Netflix Is Raising Its Prices Again

Netflix announced on Thursday that it is raising prices for its standard plan and premium plan for U.S. consumers. The two-stream HD Standard plan will increase from $12.99 to $13.99 while the four-stream 4K Premium plan is raising from $15.99 a month to $17.99. The one-stream SD plan will remain priced at $8.99 a month. All new subscribers will pay this price while current subscribers will see the price increase over the next few months, according to a Netflix representative who spoke to Variety. An email will be sent to all subscribers notifying them of the increase, and a notification will appear within the Netflix app 30 days before the price takes effect from that user's account. Netflix last raised their prices in January 2019. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/02/new-to-netflix-for-october-2020"] “We understand people have more entertainment choices than ever and we’re committed to delivering an even better experience for our members,” the Netflix representative said in a statement. “We’re updating our prices so that we can continue to offer more variety of TV shows and films — in addition to our great fall lineup. As always we offer a range of plans so that people can pick a price that works best for their budget.” The news comes about a week after Netflix revealed that five of their recent original movies are among their biggest ever, which is a sign that Netflix is doing alright with new streaming competitors like Disney+, Peacock, and HBO Max. Netflix also has recognizable properties like an animated Resident Evil series, a live-action Assassin's Creed series, a live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series and new seasons of Cobra Kai to entice viewers. Netflix also recently announced it will expand its anime offerings. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=netflix-spotlight-november-2020&captions=true"] Netflix may be doing well enough to raise prices but they are prone to cancellations. Here's why Netflix cancels shows so quickly now, but also check out why Netflix is the best place for video game adaptations. And here's everything coming to Netflix in November 2020, including The Crown season 4 and The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two. Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods Part 1 Review

Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods Part 1 feels like a thrilling action movie occasionally interrupted by a game of I Spy. You want to keep watching John Wick’s balletic slaughter but your impertinent host won’t unpause the Blu-ray until you spot the ficus in the background.

It’s also tough as nails. If you haven't played Doom Eternal since it launched back in March, the first moments of its new DLC, The Ancient Gods Part 1, will feel like a kick in the teeth--n a good way, mostly. Once you get back in the demon-slaying swing of things, it's exciting to have more high-level Doom Eternal to play, unconstrained by the need to reintroduce you to the basics. But, still: Be ready.

The Ancient Gods Part 1 picks up right where Eternal left off. After an opening "previously on" text screen and a cutscene that will remind you that Doom Eternal focused way too much on story and Proper Noun-riddled lore, the DLC tosses you back into the action. Your entire roster of weapons--save the Crucible, that overpowered glowing red sword Doom Guy scored toward the end of the vanilla game--is unlocked right from the start. The Ancient Gods also throws the big bads of Eternal's late-game roster at you right out of the gate. I had my first fight with a Marauder less than an hour in.

Justice League: Ray Fisher Claims Joss Whedon Digitally Changed an Actor’s Skin Tone

Justice League star Ray Fisher has elaborated about his previous allegations against director Joss Whedon, telling Forbes Whedon digitally altered the skin tone of an actor of color during postproduction and accusing the director of purposely erasing several characters of color, including Kiersey Clemons' Iris West, Zheng Kai's Ryan Choi and Karen Bryson's Ellinore Stone. “What set my soul on fire and forced me to speak out about Joss Whedon this summer was my becoming informed that Joss had ordered that the complexion of an actor of color be changed in post-production because he didn’t like the color of their skin tone,” Fisher told Forbes. “Man, with everything 2020’s been, that was the tipping point for me.” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=justice-league-snyder-cut-all-the-known-differences-from-the-theatrical-version&captions=true"] According to Fisher, that decision was indicative of a generally toxic and racially charged working environment, again naming former Warner Bros. executives Geoff Johns and Jon Berg as being complicit, along with current Warners chairman Toby Emmerich. “Prior to Justice League’s reshoot process, blatantly racist conversations were had and entertained—on multiple occasions—by former and current top level executives at Warner Bros. Pictures,” Fisher said. “Decision-makers that participated in those racist conversations were Geoff Johns, Jon Berg, and current Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich.” Fisher continued, “Race was just one of the issues with the reshoot process. There were massive blowups, threats, coercion, taunting, unsafe work conditions, belittling, and gaslighting like you wouldn’t believe.” Fisher's comments are the latest development in an increasingly heated feud between the actor and WarnerMedia. Fisher first spoke out in June 2020, retracting his earlier praise for Whedon made during the marketing campaign for Justice League. The following month, Fisher accused Whedon of fostering a toxic and hostile environment on-set, a pattern he claimed was enabled by Johns and Berg. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/21/the-true-story-behind-the-snyder-cut"] WarnerMedia opened an official third-party investigation into Fisher's claims in August. In September, the studio revealed Fisher has declined to speak to their investigator, though Fisher fired back and accused the investigation of not being truly independent. Despite this feud, Fisher is reprising his role as Cyborg and participating in reshoots for Zack's Snyder's Justice League, which will debut as a four-part limited series on HBO Max in 2021. The Snyder Cut will presumably restore the missing characters Fisher references above, and we also know both Joe Manganiello's Deathstroke and Jared Leto's Joker are being added to the Snyder Cut. Fisher was reportedly also offered a cameo role in 2022's The Flash movie, though the actor seemingly has no interest in participating in that project. Fisher even described the announcement of Ben Affleck's Batman appearing in The Flash as a well-timed PR stunt. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jesse is a mild-mannered staff writer for IGN. Matthew McConaughey Wanted to Play Hulk But Claims Marvel Passed on Him

