AMD Announces Its Ryzen 5000 Series Mobile Processors
AMD has announces its latest batch of Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors for laptops and gaming laptops.
Bringing the Zen 3 core to mobile, AMD announced a trio of Ryzen 5000 Processors including the Ryzen 7 5800U, Ryzen 9 5900HX, and Ryzen 9 5980HX.
Starting off with AMD's flagship Ryzen 7 5800U, it's an 8 core and 16 thread processor with a 4.4GHz maximum boost clock. According to AMD, the Ryzen 7 5800U far outpaces Intel's latest 11th Gen Core i7-1185G7 by 44% in Adobe Premier video encoding and 39% in Blender 3D Ray Tracing.
What's more AMD has announced a new line of even higher-end HX-Series mobile CPUs unlocked for overclocking to bring desktop-like performance to mobile. The first HX-Series processors we'll see include the Ryzen 9 5900HX, and Ryzen 9 5980HX.
The Ryzen 9 5900HX is an 8 core, 16 thread processor with a 4.6Ghz boost clock and 20MB of cache. The Ryzen 9 5980HX meanwhile features 8 cores and 16 threads, a 4.8GHz Boost Clock and 20MB of cache.
Additionally all of the Ryzen 5000 Series mobile processors are getting an injection of RDNA 2 that's found in AMD's latest graphics cards as well as the chips powering the Xbox Series X and PS5. To prove how much more powerful its integrated graphics is, AMD showed off how it can run Horizon Zero Dawn at 1080p and over 100fps.

Indiana Jones Game Coming from Bethesda and Lucasfilm Games
MachineGames (Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein: The New Colossus) and Bethesda are partnering with Lucasfilm Games on a standalone Indiana Jones game, to be executive produced by Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard.
Bethesda tweeted to say "A new Indiana Jones game with an original story is in development from our studio, @MachineGames, and will be executive produced by Todd Howard, in collaboration with @LucasfilmGames. It'll be some time before we have more to reveal, but we’re very excited to share today’s news!"
An original post from Bethesda on Twitter includes a video that shows the word MachineGames, a Lucasfilm Games logo, and the iconic hat and whip. A StarWars.com post explains that the teaser "may hold some clues", but does explain that the game will be set "at the height of the career of the famed adventurer."
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/12/indiana-jones-bethesda-game-official-teaser"]
Aside from the company logos, the game will seemingly revolve in part around Vatican City, with a plane ticket to Rome dated for October 1937, and, as IGN's Jordan Oloman points out, a map including the Sistine Chapel spead out on the desk.
No release date, genre, or platforms have been given at time of writing, but one thing is clear – MachineGames will have plenty of ideas for how Indie can dispatch Nazis.
With Bethesda soon to be owned by Microsoft, it's not clear if this will be an Xbox exclusive (timed or full), but it seems very likely that the game would launch into Game Pass, with Microsoft looking for Bethesda games to be "first, better, or best" on Xbox platforms.
Lucasfilm Games was announced as a returning brand yesterday, which will seemingly cover games made by multiple developers "in the Star Wars galaxy and beyond" - this is clearly the "beyond" part. "Lucasfilm Games is now the official identity for all gaming titles from Lucasfilm," read a statement, "a name that encompasses the company’s rich catalog of video games and its eye toward the future."
Lucasfilm Games (later LucasArts) released multiple Indiana Jones games in its time as a developer, including adventure game classic Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis - which we've called the greatest ever Indiana Jones game.
We'll also be getting a new Indiana Jones movie in 2022, which will conclude the character's story – it's due to be directed by Logan's James Mangold.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Updated for Next-Gen Consoles
EA and developer Respawn has issued a patch for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order that updates the game for next-generation consoles. While it's not a next-gen 'version' of the game - it doesn't add features or new tech - the patch does allow the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Fallen Order to make use of the significantly more powerful new console hardware.
