because Jackass was "everything" to him. He then implored people to support him in creating his own production to rival Jackass 4, saying, "If anybody cares about me at all, then throw me a f**king bone and send a dollar to this Venmo and the more you send, the radder s*** we can do, and I give everyone f**king credit for it. Like, I can't compete with their $10m, ladies and gentlemen, but if I had that, I would blow them out of the f**king water." IGN has reached out to Paramount for comment, and will update this story should they respond. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-delayed-movie-due-to-coronavirus-so-far&captions=true"] A controversial but influential icon of early 2000s reality TV, Jackass was created by Johnny Knoxville, Spike Jonze, and Jeff Tremaine. Jackass began life as an MTV series that ran from 2000 to 2002 before migrating to the big screen for 2002's Jackass: The Movie. It was followed by two sequels, Jackass Number Two (2006) and Jackass 3D (2010), as well as some direct-to-DVD specials pieced together from unused movie footage and the 2013 Oscar-nominated spin-off Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa. Paramount announced in 2019 that a fourth Jackass installment was set for production, and scheduled the movie for release on March 5, 2021. Last year, however, the fourth entry in the extreme stunt franchise was delayed until July 2, 2021, as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In further calendar changes, Variety reports that the release is now slated for September 3, 2021. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Adele Ankers is a Freelance Entertainment Journalist. Overwatch Ex-Lead Writer Working on a New ‘Multiplayer Character-Action Game’ for 2K

The ex-lead writer of Overwatch, Michael Chu, is working on a "multiplayer character-action game" for new 2K Games studio 31st Union. Twitter user MauroNL put together a thread looking at 31st Union's job openings. The most telling nugget of info comes from the Senior Software Engineer listing, which calls 31st Union's upcoming game a "multiplatform multiplayer character-action game," which sounds like a similar premise to other hero shooters such as Overwatch or Team Fortress 2. A Senior Engine Programmer listing also calls the game "AAA," desiring a candidate familiar with "PS4, Xbox One, IOS and Android development tools." Other listings mention familiarity with Unreal Engine 4, suggesting this is the engine the game is being built in. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/09/new-bioshock-announced-ign-now"] Ex-Overwatch Lead Writer Michael Chu joined 31st Union in July 2020 and mentions in a blog post on the studio's website that he is passionate about creating inclusive characters, and has found a studio that represents these values in 31st Union. "Our mission is not only to tell diverse, representative stories, but to create systems that will enable us to authentically and accurately represent underrepresented groups from around the world, and perhaps most importantly, to foster an inclusive environment where these stories are told by a broad and diverse group of creators who speak with their own voices, from their own experiences," his blog post reads. A Writer listing for the mysterious upcoming game mentions how the candidate will be responsible for pitching "original characters and storylines" as well as working on in-game factions to "shape the future of storytelling in online multiplayer gaming." An opening for a Senior World / Level Designer talks about the need for those experienced in "online multiplayer action games" to "own map ideas from inception to completion" with a focus on fine-tuning post-launch. "Can take a set of systems or player abilities and build spaces that highlight those abilities in interesting and creative ways," the listing reads. That specific mention of player abilities adds to the mounting evidence that the game will be a hero shooter in the vein of Overwatch. Potential Software Engineers will work on matchmaking, telemetry, replay, latency spikes and more, and will need to "improve network code resistance to cheating and security exploits," which are all facets of a successful multiplayer character-action game. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/19/overwatch-review-2020-update"] Of course, the game hasn't been officially revealed yet, but we'll be sure to keep you posted if we hear anything more. VG247 reported in early 2020 that according to a Take-Two earnings call, 31st Union's game was going to be revealed "over the coming months," but plans may have been impacted by the pandemic. 31st Union is based in San Mateo, California and was established back in February of 2019, with the studio's name being revealed in February of 2020. The team is being led by Michael Condrey, previously the co-founder of Sledgehammer Games. Elsewhere at 2K, another new studio known as Cloud Chamber is working on a brand new Bioshock game. Face/Off Sequel in the Works With Godzilla vs. Kong Director

Update (2/11/21) - Adam Wingard has clarified that his Face/Off film will be a direct sequel to the 1997 action film, not a remake or re-imagining. "I would NEVER re-imagine or remake FACE/OF. It's a perfect action movie. Simon Barrett and I are writing a direct SEQUEL! :) :)" Wingard wrote on Instagram. Original story follows. [poilib element="accentDivider"] A remake of 1997's Face/Off, which starred John Travolta and Nicolas Cage, is in the works at Paramount and will be directed by Godzilla vs. Kong's Adam Wingard. As reported by THR, Wingard will also co-write the script with Simon Barrett. 22 Jump Street's Oren Uziel wrote a previous draft of the remake that was rumored to be in development in 2019. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/11/17/faceoff-official-trailer"] The original Face/Off was directed by John Woo and followed the tale of FBI agent Sean Archer (Travolta) and terrorist Castor Troy (Cage). Archer has to go undercover as a criminal and has a doctor replace his face with Troy's. When Troy wakes up, he forces that same doctor to give him Archer's face. Fast and Furious creative Neal Mortiz will produce for Paramount and David Permut will take on the role of executive producer. Adam Wingard will be joining us for our IGN Fan Fest 2021 in a segment called "Godzilla vs. Kong: Breaking Down Cinema's Biggest Brawl with Adam Wingard." Wingard will answer fan questions and offer a new sneak peak of the film ahead of its release on HBO Max and in theaters on March 21, 2021. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2016/04/22/igns-top-25-cheesy-action-movies"] In 2017, Face/Off made it to the seventh spot in our Top 25 Cheesy Action Movies list. To the uninitiated, Face/Off sounds absurd," We wrote. "It is absurd. Nothing about chopping off your own face and sewing your worst enemy’s face on your skull in its place makes a shred of sense. But how else are you going to be able to unleash Nic Cage and John Travolta under strict instructions to act like the most utterly insane version of each other that they can muster? I rest my case." Clue Board Game to Become Animated Series at Fox