In a new interview, Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey said Marvel rejected him when he asked to play the Hulk. Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via /Film) starting at the 39:00 mark, McConaughey and host Josh Horowitz get on the topic of the '70s Hulk TV series starring Lou Ferrigno when Horowitz notes to McConaughey that the actor never got the chance to play the Hulk. McConaughey replied that he was personally up for it and even had communication with Marvel at one point. "They said, 'No, thank you,'" McConaughey said. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=marvel-cinematic-universe-every-upcoming-movie-and-tv-show&captions=true"] It wasn't made clear at what point McConaughey had the conversation with Marvel. Mark Ruffalo was announced to be the new live-action Hulk actor at Comic-Con 2010 and he has had the role ever since. He replaced Edward Norton, who starred in the only solo Hulk movie in the MCU, The Incredible Hulk, in 2008. During the podcast conversation, McConaughey amused about the music from the Ferrigno show and the "big, steel oxygen tanks." "Remember, every episode, did he throw one of those big, steel oxygen tanks," McConaughey said chuckling. "They showed up in every scene, didn't they?" After a full laugh, McConaughey said, "Lou Ferrigno, thank you." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=a-visual-history-of-hulk&captions=true"] Ferrigno used to provide his voice for the Hulk in the MCU starting in the 2008 solo movie and up through the second Avengers movie. Ruffalo took over the voice starting with Thor: Ragnarok, but he paid credit to Ferrigno during press for the Thor sequel. “That’s who I watched playing the Hulk growing up," Ruffalo said to Yahoo in 2017. "[The voice is] definitely a nod to you, Lou. You influenced that.” Ferrigno criticized the Hulk in Ragnarok for having too much dialogue when he's hulking out. Ferrigno also took issue with the Hulk in Avengers: Endgame and said the Hulk wasn't "hideous" enough. Imagine what Ferrigno would have said if McConaughey was used for the Hulk's motion capture. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/22/the-gentlemen-review"] As for the future of the Hulk in the MCU, Ruffalo said there's been conversations about showing up in the She-Hulk series on Disney+. McConaughey appeared earlier this year in theaters in The Gentlemen from director Guy Ritchie. IGN's review of The Gentlemen said, "there’s no high to be found from this new Guy Ritchie joint" and gave the movie a 4 out of 10. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/09/new-batwoman-actress-has-been-cast"] Interestingly, the network appears to be staggering the debuts of the various Arrowverse series more than usual. Black Lightning: Season 4 will debut on Monday, February 8 at 9pm ET/PT. The Flash: Season 7 and Superman & Lois: Season 1 will then follow on Tuesday, February 23 at 8pm and 9pm, respectively. Other notable premiere dates include Riverdale: Season 5 and Nancy Drew: Season 2 on Wednesday, January 20 and the series premiere of the Jared Padalecki-starring Walker on Thursday, January 21. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=fall-tv-preview-2020-new-and-returning-shows-to-watch&captions=true"] With Batwoman having recently resumed production, we finally got our first look at Leslie's character Ryan Wilder in her redesigned Batsuit. Showrunner Caroline Dries has said Rose's Kate Kane won't be killed off, but instead her mysterious disappearance will be one of the main plot threads of the revamped Season 2. The CW previously revealed the next Arrowverse crossover will link Batwoman and Superman & Lois. However, that news came before Rose departed the series, and it's unclear if those plans have changed As for The Flash, we saw the first Season 7 trailer at DC FanDome. While the series was forced to suspend production before Season 6 was completed, the Season 7 premiere will consist largely of footage shot for the canceled Season 6, Episode 20. Insidious 5: Patrick Wilson Back to Star, Will Make His Directorial Debut

Announced during the first ever BlumFest, Patrick Wilson will star in and make his directorial debut with Insidious 5. The fifth installment of Insidious will see Wilson return to the franchise in a big way. He was last seen in a leading role in Insidious: Chapter 2, although his character appeared in smaller doses in the third and fourth installments like the archival footage of him shown in Insidious: The Last Key. He'll return to the franchise as the leading star, alongside Ty Simpkins, and as director of the film, as reported by Deadline. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-25-best-horror-movies&captions=true"] "I'm honored and thrilled to be at the helm of the next Insidious installment, which will provide an amazing chance to unpack everything the Lamberts went through a decade ago, as well as deal with the consequences of their choices," Wilson said. "Directing the movie is both professionally and personally a full circle moment for me, and I am extremely grateful to be entrusted in continuing to tell this frightening and haunting story." The fifth Insidious movie will pick up with the Lamberts 10 years after Insidious: The Last Key, when Simpkins' character, Dalton, begins college. Not much else is known about the story, which will feature a script written by Scott Teems based on a story by franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell. Whannell will produce the film alongside fellow franchise co-creator, James Wan, and Oren Peli. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Steven Schneider will serve as executive producers for this Blumhouse movie that will be distributed by Sony. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/01/03/insidious-the-last-key-review"] "One of the primary reasons the interest and appetite from fans has lasted for Insidious is because the people involved in the first film have stayed involved and kept it vital, interesting, and good," Blumhouse producer, Jason Blum, said. "I'm so grateful to our collaborators on the franchise."
