Godzilla vs. Kong North American Release Date Pushed a Few Days

Update: Shortly after the new Godzilla vs. Kong trailer debuted, WB has announced a new North American release date for Godzilla vs. Kong. While the upcoming film's international release date remains the same, March 26, it will now be released domestically on Wednesday, March 31. WB did not give a reason for the few days' shift, which puts its release in domestic theaters and on HBO MAx on a Wednesday as opposed to a Friday, but did additionally confirm that James Wan's new film Malignant will be released on September 10. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/01/24/godzilla-vs-kong-official-trailer"] For more on the upcoming showdown, be sure to watch the new trailer for Godzilla vs. Kong above, read about why Kong is so much bigger in the new movie, and vote on whether you think Godzilla or Kong will actually win. Original story follows: [poilib element="accentDivider"] Legendary has revealed a new poster for Godzilla vs. Kong in anticipation of a new trailer dropping on Sunday, January 24. This trailer will be the first full trailer for the movie released and while nobody knows exactly what's going to happen in the movie, one thing is clear: Godzilla and Kong have a bone to pick with each other. That's very apparent in the new poster Legendary revealed today, which shows Godzilla swimming toward a city seemingly under siege by Kong. Godzilla vs. Kong Poster As you can see on the poster above, it seems that by the end of this movie, either Godzilla or Kong will have fallen and it's likely we'll get a tease of this impending face-off in the first ever trailer for the movie when it's released on Sunday, January 24. This new poster comes weeks before the movie is released on March 26. Godzilla vs. Kong was originally set to hit theaters in 2020, but COVID-19 shifted this movie's release to a later date as it did for dozens of other films. It was then set for a March 21 release before it was delayed by five days to March 26 last week. Godzilla vs. Kong is a sequel to 2019's Godzilla: King of the Monsters and 2017's Kong: Skull Island and stars Millie Bobbie Brown, Alexander Skarsgård, and Rebecca Hall. It was directed by Adam Wingard, who is known for horror films like You're Next, V/H/S, and Blair Witch. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=a-visual-history-of-godzilla&captions=true"] This movie's fight between its two titular monsters is what the 2014 Godzilla reboot has been building toward and it's a face-off fans have been eager to see since the first footage of Godzilla vs. Kong was released late last year. While waiting for the new trailer, check out this story about how some toy packaging might offer a sneak peek at Godzilla vs. Kong and then read about how Godzilla: King of the Monsters sets up Godzilla vs. Kong. Watch this Godzilla & Kong in 5 minutes video after that to catch up on all the lore you need to know. No, A Naughty Dog Artist Didn’t Leak an Unannounced Fantasy Game

Earlier this week, fans noticed that a Naughty Dog artist had posted fantasy-medieval themed artwork that was outwardly 'inspired by a new game', leading to speculation that Naughty Dog may be working on an unannounced project in that genre. The artist has now confirmed to IGN that that is not the case, and that the artwork was inspired by Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Hyoung Nam, a senior concept artist for Naughty Dog, posted three pieces of artwork under the title "The Women of North" in November, comprising a knight sitting beside a slain dragon, a shaman-like figure with a skull headdress and staff, and a green-eyed figure wearing clothes made from animal skin and bones. The pieces were posted with a caption originally reading, "Inspire from the new game. You know what I'm talking about..." After being circulated this week, some fans and media outlets speculated that the "new game" could be an unannounced Naughty Dog project. However, speaking to IGN, Nam explained, "The illustration is not for ND's next new game," and added that this was fan art inspired by and made while the artist played Assassin's Creed Valhalla (itself released last November). Nam has now updated the caption to make clear the connection to Valhalla. While some will likely be sad – after all, a dragon-slaying, medieval-shamanic Naughty Dog fantasy game actually sounds pretty amazing – let's focus on the fact that Nam's fan art was so cool, it briefly made people imagine an entirely new game. That feels like an artistic achievement in and of itself. It's worth checking out Nam's wider portfolio on Artstation, too - particularly if you're interested in early, painterly takes on The Last of Us Part 2's many characters. As for what Naughty Dog actually has for us next, that's hard to tell. We know that there's no DLC planned for The Last of Us Part 2, but that there could still be a standalone multiplayer mode in the vein of the first game's Factions. Whatever it is, Naughty Dog has stepped up hiring, with studio co-president Neil Druckmann saying, "Come work with us! We're making something very cool!" There's also the small matter of the Last of Us TV show from HBO, which now has a series order, and a new director. Magic: The Gathering Returns to Comics in April 2021

