Veteran World of Warcraft Game Designer Leaves Blizzard, Says He’s Unhappy With the Game

A veteran World of Warcraft designer has left Blizzard, citing disillusionment with the current state of the game. As reported by PC Gamer, Blizzard's Chris Kaleiki spent 13 years at Blizzard before leaving, working mostly on class design and PVP, acting as the main designer for the Monk class. However, in a YouTube video posted to his personal channel, Kaleiki now says that he is "unhappy with the state of the (modern) game," which he describes as "muddled." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/29/world-of-warcraft-shadowlands-story-trailer"] Kaleiki's main argument centres around the lessening importance of guilds, as he believes that the focus has shifted to the story of the game's characters and the lore of the world, rather than the people who are actually playing it. "I think in a virtual world, in an MMO, really the players are the story." "We focus a lot, too much on the extrinsic, rather than the intrinsic gameplay. I feel there's too much focus on these progression systems," Kaleiki says "And instead, I think we should really focus on the core features of the game, like the guild system." Kaleiki is still rooting for his old team at Blizzard, and will be playing World of Warcraft: Shadowlands when it launches later this month on November 23. Here's Blizzard president J. Allen Brack delivering a fireside chat to the community about the new expansion. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jordan Oloman is a freelance writer for IGN. UK Retailer Cancels PS5 Launch Day Sales Amid Issues for Multiple Companies

PS5's second launch day – arriving in Europe and other territories today – has led to issues for many UK retailers, with websites crashing, early orders cancelled, and delivery companies being blamed for potential later deliveries. It's been bad enough, in fact, that Currys PC World has entirely cancelled its planned launch day sales. Sony has released new stock to UK retailers today, leading to a rush for purchases. Among them is major tech retailer Currys PC World, which, according to IGN sister site Downdetector.co.uk and the IGN UK Deals Twitter account has been suffering websaite problems all morning. In a blow to those who did manage to access the website, Currys also inadvertently opened its new orders too early this morning, and subsequently cancelled all PS5 purchases made before its intended opening time. After delaying its launch day sales, the retailer has now said that it will no longer sell new PS5s today. We've contacted the company for comment: It's been far from the only issue faced by retailers today. Other website crashes have been reported with John Lewis and Currys PC World are experiencing website outages. The IGN UK Deals Twitter account has also reported issues with the website for major retailer Game both facing their own issues, and the later seemingly delaying its release of new stock. Pre-orders seem to be more smooth, although Game suffered something of a snafu last night. The retailer emailed many waiting for their new console to tell them that courier service Yodel had reached capacity and may not be able to make launch day deliveries. "For reasons beyond the control of GAME," the email explained, "YODEL have informed us today (18th November) that not all orders due to be delivered by them will be delivered on release day." Yodel subsequently responded, saying that it in fact had no delays in its network. "We have been consistently clear on the order volumes we are able to carry for [Game's fulfilment buisness GFS] and it is deeply disappointing that Yodel's name has been incorrectly used in an email to customers on the status of orders." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/06/playstation-5-review"] The issue now appears to have been resolved. Per Eurogamer, Game emailed some customers again to explain that the "vast majority of orders will be delivered [today] with any outstanding orders being delivered on Friday." This writer has a PS5 pre-order currently on delivery from Game, carried by Yodel, that's due to arrive later today. It's unclear how the confusion began. It's been a bumpy ride for next-gen launch, from preorder chaos to last-minute delays - and it doesn't look like stock shortages are going to end anytime too soon. Far Cry 6 Release Date Seemingly Leaked

According to the Microsoft Store, Far Cry 6 will seemingly now be released on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia on May 25, 2021. Far Cry 6's previous release date was set for February 18, 2021, but was delayed to Ubisoft's Fiscal Year 2021-22 due to the impact of COVID-19, and this Microsoft listing may have confirmed the delay won't be too long. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/12/far-cry-6-reveal-trailer"] This date could obviously change and may be a placeholder, but the Microsoft Store has a history of revealing release dates a bit early for games like Immortals Fenyx Rising, Mafia: Definitive Edition, and Mafia 2: Definitive Edition. Far Cry 6 was revealed earlier this year and will star Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian's Giancarlo Esposito as Antón Castillo, the game's main villain. Castillo is preparing his son Diego for leadership of the totalitarian island state of Yara, and players will take on the role of Dani Rojas, a Yaran guerrilla revolutionary, who must put an end to the chaos. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=far-cry-6-images&captions=true"] Ubisoft recently shared details on how Far Cry 6 will run on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, and confirmed that the game will run at 4K / 60FPS on both next-gen consoles, and each one will offer a free upgrade from last-gen consoles. For more on Far Cry 6, read/watch out interview with Esposito, in which he discuses Anton's motives, his layered characterization, and reveals a bit more about Yara. Among Us Teases New Map With Boat Theme

