RockLove Reveals New Marvel Collection in Exclusive First Look

RockLove Jewelry has revealed their newest collection in an exclusive announcement with IGN, and the collaboration is with none other than Marvel. The collection features pieces from the beloved superheroes of Captain America, Spider-Man, and Thor, consisting of seven separate jewelry pieces. CEO and Designer of RockLove, Allison Cimino, spoke with IGN about the new additions to their other Marvel lines (consisting of Black Panther and Captain Marvel) including where the inspiration came from, the empowerment she hopes fans will feel from the pieces, and even sharing a tease for more upcoming Marvel collabs she's working on. The Marvel X RockLove collection includes:
  • Thor Winged Ring: $60 USD
  • Thor Winged Ear Climbers: $135 USD
  • Captain America Shield Necklace: $85 USD
  • Captain America Shield Earrings: $95 USD
  • Spider-Man Web Necklace: $65 USD
  • Spider-Man Web Earrings: $60 USD
  • Spider-Man Web Ring: $55 USD
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=exclusive-marvel-x-rocklove-collection-first-look-gallery&captions=true"] All the new pieces with full descriptions can be viewed in the gallery above. In terms of the inspiration behind the release, Cimino explained that she specifically wanted to build off the previous Marvel lines with Black Panther and Captain Marvel, expanding into further classic comic book characters. "Each character is fearless in the face of adversity and it is their moral desire to do good that each piece is built upon," Cimino said. "It’s not their physical strength that makes them Earth’s Mightiest, it’s their inner strength that pushes them forward. By wearing their signature tools, I hope the collection acts as a manifestation of personal strength for fans around the world." Cimino continued about the intention of the collection, saying, "With this release I wanted to portray the power of these iconic characters through the tools that lend themselves to their cause – Captain America’s shield, Spider-Man’s webs, and Thor’s helmet. Handcrafted in sterling silver, the pieces feature each hero’s individual iconography in a new and elegant way. I chose to launch all three at once as a treat to fans and, after all, who can pick just one." [caption id="attachment_241553" align="alignnone" width="720"]Captain America 08142020 (7 of 20) Marvel X RockLove Captain America Shield Necklace at $85. Accented by red, white, and blue hand-painted premium enamel, the reverse of the pendant is cutout to reveal an ingeniously mounted crystal, hovering between stars.[/caption] When it comes to the specific designs, Cimino said her challenge was designing pieces that were unique from all of the other merchandise out there, while still being creative, yet refined for RockLove. "The goal with these three sets was to design sophisticated jewelry representative of each character, without being on-the-nose." Cimino is already designing more Marvel X RockLove pieces, and she gave a hint to one we can expect this year yet – if you can solve the riddle. "Right now I am putting pencil to paper to design future iterations of Marvel X RockLove, both for new movies and classic characters, but can’t divulge too much more on those releases quite yet. What I can say is that Marvel fans who are tricksters at heart will see a special collection that speaks to them before the year is over." [caption id="attachment_241553" align="alignnone" width="720"]Thor 09212020 (3 of 1) Cropped Marvel X RockLove Thor Winged Ear Climbers at $135 and Thor Winged Ring at $60. Both pieces are carved in sterling silver and are inspired by Thor's helmet from the classic comic books.[/caption] One of the pieces that stands out the most, the Thor Winged Ear Climbers, are reminiscent of RockLoves prior collection with Disney, where Cimino created Maleficent Dragon Wing Earrings (that have since sold out), except the Thor earrings face upward and literally climb up the entire ear – specifically to look like battle armor. "Inspired by the Wings on classic comic Thor’s helmet, they add dramatic flair to any look and lend themselves to both cosplay and everyday wear," Cimino said. "Fans will be excited to see more ear climbers coming soon in an upcoming DC Comics Collection, so keep an eye out on Instagram at @RockLoveJewelry for more." The Marvel X RockLove pieces will be available for purchase on October 8 at 9am PT at RockLove.com during the kick off of New York Comic Con. A preview of the pieces seen here will be published on RockLove's website beginning October 2 at 9am PT. Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin – Check Out 13 Minutes of Farming and Fighting