If you enjoy the lore and characters of Magic: The Gathering as much as the game itself, then you'll be pleased to hear the long-running franchise is returning to the comic book arena in 2021. Publisher BOOM! Studios has struck a new deal with Wizards of the Coast and parent company Hasbro to produce a new line of Magic: The Gathering comics, beginning with an ongoing monthly series simply titled Magic. Magic's creative team includes writer Jed MacKay (Black Cat), artist Ig Guara (Ghost-Spider), colorist Arianna Consonni and letterer Ed Dukeshire. You can get an exclusive first look at the covers to Magic #1 and Guara's character designs in the slideshow gallery below: [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=magic-the-gathering-returns-to-comics-in-april-2021&captions=true"] The series opens in the realm of Ravnica, whose planet-sized city is rocked by assassination attempts against three Guildmasters, Ral Zarek, Vraska, and Kaya. The trio will be forced to put aside their differences and travel to the plane of Zendikar to hunt the assassins. Boom is teasing a climactic showdown with a major Magic: The Gathering character. “Twenty-five years ago when I was digging through the commons and uncommons bin to build my first deck, I would never have thought that one day I would be handed the reins to the Magic: The Gathering comic, but here we are!” said MacKay in the publisher's press release. “I'm extremely psyched to be digging into the world of MAGIC and all that entails, and can't wait for all of you to see what we've been cooking up for you!” “It is amazing to be able to tell a story in the universe of a game I have been playing for over 20 years! I battled the Affinity deck and watched the Phyrexian take over Mirrodin,” said Guara. “I was actually finishing a new Commander deck when the proposal came so you can imagine just how excited I am to be working on this series, and bringing this world alive for fans everywhere!” The Magic franchise has made its home at several different comic book publishers over the years. Most recently, IDW Publishing released several Magic: The Gathering limited series between 2011 and 2018. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/09/23/5-things-you-need-to-know-about-magic-the-gathering-arena"] Magic #1 will release in April 2021. The issue features cover art by Matteo Scalera (Black Science), with variant covers by Guara, InHyuk Lee (Miles Morales: Spider-Man), and Junggeun Yoon (Seven Secrets). The first issue also features a series of Hidden Planeswalker variant covers by artists Miguel Mercado (Mighty Morphin), Taj Tenfold (Abbott), and Magdalena Pagowska (The Library of Esoterica), each spotlighting a different iconic Magic character. Additionally, Boom will offer a "Magic pack" collector bundle that includes the main cover, an exclusive variant by Mirka Andolfo (Mercy). one of the Hidden Planeswalker covers and a blank sketch cover. This is just the latest big release in the Magic: The Gathering line. Recently we learned Wizards of the Coast is releasing a series of cards painted by none other than PBS mainstay Bob Ross, and those cards may be added to Magic: The Gathering Arena in the near future. We also learned Dungeons & Dragons will be getting its own Magic the Gathering set in Q3 2021. Beyond the card game itself, Magic is also headed to Netflix, as Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo are overseeing a new animated series. Several Magic players among the IGN staff weighed in on why this adaptation is such a big deal. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jesse is a mild-mannered staff writer for IGN. What Kind of Resident Evil Village News to Expect

As we shared above, you can expect a new trailer, a first-look at gameplay, a guided tour of the village, along with other news and announcements about Resident Evil Village. Resident Evil Village (also known as Resident Evil 8) was revealed back in June during the PS5 game reveal event, and was also confirmed for Xbox Series X and PC via Steam. Details about a deluxe edition and a mode called Re:Verse for Resident Evil Village were leaked via Humble Bundle, but it's unclear if we'll hear more about this during the showcase. So far we know Resident Evil 8 follows RE7's Ethan Winters and takes place in a desolate, snowy village crawling with all sorts of monsters, including zombies, werewolves, witches, and what the internet refers to as the "tall vampire lady" featured in the video of the showcase's announcement tweet. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/16/resident-evil-8-village-gameplay-trailer"] During a presentation at Tokyo Game Show, director Morimasa Sato emphasized Village will focus more on player freedom and exploration, describing it as a "horror movie you can play." Producer Peter Fabiano recently told IGN Resident Evil Village is an "accumulation of all the best elements of Resident Evil games from the past 25 years," and that there will be "plenty of puzzles to solve and mysteries to unfold." With a trailer, gameplay, and a guided tour of the village on the table for the showcase, it's possible we'll get to see some, if not, all of that in action today. [poilib element="accentDivider"]
