The Batman Delayed to 2022, The Matrix 4 Moved Up to 2021
The Batman has been delayed from October 1, 2021 to March 4, 2022, while Matrix 4 has been moved up from its April 1, 2022 release date to December 22, 2021.
As reported by Variety, The Batman was one of certain movies delayed by Warner Bros. that also include The Flash and Shazam 2. The Flash was delayed from its June 2, 2022 date to November 4, 2022, while Shazam 2 will debut in theaters on June 2, 2023 instead of its original date of November 4, 2022.

This news also follows the delay of Denis Villeneuve's Dune remake from December 18, 2020 to October 1, 2021, taking the spot previously held by The Batman, which stars Robert Pattinson and is being directed by Matt Reeves.
Warner Bros. has also shifted two yet-to-be announced films scheduled for June 3, 2022 and August 5, 2022, and has taken Black Adam (set for December 22, 2021) and Minecraft (set for March 3, 2022) off the release calendar.
The Batman's delay is another bump in the road for the production that was recently put on hold due to Robert Pattinson's quarantine after allegedly being diagnosed with COVID-19.

The Batman received its first trailer at DC FanDome, and it gave us a glimpse of a younger Batman working to take down a masked serial killer and deal with a vast conspiracy linking some of the most powerful families in Gotham.
As for The Matrix 4, while it will see the return of characters like Keanu Reeves' Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss' Trinity, it looks like Laurence Fishburne won't be back as Morpheus.

Game of Thrones Prequel House of the Dragon Casts Major Role
The Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, has announced that Paddy Considine will play King Viserys Targaryen.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Considine will play the fifth Targaryan king on the Iron Throne and revealed a potential plot detail for the prequel spinoff.
According to the synopsis for the character:
“King Viserys Targaryen is chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. A warm, kind, and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy. But good men do not necessarily make for great kings.”[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=game-of-thrones-every-major-characters-first-and-last-appearance&captions=true"] House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood, a chronicle of House Targaryen. For Game of Thrones fans, the main series primarily follows Daenerys Targaryen as she attempts to restore her house to the Iron Throne after they were deposed in Robert's Rebellion. He is also the first Viserys in the Targaryen family, and fans will note that Daenerys' brother is Viserys III. House of the Dragon is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and appears to focus primarily on the great Targaryan house of Dragonstone. The history of the family is tumultuous, and Martin recommends fans to pick up his anthologies Dangerous Women and Rogues for some idea of what the prequel will focus on. There is also the matter of who succeeds Viserys I's throne which kickstarts the Dance of the Dragons civil war between the different branches of the Targaryen house. Considine is known for his roles in films like Hot Fuzz, The Girl With All the Gifts, and Peaky Blinders. House of the Dragon is slated to premiere sometime in 2022. Egypt Unveils 59 Ancient Mummies From 2,600 Years Ago
Egypt has unearthed 59 ancient mummies from 2,600 years ago and fortunately for Brendan Fraser, no curse has been detected.
Egypt's Tourism and Antiquities Minister, Khalid el-Anany, announced on October 3 that a team of archaeologists discovered dozens of coffins in a necropolis south of Cairo, according to a report from The Washington Post. This led to the discovery of 59 sealed sarcophagi, many of which had mummies inside. It was determined that these sarcophagi were buried more than 2,600 years ago.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-25-best-90s-movies&captions=true"]
"I consider this the beginning of a big discovery," el-Anany said.
That's because el-Anany said this discovery was just the first of many that he believes will lead to even more sarcophagi from the area. As if Brendan Fraser, who played famed adventurer and tomb raider Rick O'Connell in 1999's The Mummy, wasn't already sweating over what might lie within, one of the 59 sarcophagi was opened at a press conference on October 3 to reveal the mummy inside. Fortunately, no curses were released and Imhotep and his army of undead were nowhere to be found.
The mummies were discovered in Saqqara, which is home to 11 pyramids. These sarcophagi were specifically discovered in the Step Pyramid. The burial sites in Saqqara date back to the 1st Dynasty, which ranges from 2921 B.C. to 2770 B.C.E., and to the Coptic period, which ranges from 395 to 492 C.E.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/07/19/mysterious-black-sarcophagus-finally-opened-in-egypt"]
Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mostafa Waziri, told reporters that the coffins likely belonged to priests and other elite figures of the Pharaonic Late period, which ranges from 664 to 525 B.C.E. These coffins were found with 28 statues of Ptah-Soker, the main god of the Saqqara necropolis, and a 35cm bronze statue of Nefertum, god of the lotus blossom and perfume.
El-Anany said these 59 coffins will join 30 ancient wooden coffins discovered earlier this month in Luxor and all of them will be showcased at the Grand Egyptian Museum currently under construction near the Giza Pyramids.

Dune Remake Delayed to 2021
Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming Dune remake has been delayed and will now release on October 1, 2021. It was originally scheduled for release December 18, 2020.
As reported by Variety, the delay is likely to separate Dune from the recently delayed Wonder Woman 1984, as the two would've premiered just a week apart from each other.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=dune-movie-images&captions=true"]
Dune joins a long list of films playing musical chairs with release dates this year, largely in part due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that has thrown a wrench in many studios' production plans.
It's worth noting that The Batman's tentative release date is also October 1, 2021, so expect that shift to happen at some point in the near future, too.
[ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/09/dune-trailer-breakdown-ign-rewind-theater]
Based on Frank Herbert's best-selling 1965 novel, Dune is a sci-fi epic depicting the power struggle for the planet Arrakis. The star-studded cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, and more. Oh, and a bunch of giant sandworms that took over a year to design.
Villeneuve is no stranger to science fiction, having directed Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival, and his adaptation of Dune will mark one of his largest undertakings yet. He confirmed the story will be spread across two films because Herbert's world is "too complex" to fit into a single movie.
Here's to hoping Dune is worth its weight in spice when it finally launches next year.