Releasing this November on Steam, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is a "Japanese-style action RPG" primarily developed by just two people. Two months ahead of the game's release, IGN Japan got an exclusive hands-on with Sakuna's fast-paced action and detailed rice farming techniques – check out our video for 13 minutes of gameplay: [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/02/sakuna-of-rice-and-ruin-13-minutes-of-gameplay"] IGN Japan asked Naru and Koichi of indie developer Edelweiss for more details on the team's latest project, which has been more than five years in the making. "Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin began as a sequel to Fairy Bloom Freesia," Naru said, referring to an indie action title originally released in 2011, "It was abandoned due to technological and developmental problems at the time. I've always wanted to make it since then." Development of the game has "exceeded five years" but he has been "grateful" that publisher Marvelous "never meddled with the game's content". Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is a Japanese game by nature of its creators, but it is also a distinctly “Japanese” Japanese game based on its setting, presentation and character design, featuring divine beings and monsters. "At the time, there weren't many Japanese-style high-end consumer games, so I thought maybe if we made such a game in 3D, it would be seen as distinct," Naru said, noting that in the time it took to make his game, big titles like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Ghosts of Tsushima have found mainstream success. "When those games came out I was all, 'Whoa, these are super incredible!', but since Sakuna is a Japanese-style anime fantasy, it's not really competing with those games." Even the action has a Japanese flavor thanks to the heroine's fashion sense: Sakuna wears a special kind of kimono called a hagoromono. "The hagoromono has been around since the beginning of the project," Naru said. "It pulls enemies closer, or lets her approach them in a flash. It's also fun for changing directions while in mid-air." As seen in our exclusive gameplay footage embedded above, the hagoromono is also useful outside of combat as a kind of grappling hook. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=sakuna-of-rice-and-ruin-screenshots&captions=true"] Speaking of Japanese flavor, a major element in this game (and in the title) is rice. From plowing the field to planting the rice, then harvesting and washing it, nearly every aspect of growing and preparing rice is included in Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin. "Originally, the game was supposed to incorporate building a village instead of rice cultivation," Koichi said, "and that's what was written into the plot." He noted that a lot of video games at the time already featured that sort of mechanic, including "smartphone and browser games" which they wanted to differentiate their game from, hence the later change. Rice cultivation isn't just in the game for show, it's integral to developing Sakuna as a character. Growing and eating rice helps her level up, a feature that Naru said "aids players who aren't good at action games". However, he warned that players cannot spend all their time farming to overlevel as "it gets harder and harder" with each crop. Conversely, players cannot choose to shun the farmwork and build all their strength on the battlefield. "As time goes by, you will definitely grow rice." Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is the largest game Edelweiss has created; Naru estimated that it takes "about 25 to 35 hours" to clear based on playtesting, even though when the project began "it was supposed to be a game that would end in about 10 hours". The game will launch on November 10 fully voiced in both Japanese and English. With his parting words, Naru said, "It's a game that deals with the unfamiliar theme of rice farming, but I hope overseas fans enjoy it.” [poilib element="accentDivider"]

Robert Zemeckis’ The Witches: First Trailer and Images Released [Updated]

UPDATE: Warner Bros. has released the first official trailer for Robert Zemeckis' adaptation of Roald Dahl's The Witches, together with nine first-look images. The trailer recounts the heartwarming tale of a brave young child, who stumbles upon a secret coven of witches and, with the help of his loving grandma, tries to stop their evil plan to turn all the world's children into mice. The footage starts out being told from the perspective of the young orphaned boy, Bruno, being played by Jahzir Bruno, with adult narration from Chris Rock. In late 1967, Bruno goes to live with his grandma in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis. Together, they encounter some deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches, so she wisely whisks her grandson away to an opulent seaside resort. Regrettably, they arrive at precisely the same time as the world's Grand High Witch and her fellow cronies from around the globe. Watch the wickedly funny first trailer for the reimagined version of The Witches below: [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/02/roald-dahls-the-witches-official-trailer-2020-anne-hathaway-octavia-spencer"] As a further treat, the studio released a batch of first-look images for the family event film of the season, which is premiering exclusively in the U.S. on HBO Max on October 22. The photos offer us a closer look at the fun cast of characters, particularly Anne Hathaway's sly, menacing Grand High Witch, Stanley Tucci's Hotel Manager, and Octavia Spencer's Grandmother. Kirby Fighters 2 Review – 2 Kirby 2 Furious

Kirby Fighters 2 has somewhat of an adorable identity crisis on its puffy, pink hands. It initially comes across as a gateway fighting game, an entry step even before the widely-loved Super Smash Bros. series. Approachable in both controls and tone, Kirby Fighters 2 is a mostly pleasant brawler bursting with charm. A slender content offering and some bizarre difficult spikes notwithstanding, Kirby's latest spinoff is a capable combatant.