Clue, the popular murder-mystery board game, will be turned into an animated series over at Fox, according to new reports. Deadline says Fox is working with Hasbro’s Entertainment One content studio on a new animated series based on the long-running board game. Fox-owned Bento Box will be working on the series. There are no further details on the project, but Bento Box is the animation studio behind hit series like Bob’s Burgers if that’s any indication of the direction Fox and Hasbro are looking to take with the board game adaptation. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=nominees-best-animated-tv-series-of-2019&captions=true"] Clue was first released in 1949 and it simulates a class whodunnit murder-mystery. Players take on the roles of either Colonel Mustard, Professor Plum, Ms. Peacock, Ms. Scarlett, or Mr. Green and players investigate the board for clues to find out who killed Mr. Body. In 1985 a Clue movie was released starring Tim Curry. The comedy followed a similar premise and even included multiple endings with a different murderer for each. Although the Clue movie went on to become a famous bomb at the box office, it has since gained cult status. Meanwhile, Hasbro has been busy licensing its brands for films and TV. Entertainment One is overseeing a new connected Power Rangers universe across movies and television, and Risk is set for a TV adaptation from House of Cards creator Beau Willimon. A Dungeons & Dragons movie is also in the works with a former Marvel Studios alum as a producer. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt T.M. Kim is a News Editor at IGN.

WonderCon Will Be Virtual Again This Year

WonderCon 2021 has decided to go virtual again this year, with the potential for a physical event in Anaheim canceled by the event organizer Comic-Con International.

The Anaheim, California comic book and geek culture convention, organized by the same group behind San Diego Comic-Con, was originally scheduled for March 26 - 28. CCI has instead opted to produce another digital event, dubbed WonderCon@Home, that will run from March 26 - 27.

“2020 was a difficult year all around,” CCI said in a statement. “For the first time in the history of our organization, we were unable to have in-person events for WonderCon or Comic-Con. We have hoped that by now, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic might have subsided enough that we could once again come together in person for a traditional WonderCon event. Sadly, as we continue to monitor the latest information from healthcare officials, we have determined the interest of public safety will prevent this spring’s WonderCon from moving forward as an in-person convention.”

Similar to last year’s virtual event, WonderCon@Home will feature panels posted to YouTube.

CCI added that the cancellation of the past year’s worth of events, along with postponement of others, has left the organization with “limited financial resources.”

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-delayed-movie-due-to-coronavirus-so-far&captions=true"] "We would like to thank everyone for your continued support as we anxiously look forward to a time when we can once again meet in person to celebrate comics, popular art, and spend time with our dedicated community of fans," CCI stated.

So what does this mean for San Diego Comic-Con? Nothing confirmed yet. The event is still scheduled for July 21 - 25, 2021, but CCI says it is continuing to “marshall resources” for the summer event.

Doctor Doom is Joining the Guardians of the Galaxy

Marvel Comics is greatly expanding the lineup of the Guardians of the Galaxy this year. And while most members are veterans of the team from one incarnation or another, there's one new recruit we never saw coming - Doctor Doom. This new roster will be introduced over the course of several months, beginning in April's Guardians of the Galaxy #13. You can check out a new cover montage featuring the full Guardians lineup below: [caption id="attachment_247237" align="aligncenter" width="5400"]GARGAL_Triptych Art by Brett Booth. (Image Credit: Marvel)[/caption] Written by Al Ewing and drawn by Juan Frigeri, Guardians of the Galaxy #13 begins a new status quo for the series building on the aftermath of 2020's Empyre crossover. In this so-called "New Age of Space," the Guardians have been deputized by the Galactic Council and are now the first line of defense across the Marvel Universe. To manage such a monumental task, they'll be extending invitations to everyone from former Young Avengers Wiccan and Hulking to Greek god Hercules to Doom himself. While it remains to be seen why Doom would have any interest in leaving his kingdom of Latveria behind in favor of gallivanting in space, it is worth remembering Doom has played a role in cosmic matters before. He christened himself "God Emperor Doom" in 2015's Secret Wars, ruling over Battleworld and all that remained of the Marvel multiverse. Doom's story has veered in other bizarre directions since, with the character even going through a brief period where he replaced Tony Stark as "The Infamous Iron Man." This new storyline also features the return of original Quasar Wendell Vaughn, which should be interesting given that his successor, Avril Kincaid, is also on the team. Are there now two pairs of Quantum Bands in the Marvel Universe? [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=wiccan-and-speed-the-weird-history-of-scarlet-witchs-children&captions=true"] Here's the full team lineup featured in the montage, from left to right:
  • Hulkling
  • Star-Lord
  • Nova (Richard Rider)
  • Groot
  • Gamora
  • Wiccan
  • Quasar (Avril Kincaid)
  • Rocket Raccoon
  • Doctor Doom
  • Super-Skrull
  • Moondragon
  • Drax the Destroyer
  • Noh-Varr
  • Mantis
  • Phyla-Vell
  • Hercules
  • Quasar (Wendell Vaughn)
