Capcom Victim of Cyber Attack

Capcom issued a statement on Thursday saying it was the victim of a cyber-attack by a third party. The company confirmed that at this time there is no reason to believe customer data was breached.

Capcom stated that the attack occurred in the early hours of November 2 and affected access to certain systems, including email and file servers. Capcom has confirmed a third party was responsible for the attack, but has yet to provide any information regarding the third party’s identity. As a result of the attack, Capcom says it has halted some operations of its internal networks as of November 2.

“Capcom expressed its deepest regret for any inconvenience this may cause to its various stakeholders,” Capcom wrote. “Further, it stated that at present there is no indication that any customer information was breached. This incident has not affected connections for playing the company's games online or access to its various websites.”

Capcom says it is coordinating with law enforcement and “other related authorities,” as well as carrying out an investigation and working to restore its systems.

IGN has reached out to Capcom for additional comment and will update our story if we receive a response. Capcom is far from the only major game company dealing with a serious breach of security. Ubisoft was recently the victim of a hack that resulted in the source code of Watch Dogs Legion (a whopping 560 GB of data) being leaked online. Disney Removes Free Guy, Death on the Nile from 2020 Release Schedule

Disney has removed two upcoming films — Free Guy and Death on the Nile — from its 2020 release schedule. Both films were set to be released sometime in December, but no longer have an official release date attached. Free Guy, which stars Ryan Reynolds as a video game NPC who gains awareness of his life, was set to be released on December 11, 2020. However, presumably based on the continued weakness of the movie theater industry, Disney has removed Free Guy from its release calendar and has not specified a replacement date. The same applies to Kenneth Branagh’s Murder on the Orient Express sequel, Death on the Nile. The murder mystery movie was set to be released on December 18, 2020, but has also been removed from the 2020 release calendar without a replacement date. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/05/free-guy-official-trailer-2-2020-ryan-reynolds-taika-waititi"] The movie industry continues to roil under the COVID-19 pandemic. AMC, one of the largest theater chains, reported massive financial losses this past quarter. The failure of films like Tenet to bring people back to theaters have scared off most of 2020’s blockbusters into next year including Black Widow, Fast 9, Dune, and more. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/19/death-on-the-nile-official-trailer"] As theater-goers remain at home, the film industry has adapted somewhat. Films are being released digitally on streaming platforms like Disney+. Tenet is also heading to Blu-ray and digital media in December, a few months after its theater rollout. But for the time being, there doesn’t appear to be a way out of the movie theater crisis just yet. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt T.M. Kim is a reporter for IGN.

Tenet Coming to Blu-Ray in December

After its short theatrical run, Warner Bros. announced Christopher Nolan’s summer-ish blockbuster Tenet will be available to preorder on Blu-ray and digital beginning November 10th. It will be available to watch beginning on December 15th, just in time for the holidays. It’s been a rough year for the movie industry — and every industry, really — amid the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Tenet was supposed to be the big summer movie in 2020, originally scheduled to release July 17th. However, multiple delays pushed the mind-bending thriller back to its final release date of September 3rd, despite only about 65-70% of movie theaters open nationwide. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=tenet-images&captions=true"] Furthermore, the limited capacity allowed in movie theaters led to an abysmal opening weekend work Tenet, bringing in a paltry $20.2 million. And that’s including pricy private watch parties to see the film offered by some theaters around the country. So, the expedited release of Tenet on Blu-Ray and digital makes sense, as so many have avoided movie theaters and large public areas as a safety precaution this year. [ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/02/a-brief-history-of-time-in-christopher-nolan-movies] If you did happen to catch Tenet in theaters and are still trying to wrap your head around it, check out our explanation of the ending where we break down all the major elements of Nolan’s latest thriller. And, be sure to check out our spoiler-free review of Tenet if you’re still on the fence about it. Nintendo Raises Profit Predictions After Another Successful Quarter for Switch Sales

The Nintendo Switch continues to sell incredibly well according to the company’s latest financial briefing. The Switch has now surpassed lifetime sales for the NES, and Nintendo has updated its financial forecast to show a 50% profit increase by the time the fiscal year ends. Nintendo shipped 6.86 million Switch consoles in the previous fiscal quarter (for a total of 68.30 million units) which continues a strong trend for Nintendo since the start of the fiscal year. The continued success of the Switch has allowed Nintendo to raise its profit forecasts from 300 billion yen to 450 billion yen. An increase of 50%. In software, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has continued to sell well, becoming the second best-selling Nintendo Switch game at 26.04 million copies. It trails only Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and has overtaken games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Overall, Nintendo has sold 456.49 million games for Switch so far, more than Nintendo 3DS and Wii U life-to-date, respectively. Recent software releases have also done well, such as Super Mario 3D All-Stars which has sold 5.21 million units since its September release date. Scientists Discover Hell Planet That’s Basically Mustafar from Star Wars

Scientists have discovered a "hell planet" -- an infernal exoplanet covered in oceans of lava and where it rains rocks. Basically, it's Mustafar from Star Wars, the lava planet where Darth Vader lives. Designated K2-141b and located 200 light-years from us, the Earth-sized hellhole is among the most "extreme" exoplanets scientists have found. Lava planets are like this because they orbit so close to their host star. Details on K2-141b were published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. Scientists from McGill University, York University, and the Indian Institute of Science Education used computer simulations to predict weather and environmental conditions on K2-141b. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=star-wars-every-new-planet-in-the-disney-movies&captions=true"] The scorching hot planet is blasted by supersonic winds and has a magma ocean that is roughly 62 miles/100 km deep. McGill University also explained that two-thirds of K2-141b faces "perpetual daylight":

"K2-141b belongs to a subset of rocky planets that orbit very close to their star. This proximity keeps the exoplanet gravitationally locked in place, meaning the same side always faces the star. The night side experiences frigid temperatures of below -200 C. The day side of the exoplanet, at an estimated 3000 C, is hot enough to not only melt rocks but vaporize them as well, ultimately creating a thin atmosphere in some areas."

The planet's rock vapor atmosphere means it rains rocks. However, scientists do expect K2-141b's atmosphere and surface to evolve over time. "All rocky planets, including Earth, started off as molten worlds but then rapidly cooled and solidified. Lava planets give us a rare glimpse at this stage of planetary evolution,” said Professor Nicolas Cowan of the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. In addition to that climactic sequence from Revenge of the Sith, Mustafar also appears in The Rise of Skywalker in the opening sequence featuring Vader's grandson, Kylo Ren. As revealed in Rogue One, Mustafar is where Darth Vader lived in a castle.
