The Mandalorian Confirms Some Facts About a Fan Favorite Character

Chapter 14 of The Mandalorian (Season 2, Episode 6) revealed a few new things about a long-term fan favourite character from the Star Wars universe, which confirmed a long-standing question about them. Spoilers follow for The Mandalorian Chapter 14: The Tragedy. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/15/the-mandalorian-season-2-trailer"] First up, this episode fully confirmed that the robed character seen in Season 2’s premiere on Tatooine was indeed Boba Fett. It also confirmed that the mysterious figure seen back in Chapter 5, standing over Fennec Shand’s body, was also Boba Fett, as so many fans had theorised. But the big reveal was final confirmation that Boba Fett himself is indeed a true Mandalorian. Fett explained in the episode that his father was a foundling, and fought in the Mandalorian Civil Wars. This effectively means that Jango - and by extension Boba - are Mandalorian in the same way Din Djarin is, and that Jango's armour was given to him by Mando's "forebears." [caption id="attachment_244763" align="alignnone" width="1920"]MandalorianBoba Boba Fett finally straps on his Mandalorian armour, years after losing it.[/caption] For many years, fans have debated whether Boba Fett, and by extension his father, Jango Fett, are actually Mandalorians. Jango claims to have been born on Concord Dawn, part of the Mandalore system, but conflicting comments from various Star Wars creators and media - notably Pablo Hidalgo of the Lucasfilm Story Group - have said that the Fetts merely wear Mandalorian armour, rather than being actual Mandalorians themselves. With The Mandalorian considered canon, we now have an official, in-universe answer to this long-debated question. Boba Fett is not just a man wearing Mandalorian armour, he is a Mandalorian. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=boba-fett-lives-how-the-bounty-hunters-story-continued-after-return-of-the-jedi&captions=true"] To recap more of what happened in the action-packed latest chapter, check out our The Mandalorian S2E6 review. You can also catch up with the big reveal from last week: Baby Yoda’s real name. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt Purslow is IGN's UK News and Entertainment Writer.

Persona 5 Strikers Western Release Date Leaked, Coming to PS4, Switch and PC

Persona 5 Strikers will launch on February 23, 2021, for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC, according to a leaked trailer. An unlisted YouTube video revealed the news, which was spotted by Wario64 on Twitter, and rehosted by Gematsu in a new report. The trailer summarizes the story of the game and shows off some slick footage of the combat, featuring fan favourites like Morgana and Ryuji quipping their way through proceedings. We also get a glimpse at some of the bosses from Strikers before a title card reveals the release date and platforms for the Persona 5 spin-off, which launched in Japan on February 20 earlier this year under the title of Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers. We won't have to wait too long to play it in the west, as Persona 5 Strikers is launching on PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC on February 23, 2021. The trailer notes that you'll be able to pre-order the game via the official website, but the Persona 5 Strikers page isn't live yet. Perhaps ATLUS had planned to reveal the game during The Game Awards - regardless, it seems like the cat is out of the bag... [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/04/25/persona-5-scramble-the-phantom-strikers-announcement-video"] In other Persona news, back in August of this year, SEGA noted its intention to "aggressively" port games to Steam and other new platforms following the success of Persona 4 Golden's PC port. AMC Theaters Slams Warner Bros’ HBO Max 2021 Movies Release Plan

