Diana Rigg, Star of Game of Thrones and Bond Girl, Dies at 82

Dame Diana Rigg, who played Lady Olenna Tyrell in Game of Thrones and Tracy Bond in On Her Majesty's Secret Service among many other roles, has died aged 82. As announced by her agent today, Rigg "died peacefully early this morning. She was at home with her family who have asked for privacy at this difficult time." Rigg rose to fame in the UK during the 1960s, playing Emma Peel in spy series The Avengers. She rose to world prominence later that decade, as she played the ill-fated Tracy Bond - the only Bond girl to marry James Bond - in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. In recent years, she became best-known for playing Lady Olenna Tyrell, the 'Queen of Thorns', in the latter seasons of Game of Thrones. Lady Olenna became a fan-favourite, not least because of her barbed one-liners (of which you can see a selection in the gallery below). [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=game-of-thrones-lady-olennas-best-lines&captions=true"] Rigg also played herself in an episode of Ricky Gervais' Extras, Lady Neville in Andy Serkis' directorial debut, Breathe, and Mrs. Winifred Gillyflower in Doctor Who episode, 'The Crimson Horror'. In 1994, Rigg was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) for services to drama in the Queen's Birthday Honours. 'Crimson Horror' and Sherlock writer Mark Gatiss wrote on Twitter that Rigg was "Flinty, fearless, fabulous. There will never be another. RIP". Fellow Game of Thrones actor Tony Way (Ser Dontos Hollard) wrote, "A true icon. I met her a couple of times on Game of Thrones. I played Backgammon with her once. She called me a c**t for beating her. She was fantastic." Bond movie producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli provided a joint statement: "We are very sad to hear of the passing of Dame Diana Rigg, the legendary stage and screen actress who was much beloved by Bond fans for her memorable performance as Tracy di Vicenzo in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, the only woman to have married James Bond. Our love and thoughts are with her family and friends at this sad time." Why The Boys Season 2 Episodes Are Releasing Weekly

Amazon Prime Video has finally premiered the much-anticipated Season 2 of The Boys, and it's every bit as diabolical as Season 1. However, some people are confused why Amazon only released the first three episodes of The Boys Season 2's eight episodes: "The Big Ride," "Proper Preparation and Planning," and "Over the Hill with the Swords of a Thousand Men," leading some viewers to wonder whether there are only three episodes in The Boys Season 2 in total. Luckily, there are still plenty more superhero shenanigans to look forward to. Check out our Season 2 premiere review in the video below: [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/24/amazons-the-boys-season-2-review"]

When Do Episodes of The Boys Season 2 Come Out?

Amazon Prime Video is releasing new episodes of The Boys Season 2 on a weekly basis every Friday until the Season 2 finale, which will air on October 9. This is different from The Boys' Season 1 release schedule, when every episode dropped at once. IGN recently spoke to showrunner Eric Kripke, who explained why they decided to make the change from Season 1's binge model approach. "I'm aware that people seem to be unhappy that we moved to a staggered rollout," Kripke told IGN. "I get it. I think a lot of people were surprised even though we advertised a lot that we were moving to a weekly format, but clearly we needed to advertise it more and really put a bright neon sign on it. So I think people were disappointed, which was a bummer to see." Kripke went on to say that the decision to release The Boys Season 2 episodes on a weekly basis is "not a cash grab from Amazon. This was a creative choice from the producers. [Fans] may not like it, but they at least have to respect that the people making the show made this choice on their own. And creatively too, we felt that the best way to absorb the show was to have a little bit of time in between [each episode] to discuss a lot of difficult issues and tricky storylines that are in the show before they immediately burn on to the next one." Find out how much Homelander actor Antony Starr knows about his character from the comic books in the video below: [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/02/the-boys-how-much-does-homelander-know-about-homelander"]

The Boys Season 2 Release Schedule

  • Episodes 1-3: Friday, September 4
  • Episode 4: Friday, September 12
  • Episode 5: Friday, September 19
  • Episode 6: Friday, September 26
  • Episode 7: Friday, October 2
  • Episode 8 (Finale): Friday, October 9

What Time Does The Boys Season 2 Come Out?