Update - 11/18/20: As it turns out, the new map is actually an homage to the Toppat Clan Airship from the Henry Stickmin series, which was the last game created by Innersloth prior to Among Us. Original story follows... [poilib element="accentDivider"] Among Us will be getting a new boat-themed map soon, and it will be revealed at The Game Awards on December 10th. Innersloth, the team behind one of 2020’s biggest surprises, teased an image on the official Twitter account for Among Us. The new map is just one of many new updates headed to Among Us in addition to an account system and colorblind support in the near future, according to Innersloth’s roadmap for the game. A sequel to Among Us was in development until earlier this year when the developers decided to scrap the project and focus on the original game after its sudden overwhelming popularity. Among Us has had a big year, becoming one of the most-watched games on Twitch and one of the most-played games on Steam and mobile, despite being released over two years ago in 2018. Last month, U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez streamed Among Us for the first time, garnering an audience that peaked at over 430,000 viewers. [ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/21/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-streams-among-us-to-get-out-the-vote-ign-now] This Thursday, IGN will be hosting an Among Us Friendsgiving charity stream to raise money for No Kid Hungry just in time for the holiday season. IGN’s Sydnee Goodman and Akeem Lawanson will be joined by Rahul Kohli, Xavier Woods, Alanah Pearce, Jams and Elyse Willems, and more for an evening of not-so-friendly gameplay beginning at 6:00 PM PST. If you can’t make the stream but want to support our fundraiser, you can donate by visiting donate.IGN.com. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Editor's note: IGN incorrectly previously labeled the map as a boat, when it appears to be an airship reference to Henry Stickmin, IGN regrets the error. Wonder Woman 1984 Releasing in Theaters and HBO Max on Christmas Day

DC fans have something to look forward to this holiday season. Not only is Warner Bros. sticking to the film's current December 25 release date, Wonder Woman 1984 will also debut the same day on HBO Max. The news first broke via a leaked trailer for the Wonder Woman sequel, and now Warners has confirmed the news. According to their press release, WW84 will be available to stream on HBO Max for one month starting December 25 (and presumably will return to HBO Max later in 2021 after the home video release window). Warners also confirmed the movie will be released in select international theatrical markets beginning on December 16. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/22/wonder-woman-1984-official-trailer-2"] Director Patty Jenkins has also confirmed the news on Twitter: "At some point you have to choose to share any love and joy you have to give, over everything else. We love our movie as we love our fans, so we truly hope that our film brings a little bit of joy and reprieve to all of you this holiday season." This makes Wonder Woman 1984 one of a handful of major 2020 blockbusters to be released digitally rather than be pushed to 2021. Unlike Disney's Mulan, which was added to Disney+ as a "Premier Access" title for an additional fee, WW84 will be available to all HBO Max subscribers at no additional cost. This news comes as both studios and theater chains struggle with the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. WW84 has been delayed several times in 2020, along with numerous other film and TV projects. The movie was originally slated to open in theaters on November 1, 2019, before getting postponed to June 5, 2020, and then to August 14, 2020. The movie's release then shifted to October 2, but the pandemic caused Warner Bros. to rethink their plans yet again, with an announcement in September revealing that the movie had been pushed back to Christmas Day. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-delayed-movie-due-to-coronavirus-so-far&captions=true"] Variety previously reported Warners execs were considering the possibility of either another delay to Summer 2021 or a streaming release. However, director Patty Jenkins had remained adamant the sequel not skip theaters entirely, and this move appears to have been the best compromise for all involved. With Wonder Woman 1984 becoming arguably the most significant movie so far to opt for a simultaneous theatrical/streaming release, it remains to be seen if other studios will follow Warners' example. For now, check out IGN's review of HBO Max and learn how you can sign up for the streamer before Wonder Woman 1984 debuts in December. Demon’s Souls PS5 Almost Had an Easy Mode