The next-gen optimization update improves Fallen Order's framerate, dynamic resolution ranges, and post-processing resolution, although the changes do depend on what hardware you're running.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/11/15/star-wars-jedi-fallen-order-review"]
For Xbox Series S, the only change is the framerate, which has been increased from 45 FPS to 60 FPS. On Xbox Series X, 'Performance Mode' now hits 60 FPS, and the dynamic resolution can scale between 1080p and 1440p. On 'Normal mode', post-processing has been increased to 4K resolution, and the dynamic resolution can range between 1512p and 2160p.
Over on PlayStation 5, the framerate has been increased from 45 to 60 FPS. Unlike the Xbox version, there are no normal/performance modes; instead post-processing is set at 1440p, and dynamic scaling has been disabled in favour of a locked render resolution of 1200p (previously the game scaled between 810p and 1080p).
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-star-wars-game-review&captions=true"]
The update is available now, and will be applied to Fallen Order when you next play the game. For more, check out the news of the renewed Lucasfilm Games banner, which will be the brand under which all future Star Wars games are released.

Nintendo Reveals Mario Red & Blue Edition Switch Console
Nintendo has revealed a new Mario edition Switch, which is the first variant of the console for the screen unit itself to be offered in a different colour.
The Mario Red & Blue Edition replicates the iconic colours of Nintendo's mascot, with red Joy-Con controllers featuring blue straps and blue grips that mimic Mario's dungaree straps. The dock and system unit itself are also red, rather than the traditional black format. Additionally, the Mario Red & Blue Edition also ships with a matching carrying case, as well as a screen protector.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=nintendo-switch-mario-red-blue-edition&captions=true"]
The new "Mario Red" Joy-Con color is the third red color variant Nintendo has made, after the standard "Neon Red" launch color and the later "Red" Joy-Con that accompanied the release of Super Mario Odyssey. The set marks the eighth special edition Joy-Con release. It is not yet known if the set will be sold separately in any market like the 10 standalone Joy-Con colors.
This special edition version of the Switch console will be available to buy from February 12 - the release date of the Super Mario 3D World Switch version - and will be priced at $299.99. Nintendo states that it will be available from 'select' retailers, so you may need to browse a little to find a place selling them. Alternatively, you could go directly to the Nintendo store where the console is already listed.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury Trailer Shows Off a Kaiju-Sized Mario
We finally have our first proper look at Bowser's Fury, the expansion coming alongside the port of Super Mario 3D World for Nintendo Switch, and it features a friendly Bowser Jr., as well as Kaiju-sized versions of Bowser and Cat Mario.
Revealed in a new trailer, Bowser's Fury is described as an "all-new bonus adventure", and features Mario working with Bowser Jr., who can seemingly paint walls to create items, and attack enemies. It's not yet clear if Bowser Jr. is controllable by a second player. Check out a trailer below:
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/12/super-mario-3d-world-bowsers-fury-official-trailer-2"]
That trailer also shows off a giant version of the game's Bell power-up, which seeming turns our hero into a gigantic version of Cat Mario. That's in order to stop an inky new form of Bowser, who has "become gargantuan and lost all control" - whose appearances are accompanied by full-on metal music and very bad weather.
The courses on show definitely look to be on the tougher side - although it's not clear yet if this is designed as an endgame experience for 3D World. 3D World itself will be available as it was on Wii U, albeit with added online multiplayer for up to four players.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=mario-3d-world-bowsers-fury-screenshots&captions=true"]
New Cat Mario and Cat Peach amiibo will be released alongside the game, and will offer "in-game enhancements" in both Super Mario 3D World, and Bowser's Fury. Bowser and Bowser Jr. amiibo will also go back on sale, and offer special activations while playing Bowser's Fury specifically.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury will arrive for Switch on February 12, and you can preorder it right now.
We awarded the Wii U version of Super Mario 3D World a 9.6/10 in our review, saying it's "marvelous, and its constant variety and fantastic light-hearted co-op play proves that Nintendo still knows exactly how to tweak the Mario formula in fun ways."