It's unclear exactly what time The Boys Season 2 drops a new episode. However, it is likely (at least in Pacific time) that each new adventure will be available to stream at midnight every Friday. The 100 Showrunner Releases Statement on Major Character Death

The 100’s showrunner, Jason Rothenberg, has released a statement on Twitter in response to fan outrage over the decision to kill a major character in the CW show’s seventh and final season. Warning: spoilers for The 100 follow. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/26/the-100-special-video-presentation-qa-official-panel-comic-con-2020"] In the 13th episode of Season 7, aired on September 9, core character Clarke Griffin shoots and kills her best friend, Bellamy Blake, in order to prevent him from giving a vital book to the cult-like Disciples. In the resulting struggle, Clarke is unable to obtain the book before fleeing, meaning presumably Bellamy's death will not prevent the Disciples learning the knowledge in the book, and so his death is all for nothing. Fan reaction to the plot point has been negative, with many upset that the show did not fulfill the popular Clarke/Bellamy ‘ship’ that the fandom has popularised over the show’s seven-season run. In response, Rothenberg issued the following statement on Twitter: “For 7 seasons, The 100 has been a show about the dark things that humanity will do to survive and the toll those deeds take on our heroes’ souls. We knew Bellamy’s death had to go to the heart of what the show is all about: Survival. Who you’re willing to protect. And who you’re willing to sacrifice. His loss is devastating, but his life and his endless love for his people will loom large and affect everything that comes after, to the very end of the series finale itself.” Bellamy, played by Bob Morley, has been a season regular on the show since it began in 2014. The show adapts Bellamy’s character from the books, originally written by Kass Morgan, but his character has altered over the course of the series as the storylines of the show diverge from those seen in the book series. The finale of the final book, The 100: Rebellion, sees Bellamy ask Clarke to marry him, an outcome seemingly many of the show’s fans would have like to have seen. The 100 season 7 is the final season of the CW's young adult post-apocalypse show. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt Purslow is IGN's UK News and Entertainment Writer.

Xbox Series X Retail Box Revealed

The Xbox Series X retail box art has been revealed. A listing for the Xbox Series X has been spotted on Canadian consumer electronics website The Source, which features an image of what seems to be the next-gen console's box, alongside press shots of the device. The main image on the box focuses on the vent at the top of the device, and symbols in the corner tout features such as the Series X's 4K 120 FPS capabilities, the Xbox Velocity Architecture system and the console's 1 TB SSD. No official word on the size of the box itself. 20200909095407-108090646-F (1)     We're still waiting on a look at the final retail packaging for the slimmer Xbox Series S. It seems a safe bet that it might focus in more on the white color scheme for its packaging, matching the console itself. We recently learned that Xbox Series X will launch on November 10, 2020, retailing at $499 USD / £449 / $749 AUD. The Xbox Series S was also announced, a less-powerful, all-digital version which outputs at 1440p instead of 4K. The Xbox Series S will retail at $299 USD / £249, with preorders for both consoles kicking off on September 22. If you're not sure which console to pick up, check out our article comparing the specifications between the two consoles to help you make that decision. You can also check out the full Xbox Series X games list here, which runs through all rumored and confirmed titles coming to Microsoft's slate of next-gen consoles. Thanks to all of this week's Xbox details, the long next-gen standoff is finally ending. We're still waiting on Sony to reveal the PS5's price, release date, and other final retail details, but with Xbox going first, Sony surely can't be far behind. RoboCop Prequel Series in Development (and It Won’t Feature Robocop)

A RoboCop prequel TV series that will detail the rise of Omni Consumer Products and the company’s Vice President, Dick Jones, is in early stages of development. Talking to Movieholen.net, Ed Neumeier, scriptwriter of the original 1987 movie, revealed that he is working at MGM on the series. “It has all the cool stuff about RoboCop except no RoboCop,” he said. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/08/02/history-of-awesome-robocop"] “There’s the idea of doing things about business and law enforcement in the city of Detroit a minute-and-a-half in the future,” he explained. “It would be a way to do all sorts of stories about business and tech, Silicon Valley, corporations, snakes in suits, cops, all that. It’s a wonderful rich tapestry.” Neumeier seems to suggest that the show doesn’t have a formal green light yet, stating that MGM still needs to find the right partners and produce a pilot episode. But, should everything go head, the show will follow “ the evolution of Richard Jones to Dick Jones, the story of OCP and how the world moves into the future, how the corporate world behaves.” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2014/02/04/10-things-you-probably-dont-know-about-robocop"] He also notes that people don’t necessarily start out as bad guys, suggesting Jones may not be quite the scumbag he was in the 1987 movie when played by Ronny Cox. The last time we saw the city of Detroit under the thumb of Omni Consumer Products was in the RoboCop remake back in 2014, which we gave a 6.9 in our review back in the day. Hopefully, should this project come to fruition, it'll fare better than Joel Kinnaman's Alex Murphy. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt Purslow is IGN's UK News and Entertainment Writer.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake Announcement Seems Likely at Ubisoft Forward