Demon's Souls on PlayStation 5 almost had an easy mode before its developer, Bluepoint, ultimately decided to axe the idea. In a new report from The Washington Post, Bluepoint creative director, Gavin Moore, told WaPo in an email that an easy mode was in the cards, or at least, it was something contemplated by the studio behind the PS5 remake of the classic PlayStation 3 game. Despite being discussed internally by the team, it was ultimately something the developer decided not to further pursue and that's why an easy mode, or anything resembling an easy mode, is not present in the game today. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=9-demons-souls-tips-to-get-you-started&captions=true"] "This project remakes the work of another development team," Moore said. "While we've made some changes, our core driving mantra has always been to preserve the spirit and intent of the original creators. While we considered and discussed an easy mode, we ultimately decided it wasn't our place — merely being custodians for this amazing game — to add something that would fundamentally alter its balance." This coincides with earlier comments made by Moore in an interview with Game Informer back in October, as noted by WaPo. Moore told Game Informer that there are no difficulty options in Demon's Souls and that "there shouldn't be." He said the game's challenge was "fair." Despite the challenge that Moore believes is fair, the Demon's Souls remake from Bluepoint includes over 180 guide videos on the PS5 that can be accessed through the console's UI. Easy mode aside, Moore spoke to WaPo about the accessibility options the developers did choose to include in the game. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/12/demons-souls-remake-gameplay-ps5-vs-ps3-graphics-comparison"] "We've included an option to switch the audio from stereo to mono, with an added choice to play the sound either on the left or right," Moore said. "For those who experience color vision deficiency, we added the ability to edit the UI palette. Some players are sensitive to certain types of screen movement, so we've included a toggle for motion blur and camera shake." Moore also mentioned how the PS5's DualSense controller can help players identify incoming threats and other things, and that the controller's haptic feedback and adaptive trigger effects can be disabled. "While Demon's Souls at its heart is often about figuring out what to do next, or how to defeat a certain enemy, everyone comes into the experience with a different ability level, and we'd rather no one step away because they were too discouraged." Spider-Man: Miles Morales Names a Street After Chadwick Boseman

Update (11/21/20) - Reddit user RollieDell has discovered that a street in Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales was named after the late Chadwick Boseman. Screenshot_2020-11-21 r marvelstudios - I found another tribute to Chadwick Boseman is Spider-Man Miles Morales 42nd Street[...] Chadwick Way has replaced 42nd Street in Miles Morales for PS5, and can be found between 1st and 3rd Avenue. The number 42 has a lot of meaning for both Boseman, as he starred as Jackie Robinson in the film 42. Furthermore, the number 42 appears in both the original Miles Morales comic and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as an homage to Robinson. Original story follows. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Spider-Man: Miles Morales includes tributes to two Marvel titans - Chadwick Boseman and Stan Lee - with a particularly heartfelt message for the king of Wakanda. In the newest Marvel's Spider-Man game, players will find all kinds of easter eggs and references to the greater Marvel universe. But one tribute isn't hidden at all but is one that certainly pulls at the heartstrings.

Small Spoilers for Spider-Man: Miles Morales Credits Below.

After beating Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a message memorializing Chadwick Boseman, who played the Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, plays during the credits. It reads:
"In loving memory of a noble king, Chadwick Boseman. His honor, strength, and compassion will reverberate for generations to come. Wakanda forever."
Boseman died in August 2020 at the age of 43 due to complications with colon cancer. Boseman kept the diagnosis private for years while continuing to act in films like Black Panther, Da 5 Bloods, and more. Miles Morales also includes another memorial, an in-game one, for Marvel's Stan Lee. A bronze statue of the legendary comic book creator can be found in the game's open-world on the Upper West Side next to Mick's Diner. Lee, who died in 2018, made a cameo as the owner of Mick's diner in Marvel's Spider-Man for PS4. It was part of a long-running tradition of including Stan Lee in various Marvel projects over the years, whether it be in movies, books, or other. A tribute to Lee was also added to the Spider-Man PS4 credits post-launch. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/06/marvels-spider-man-miles-morales-review"] It's nice to see Miles Morales and the developers pay tribute to two Marvel greats, especially given how recent their deaths have been. Daisy Ridley Weighs In on Baby Yoda’s Egg-Eating Bad Behavior

