Submit a Video Comment and We’ll Play It on Beyond! This Week

BEYOND! We love hearing your feedback on IGN's PlayStation show, Podcast Beyond!, whether through Memory Card, That One Thing, or questions, and now you have the chance to actually let us hear your beautiful voices on Podcast Beyond! At the bottom of this article, you will find an option that lets you share a brief video with us and the IGN community, powered by audio and video commenting tool, Yappa. We want as many Beyond! fans as we can get to answer this question: What's Your Favorite First-Party PS4 Game? With every announced PS4 Sony-developed exclusive now available, we wanted to know what your favorite first-party game of the generation is!

Here's how you can participate:

  • Create a Yappa account or sign in with a Facebook, Google, Disqus, or LinkedIn account.
  • Look for the video commenting box at the bottom of our articles on both desktop and mobile web. Note that the feature is currently not available on our mobile apps.
  • Hit the green bar with the speech bubble icon, allow access to your mic and camera if your permission settings require that step.
  • You can choose between audio and video recording. We’d prefer video to see your face (and only your face, please -- although Samus and Master Chief helmets or God of War face paint, etc. are cool with us), but you can use the audio-only option if you’re having a bad hair day.
  • When you can see your face, hit record to start recording your video. Hit stop when you’re done. You can leave a message that's up to 45 seconds long.
  • You can rewatch your video and then choose to cancel or post.
  • If you'd rather upload a video you recorded separately, you can use the Upload Media function to do so. This'll be handy to show off your amiibo or classic games collections. But please, no copyrighted content.
  • You can watch and share videos from fellow commenters by clicking on their icons and you can follow contributors you like as well.
Still have questions? You can learn more details about the new commenting system. And, please remember to follow our guidelines for commenting. And of course, be sure to check out the latest episode of Podcast Beyond!

Guess Who’s Narrating Ready Player Two?

Wil Wheaton is heading back to the OASIS. The Star Trek: The Next Generation and Teen Titans Go! actor will narrate the upcoming audiobook for Ready Player Two, author Ernest Cline's long-awaited sequel novel. Publisher Random House made the announcement Monday via social media: Wheaton previously narrated the audiobook for Ready Player One. A follow-up nearly a decade in the waiting, Ready Player Two will be published November 24, 2020. Pre-order your copy of Ready Player Two now! Ernest Cline's original book came out in 2011 and proved a blockbuster sensation, taking readers into a dystopian future where citizens escape into a 1980s pop culture-drenched virtual reality called the OASIS. [caption id="attachment_2393773" align="alignnone" width="450"]Will Wheaton Will Wheaton[/caption] Director Steven Spielberg adapted Ready Player One as a movie in 2018 that starred Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Lena Waithe, T.J. Miller, Simon Pegg, and Mark Rylance. In our positive Ready Player One review, we called the film "far more than just a reference-fest. It’s an action film first, both in the relatively bland real world and in the colorful, over-the-top virtual one, and carries Steven Spielberg’s affinity for thoughtful timing and some genuinely thrilling sequences." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=best-virtual-reality-adventure-movies&captions=true"] Wil Wheaton will next host the reality competition series Gamemaster, which will pit amateur games against one another for a $100,000 prize.

New ‘Cyborg’ Technology Moves One Step Closer to Reality

Researchers are taking steps toward integrating electronics with the body as part of a new cyborg technology that could enable future diagnostic monitoring. According to Phys.org, a team from the University of Delaware have conducted tests to determine whether an antistatic coating would help electronic displays to be implanted into an individual's brain or muscle tissue in a less invasive manner, as the scars caused by surgically implanted systems typically prevent the devices electric signals from operating efficiently. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/07/17/how-alita-battle-angels-manga-eyes-make-the-cyborg-human"] The report notes the test results, "found that the polymer had the properties necessary for interfacing hardware and human tissue," and "dramatically improved the performance of medical implants by lowering their impedance two to three orders of magnitude, thus increasing signal quality and battery lifetime in patients." "These conjugated polymers are electrically active, but they are also ionically active," explained David Martin, Ph.D., who led the study. "Counter ions give them the charge they need so when they are in operation, both electrons and ions are moving around." Dr Martin says that, "his dream is to be able to tailor how these materials deposit on a surface and then to put them in tissue in a living organism," as the application of such devices could be used to monitor the body's internal systems for the early stages of disease, tumor development or even act as a stand-in material for damaged tissues. The Boys Season 3 Casts Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles

Supernatural star Jensen Ackles will join the cast of The Boys for the Amazon Prime series' third season, the streaming service announced Monday. Ackles initially announced the news on his social media. Amazon says "Ackles will portray Soldier Boy - the original Superhero. After Soldier Boy fought in World War II, he became the first super celebrity, and a mainstay of American culture for decades." Ackles will reunite with his Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, who serves as showrunner and exec producer on The Boys. [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="800"] Jensen Ackles in Supernatural.[/caption] “When I was a child, I had a crazy, impossible dream — to provide Jensen Ackles with gainful employment. I’m happy to say that dream has come true," Kripke said in a statement. "Jensen is an amazing actor, an even better person, smells like warm chocolate chip cookies, and I consider him a brother. As Soldier Boy, the very first Superhero, he’ll bring so much humor, pathos, and danger to the role. I can’t wait to be on set with him again, and bring a bit of Supernatural to The Boys.” Ackles is no stranger to comic book adaptations having voiced Jason Todd in the DC animated film Batman: Under the Red Hood. He also portrayed Jason Teague on Smallville. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/the-boys-season-2-whale-carcass-official-clip"] The news that The Boys is renewed for Season 3 dropped during the show's Comic-Con@Home panel last month. The Boys Season 2 premieres September 4th, with new episodes available weekly through October 9th.

The O.Z. Combines Mad Max and The Wizard of Oz

In what may be the strangest pop culture reinvention since Scooby Apocalypse, The O.Z. is delivering a grim, emotionally charged take on The Wizard of Oz. Basically, picture L. Frank Baum's classic fantasy story by way of Mad Max: Fury Road and you'll have some idea of what to expect from this new limited series. IGN can exclusively debut two covers and the first 11 pages of The O.Z. #1. Check them out in the slideshow gallery below: [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-oz-fantasy-war-comic-combines-mad-max-and-the-wizard-of-oz&captions=true"] The O.Z. is written by David Pepose, whom you may remember from Spencer & Locke, another bizarre yet fascinating pop culture mashup that mixes Calvin and Hobbes with a strong dose of Sin City-style noir. This time, Pepose is joined by artist Ruben Rojas, colorist Whitney Cogar and letterer DC Hopkins. In this dark re-imagining of the Oz mythos, readers will learn the surprisingly bleak consequences of Dorothy Gale killing the Wicked Witch of the West. The resulting power vacuum has led to years of civil war and magical bloodshed. Oz is now known as "The Occupied Zone," and it falls on Dorothy's granddaughter - an Iraq War veteran with a bad case of PTSD - to bring peace to this war-torn realm. "You've seen me tackle crime and romance, but you aren't ready for our latest twist on epic fantasy with The O.Z.," Pepose told IGN. "Teaming up with rising star artist Ruben Rojas, we're re-imagining L. Frank Baum's iconic Wizard of Oz mythology to explore trauma, guilt and morality during wartime. We've been so excited to show the world what we've been working on that we weren't willing to wait another second — if you're a fan of Mad Max, The Old Guard, or the Sheriff of Babylon, you're going to want to join us in the trenches for The O.Z." The O.Z. #1 is being offered exclusively through Kickstarter, and the campaign is live now. Pepose tells IGN there will be a total of four Kickstarter campaigns for THE O.Z., one for each of the three, 44-page issues and a fourth for the eventual collected edition. In other creator-owned comics news, Batman icons Scott Snyder and Tony Daniel are joining forces for a horror comic called Nocternal, while current Batman writer James Tynion IV is teaming with Dying Is easy's Martin Simmonds for a conspiracy thriller called The Department of Truth.