A number of leaks suggest that a Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake announcement is likely to be revealed during Ubisoft Forward later today. A small clip has leaked from the Russian Uplay store, which appears to show remastered visuals from the game ahead of a potential reveal during Ubisoft's September 10 showcase. Yesterday, fans spotted Prince of Persia motifs and symbols in a piece of promotional art for Ubisoft Forward, and an Amazon UK listing for a 'Prince of Persia Remake' has also been found. All of this evidence suggests that Ubisoft is raring up to reveal a remake of 2008's Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, most likely during Ubisoft Forward. A video surfaced in May showing test footage of a cancelled Prince of Persia pitch from 2012. For more information, check out our writeup here. If it is indeed real, a Sands of Time remake would likely go down well - back in 2003 we awarded the original a 9.6/10 review, saying it was "a must own -- a soon-to-be-classic worthy of a permanent place in your collection." Skull & Bones: Production Is in ‘Full Swing with a New Vision’

Skull & Bones, Ubisoft's upcoming pirate game, will not be at September 10's Ubisoft Forward, but its production is "in full swing with a new vision." Skull & Bones' creative director Elisabeth Pellen gave an update on the game's development, saying the team at Ubisoft Singapore is "fully committed to launching the game, as well as supporting it for many years to come." Pellen and the team "dreamt something bigger for Skull & Bones, and these ambitions naturally came with bigger challenges." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/06/12/skull-and-bones-cinematic-announcement-trailer-e3-2017-ubisoft-conference"] She also ran through some of the critical questions the team had to ask themselves, including "how do we modernize the classic pirate fantasy? How do we ensure a more immersive and visceral experience? How do we create cool and memorable moments in-game?" The answer, according to Pellen, is "more development time." As this new vision for Skull & Bones became clearer, "fresh eyes have joined the team" to help make it into a reality. Not only that, as Ubisoft Berlin, Chengdu, Kiev, Paris, and the Philippines are also working hard on helping this game become what the team knows it can be. While Skull & Bones may not appear at the next Ubisoft Forward, it will be having its "comeback next year." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=skull-bones-e3-2017-reveal-trailer-stills&captions=true"] This news follows previous reports that Skull & Bones was being rebooted with a "live" game model with ongoing storytelling inspired by Fortnite. Furthermore, it was said that it was also shifting away from the "premium box model" used by most of Ubisoft's AAA franchises like Assassin's Creed and The Division. Skull & Bones was revealed during E3 2017, and was originally going to allow players to captain their own pirate ship in 1721 in a world that was shaped by the player community and the pirate gangs they form. It was scheduled for a release date of Fall 2018 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. No More Heroes 3 Delayed to 2021

No More Heroes 3 has been delayed to 2021, as the COVID-19 pandemic has caused "unforeseen delays in development." No More Heroes series director Goichi 'Suda51' Suda of Grasshopper Manufacture took to Twitter to explain the delay and apologize to fans for the lack of news ever since "the reveal of the trailer for No More Heroes 3 at [The Game Awards] at the end of 2019." While the pandemic has impacted the project, Suda did say that the team has "managed to get back on our feet with development" and that their main focus now is "prioritizing quality." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/06/11/no-more-heroes-3-announcement-trailer-e3-2019"] It wasn't all bad news, however, as he revealed that Darick Robertson, a comic book illustrator who co-created The Boys, will be joining the team working on No More Heroes 3 to "provide illustrations for the game." Suda shared a commissioned piece by Darick Robertson on Twitter, called "Demzamtiger & His Master," and you can check it out below.