While speaking with us over the phone to promote our exclusive debut of the Chaos Walking trailer, Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley revealed that she's an avid viewer of The Mandalorian -- and had some thoughts on the furor over Baby Yoda's -- OK, The Child's -- bad behavior in a recent episode of the Disney+ series. After a year of being beloved for his adorable ways, Baby Yoda found himself mired in a public scandal after he ate the Frog Lady's eggs in the Season 2 episode "The Passenger." Her eggs would be, once fertilized by her husband, the last of their line. Unfortunately, the impishly curious and perpetually hungry Child helped himself to a few of the eggs along the way -- even after Mando told him to stop. The Child's actions prompted a social media backlash, with some users believing he was helping extinguish an endangered species or that he was eating actual living creatures (which, to be sure, he has done). Vanity Fair's cheeky headline adeptly summed up the backlash: "Baby Yoda Canceled Amid Accusations of Genocide." And while the subsequent episode saw Baby Yoda get his karmic comeuppance after he's attacked by not one but two creatures -- and even makes nice with the Frog Lady's newborn -- the damage done to Baby Yoda's once-pristine public image might prove irreversible for some. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-mandalorian-season-2&captions=true"] With that in mind, we asked Star Wars veteran Daisy Ridley what she thought of the backlash and, echoing Vanity Fair's headline, the tongue-in-cheek call to cancel Baby Yoda. For her part, Mandalorian viewer Ridley remains on Team Baby Yoda. "Oh, cancel culture," Ridley began, with a chuckle. "Look, Mando’s gotta eat, Yoda's got to get strong. That's just that." "I think it's funny, because in a way, The Mandalorian, I feel, is slightly closer to [her upcoming film] Chaos Walking, in a way, because of the western feel of it," Ridley observed. But Ridley didn't find Baby Yoda's egg-eating cause for objection. "No, I'm like, 'Yoda, do your thing.' The creature [Frog Lady] got to be where she needed to be with the eggs. It's all good. It was beautiful." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/09/star-wars-daisy-ridley-reveals-rey-kenobi-was-almost-canon-ign-now"] Given the success of The Mandalorian and future plans for other Star Wars content on Disney Plus, would Ridley be open to exploring her character Rey's life post-Rise of Skywalker, perhaps in a streaming series of her own? Not really. "I think for me the beauty of Episode IX is it ends with such hope and such potential. I just feel like that was Rey's perfect ending. The big battle was in Episodes VII, VIII, and IX," Ridley said. "I think really she's probably running around the forest somewhere having a great time [following the events of The Rise of Skywalker]." She continued, "I feel totally, totally satisfied with how that story finished. I just don't know what else she could do that I didn't have to do. Also, there are so many amazing characters in Star Wars, that it's sort of an amazing thing. I was watching the new episode of Mandalorian, and it's just like the places it can go beyond even where it is now is so exciting." Star Wars Squadrons to Add Fan-Requested B-Wing, TIE Defender

Star Wars Squadrons will receive a new map this month and two new starfighters in December. EA Motives' latest blog post details two new updates in the pipeline for Star Wars Squadrons following its release last month. The first update will go live on November 25 and will see four new starfighter components added to the game and a new map added to the rotation. The new map, Fostar Haven, will be familiar to those who have played through the game's story as it's the first place you visit in the game. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=11-goofiest-silliest-weirdest-dumbest-star-wars-video-games&captions=true"] "A fan-favorite location from the single-player story and one we've seen requested for multiplayer is Fostar Haven from the game's first prologue mission," the blog post reads. "In this update, the map will be added to Fleet Battles and the Dogfight mode." Motive says this map has been updated from its story mode counterpart to provide a new experience that will "fit well with the other six maps" in the game's multiplayer modes. Star Wars Squadrons: Fostar Haven Four new components will be added to the game alongside Fostar Haven. The fighter and bomber starships will get the new Boost Extension Kit, which gives starfighters a full rechargeable boost, while fighters and interceptors will be getting Ion Rockets, which are rockets that move at half the speed of standard rockets, but can be used at the same time as other components. Bomber and fighter starships will also be receiving Prototype Piercing Torpedos that provide new ways for players to destroy enemy flagship subsystems before shields have been completely disabled. The final component coming to the game this month, the Anti-Material Rocket Turret, is for the game's two support ships, the U-Wing and the TIE Reaper. This component is perfect for taking down flagship subsystems, capital ships, and turrets, according to Motive. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/06/star-wars-squadrons-multiplayer-review"] The next update for the game goes live in December and it will bring with it two new starfighters: the B-Wing and the TIE Defender, both of which have been heavily requested by fans. The B-Wing will be categorized as a bomber while the TIE Defender will be categorized as a fighter. What makes these two ships special, other than their unique designs, is the B-Wing's gyro-cockpit and swiveling wings, and the TIE Defender's shields, which aren't present in the Galactic Empire's other fighter ships. Star Wars Squadrons: B-Wing and TIE Defender Custom Matches are the final piece of the December update and they'll allow one to five players, per side, across two teams play on any of the maps in both Dogfight and Fleet Battles with any restrictions and modifiers they'd like. The news of these updates comes weeks after Motive said it has no future plans for additional content to be added to the game.