AMC Theaters CEO, Adam Aron, believes Warner Bros. is sacrificing studio, production, and filmmaker profitability with its new HBO Max 2021 release plan. Warner Bros. announced today that its 17-film slate of movies releasing next year will hit HBO Max day-and-date with theaters and will remain on the streaming service for one month. After that month is up, the movie will be removed from HBO Max, but the theatrical release will continue to show in theaters, like those of AMC. The company's CEO slammed the decision today in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/03/warner-bros-and-hbo-max-2021-movies-announcement-trailer"] "Clearly, Warner Media intends to sacrifice a considerable portion of the profitability of its movie studio division, and that of its production partners and filmmakers, to subsidize its HBO Max startup," said Aron, who is also president of AMC Theaters. "As for AMC, we will do all in our power to ensure that Warner does not do so at our expense. We will aggressively pursue economic terms that preserve our business." Aron said AMC Theaters is already in an "immediate and urgent dialogue" with Warner Bros. He also said the theater chain is confident that incoming COVID-19 vaccines will make it easier for moviegoers to return to theaters safely and with peace of mind. Aron's statement comes the same day the theater chain announced that it would be selling 200 million shares to raise $844 million, which resulted in a 17% stock drop, as reported by Variety. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=dc-extended-universe-every-upcoming-movie&captions=true"] This isn't the first time AMC has found itself at odds with a movie studio. It briefly banned all Universal Pictures releases back in April after the studio bypassed a theatrical release for Trolls World Tour to release it as a video-on-demand movie. If you haven't caught the big HBO Max news of today, read about how movies like The Matrix 4, Mortal Kombat, and The Suicide Squad are premiering on HBO Max the same day they debut in theaters. This news comes weeks after Warner Bros. announced that Wonder Woman 1984 will debut on HBO Max the same day it debuts in theaters on Christmas Day. Disney’s Hawkeye: Black Widow’s Florence Pugh, Vera Farmiga Join Cast

Disney Plus’ Hawkeye series has added a number of new actors to its cast, including Black Widow’s Florence Pugh, Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Alaqua Cox, and Zahn McClarnon, according to Variety.

Pugh is reprising her role as Yelena Belova, sister of Black Widow in the Marvel cinematic universe. Farmiga (Up in the Air, The Conjuring series, The Departed) will play Eleanor Bishop, Kate Bishop’s mother.

Fee (Les Miserables as well as the upcoming Cinderella film) is cast as Kazi, a villain also known as the Clown.

Dalton (Salamanca in Better Call Saul) will play Jack Duquesne. In Marvel lore, Duquesne (also known as “Swordsman”) is a mentor figure to Hawkeye and has varied between hero and villain over the years.

Cox, in her first onscreen appearance, will play Maya Lopez, or Echo. Often depicted as a supporting character to Daredevil, Echo is a Native American individual with the ability to perfectly mimic her opponent’s movements. She’s also one of the few deaf comic characters in the Marvel universe.

McClarnon (Westworld’s Akecheta) will play William Lopez, who is most likely Maya Lopez’ father, named Willie “Crazy Horse” Lincoln.

The new cast members will play supporting roles to Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye and Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, who eventually takes on the Hawkeye name. Disney has yet to confirm Steinfeld’s role, despite Variety reporting it earlier. Steinfeld has previously starred in True Grit, Bumblebee, and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Disney’s Hawkeye series currently has no announced premiere date and will be beaten to Disney Plus by the upcoming WandaVision series debuting in January.

Silent Hill, Gravity Rush Creator Forms New Studio With Sony Japan Studio Alum

Three Sony Japan developers, Junya Okura, Kazunobu Sato, and Keiichiro Toyama, have left the company to create Bokeh Game Studio. Toyama, who is best known as the director of Silent Hill and the Gravity Rush series, will serve as the studio's creative director alongside lead Gravity Rush designer, Okura, and Sato, who was the lead designer of The Last Guardian. The three will lead Bokeh as an independent game studio with the goal of rediscovering the joy in making games. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-best-ps1-games-ever&captions=true"] "First I want to fulfill our fans' expectations, but at the same time, I want to go back and enjoy how fun it is to make games," Toyama said in the studio's announcement video released on December 2. "I want to share that feeling to the players. This is what I'll aim for from now on." The announcement video features the three developers sitting at a bar talking about their shared excitement for Bokeh. Okura, who will work as the studio's game director, mentioned that until the formation of this studio, there was always a company providing them with a work environment. Now that they're independent, they'll have to prepare everything themselves, he said. "It is hard," Okura said. "There are responsibilities, but we have our freedom. That is the most important. I want to enjoy creating from now on." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/11/11/first-person-silent-hill-fan-remake-gameplay"] Sato, who will serve as the studio's producer, said founding a company came with many challenges but that advice from those around them helped bring this idea to life. He said the team can now just focus on making games. "I look forward to it," Sato said. "Many people we've worked with in the past are joining us too. I'm convinced that we'll be able to deliver something everyone will enjoy." There's no word on who else is joining the studio, although Sato hinted that people they've worked with in the past will be joining them, nor is there a word of what they're working on or when we can expect to hear anything about it.