There are no stage knockouts or lives here, just a scrap until someone gets knocked out. Also, most of the characters are Kirby--well, a variety of Kirbys equipped with different copy abilities, alongside some other familiar characters who aren't Kirby to round out the roster. Among the pink puffballs of pain are series classics such as the Link-wannabe Sword Kirby, Artist Kirby who draws minions to cause damage, and Bomb Kirby, who does exactly what you think. My personal favourite is Wrestler Kirby, thanks to his stylish little lucha libre-inspired mask and utterly brutal throws.

Nvidia RTX 3070 Delayed Until the End of October

Nvidia's RTX 3070 graphics card has been delayed until the end of October in order to ensure there's enough stock to meet demand. Originally scheduled to launch on October 15, the graphics card manufacturer has shifted its release date to October 29, most likely in light of the demand for previous 3000 series cards. Nvidia recently issued a statement to apologize for the launch of the RTX 3080, which caused record traffic at many sites and sold out very quickly. The news was revealed on the Nvidia blog, where a statement was issued on the delay, and what this means for the availability of the graphics card. "We've heard from many of you that there should be more cards available on launch day. To help make that happen, we are updating the availability date to Thursday, October 29th." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/16/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-founders-edition-review"] Nvidia acknowledges that this may be disappointing for fans eager to get their hands on the new Ampere tech as soon as possible, but added that it was necessary to help meet demand. "This shift will help our global partners get more graphics cards into the hands of gamers on launch day," the statement reads. At $499/£469, it's the cheapest card in the new range, but don't let that suggest that its specs aren't something to shout about. According to Nvidia, the RTX 3070 is more powerful than the RTX 2080 Ti, which was the most powerful graphics card on the market ahead of the 3000 series launch. For all the specs, price and release date details for Nvidia's new range of GPU's, check out this handy explainer. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jordan Oloman is a freelance writer for IGN. Minecraft’s Steve In Smash Bros. May Have Been in Negotiation for 5 Years

Negotiations to get Minecraft's Steve into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate may have been ongoing for "at least" five years. Mojang co-founder Daniel Kaplan revealed the news on Twitter. Kaplan first asked his followers to guess when discussions started about the character coming to Nintendo's Smash Bros, which prompted many teasing replies. Eventually, he confirmed in a reply that talks started "at least five" years ago. In a follow-up, Kaplan added that he has "no idea when implementation started," most likely due to the fact he left Mojang in 2017 to work at Coffee Stain Publishing. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/01/super-smash-bros-ultimate-minecraft-reveal-trailer"] If you missed the news, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai revealed on Thursday that the game's next DLC characters will be Minecraft's Steve, Alex, Zombie and Enderman. An in-depth look at how these characters will work in-game is coming on October 3, where a release date for the characters will also be revealed. Twitter suffered a brief outage when the news dropped, which we're sure is just a coincidence... A blog post on the official Minecraft website offers some more details on the deal. The game's chief creative officer Jens 'Jeb' Bergensten commented that getting Minecraft characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate "is the result of an amazing collaboration with Nintendo." "As fans of the series and avid players at our studios, we couldn’t be more excited to see Minecraft join Smash’s already legendary lineup of characters.” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=super-smash-bros-ultimate-minecraft-dlc-fighters-screenshots&captions=true"] [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jordan Oloman is a freelance writer for IGN. Here’s How You Shouldn’t Play With Your Real-Life Mario Kart

The first previews for Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit are out, and IGN got a chance to check it out early and ask a few questions to Nintendo. As a toy/video game hybrid, there are a lot of questions on what Mario Kart Live can do, but one thing it can’t — or at least isn't recommended — is be driven outside. Firstly, Mario Kart Live is a new toy/video game hybrid where you build a race track in your living rooms and then drive a physical, remote-controlled kart through this track using your Nintendo Switch. A camera on the RC kart will transform your living room into a virtual Mario Kart track. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=39-mario-kart-live-home-circuit-gameplay-images&captions=true"] After a short, virtual demo where IGN saw the Mario Kart Live kart driven on different terrains like carpet and wooden floors, we asked what conditions the RC car can be driven in outside. To which Nintendo responded, “We do not recommend outside use.” Nintendo says that while the RC kart is durable enough to handle obstacles like table legs, the RC kart will not fare as well if hit from above by an object, nor does Nintendo recommend driving the kart off a ramp. “Overall though, the one thing you’d want to look out for is anything falling on top of the kart itself,” Nintendo says. “Anything running into a table leg or object should be okay,” but Nintendo flatly says “No ramps.” Nintendo doesn’t even recommend a flat tiled backyard area. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/03/mario-kart-live-home-circuit-official-trailer"] Nintendo is presumably just looking out for customers who put down a hefty $100 for Mario Kart Live. Outdoor driving opens the kart to a variety of dangers that aren’t present in controlled, indoor environments. But if Nintendo recommends not taking the kart outside, we’ll issue the same recommendation. Check out our full Mario Kart Live preview and our new screenshots in the gallery above. The Internet Thinks Minecraft in Smash Bros. Crashed Twitter

This morning Nintendo announced the newest DLC character joining the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster, and it’s none other than Minecraft Steve (and friends). Coincidentally, Twitter suffered a brief outage right after Minecraft Steve was announced, and while Twitter wouldn’t confirm the reason for the outage fans believe the two are related.

At 7 am PT, Nintendo revealed the newest character joining the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighters list. According to Down Detector, Twitter experienced an outage two minutes later. When IGN reached out to Twitter to inquire about the cause of the outage, Twitter declined to confirm the cause of the outage. Although Twitter did confirm there was a short outage. twitter down This hasn’t stopped Twitter users from claiming that the two events are related. After all, a lot of people were online to see the new character for Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Minecraft Steve has been a long-rumored, though unconventional, character. When Steve was finally revealed as the next character, the reaction online was swift and immediate.   Again, neither IGN nor Twitter can confirm the reason for the 7 am disruption to Twitter that followed the new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC news. And Twitter users are free to speculate on the reasons for themselves. We’re just pointing out a funny coincidence. Minecraft Steve, Alex, Zombie, and Enderman will be released as upcoming DLC fighters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. They are part of the second Challenger Pack in Fighters Pass Vol. 2 following Arms’ Min-Min. You can see their announcement and move sets in the trailer below. Crash Bandicoot 4 Review – Bandicoots Are Forever

The increasingly popular reboot-sequel is a hard needle to thread. You have to create a game that hews close enough to the original to make nostalgic fans happy, while modernizing and innovating enough to resonate with new players. Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time balances the two effortlessly. It impeccably preserves the vibrant look and feel of the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy, while integrating new ideas and platforming possibilities. And like the original Crash games, the hybrid of Crash's old and new ideas will test your platforming skills in interesting new ways.

Like its groan-inducing dad-joke of a subtitle says, Crash 4 is about time… travel. When the villains of Crash's past open an interdimensional portal, Crash and Coco have to collect a set of quantum masks in order to set things right. As with past Crash games, small exchanges in cutscenes between levels do a lot of narrative legwork. It's not much of a "story" per se, but Crash and his friends' charm fills in the gaps and makes you care enough to follow along.

Crash 4's time-traveling story takes you to all sorts of times and places, including dinosaur-infested jungles, futuristic cities full of flying cars, and sunken pirate ships. Every place you go feels lush, full of color and detail, with a painterly quality that's simply wonderful to run through. My favorite is the Mardi Gras world, where Crash and Spyro balloons float in the background as you hop over neon-colored flames and trumpet valves. Occasionally, you'll run through an area and the camera will pull back to let you take in the scenery. The environments never failed to impress me with their visual depth.
