Hitman 3 Modes Revealed, PvP Multiplayer Servers to Shut Down

IO Interactive is developing Hitman 3 for its planned January 2021 launch. Today, the developers outlined all the different modes that will be available in Hitman 3 and the World of Assassination. But with new modes, IO also announced it will begin sunsetting some multiplayer modes including the 1v1 competitive multiplayer Ghost Mode. Hitman 3 will serve as the conclusion to the Hitman trilogy, as well as a hub for the World of Assassination. As such, Hitman 3 will include a brand new sandbox campaign mode that ties the story of the trilogy together. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/11/hitman-iii-announcement-trailer"] Also, Hitman 3 will bring back the popular Elusive Targets mode where players get one shot at eliminating a unique target with no HUD help. Players will need to come up with a plan on the spot and IO says there will be some changes to the mode that will be detailed at a later date. Escalations is an “anything goes” mode. There will be gameplay restrictions to disguises, added security cameras, and other difficulty modifiers that make these some of the hardest challenges in Hitman. Contracts Mode lets players pick their own targets and elimination rules. You can share these rulesets with other players and challenge them to see who can get the best score on a leaderboard. Sniper Assassin, where players must use a sniper rifle to rack up high scores, returns but is now a single-player experience. The co-op servers in Hitman 2 will be sunset before the launch of Hitman 3. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/06/hitman-3-psvr-teaser-trailer-state-of-play-2020"] Finally, IO announced that the 1v1 Ghost Mode will not be in Hitman 3, and servers for Ghost Mode will end on August 31, 2020. IO says that they’ll be taking what they’ve learned from the mode when considering what to do with multiplayer in the future. IO also announced that Hitman will be fully playable in VR at the most recent PlayStation State of Play. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt T.M. Kim is a reporter for IGN.

‘Galactus Is Coming!’ Mysterious ‘Heartbeat’ Detected in Cosmic Cloud

If you thought the Internet freaked out over Annabelle escaping from its occult museum (it didn't) wait until you learn about its reaction to Galactus being on his way. Social media exploded in cries of "Galactus!" -- the planet-consuming Marvel Comics villain -- on Monday when news spread of a heartbeat being detected in a mysterious cosmic gas cloud 15,000 light-years from Earth in the system designated S 433. "The cloud – which is otherwise unremarkable – seems to be 'beating' along with the rhythm of a neighbouring black hole, researchers say. As such, they appear to be connected to each other, the researchers write in a new journal paper," according to The Independent. "But it is not clear how the gamma-ray 'heartbeat' of the cloud can be connected to the black hole, which lies 100 light years away." While the actual science behind what might be causing the mysterious heartbeat is less fantastical than Galactus, that didn't prevent Twitter from exclaiming that the cosmic Marvel supervillain was on his way to make 2020 even more of a terrible year. Here are a smattering of "Galactus!" responses: Although depicted in Marvel Comics as a planet-sized armored humanoid form, Galactus was infamously portrayed as a sentient cloud entity in the 2007 movie Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Look, it could always be worse than Galactus. It could be the giant diarrhea space cloud Parallax from Green Lantern. But, really, what is the deal with that cloud? One theory about this "heartbeat" is that the rhythm is tied to material drawn away by the black hole from the giant star orbiting it, matter shot out at high speed in two narrow jets. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/09/27/why-galactus-should-not-be-the-mcus-next-big-villain"] "Finding such an unambiguous connection via timing, about 100 light years away from the micro quasar, not even along the direction of the jets is as unexpected as amazing," said researcher Jian Li. "But how the black hole can power the gas cloud's heartbeat is unclear to us." For more on the classic baddie, who ranked #17 on our list of Top 25 Marvel villains, learn why Galactus shouldn't be the MCU's next big villain. Marvel Celebrates Wolverine’s Gory Side In Stylish New Series

Marvel Comics has announced a new ongoing X-Men series called Wolverine: Black, White & Blood. As the name suggests, the series is marked by a distinctive art style rendered only in shades of black, white and red. While Marvel's current Wolverine comic is set firmly within the new Dawn of X status quo, Black, White & Blood is a standalone anthology series that explores various untold stories throughout Wolverine's long life. The first issue will feature three short stories  - a Weapon X tale from writer Gerry Duggan and artist Adam Kubert, a Wolverine and Nick Fury-centric spy-ops story from Matthew Rosenberg and artist Joshua Cassara and a tale set in the era of Grant Morrison's New X-Men from writer/artist Declan Shalvey. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=wolverine-black-white-blood-1-preview&captions=true"] In terms of visual style, Wolverine: Black, White & Blood is similar to DC's Harley Quinn: Black + White + Red series. Unlike that digital-first book, however, Black, White & Blood will ship monthly and be released simultaneously in print and digital formats. Future creators will include Vita Ayala, Chris Claremont, Saladin Ahmed, Donny Cates, Ed Brisson, Kelly Thompson, Greg Land, Salvador Larroca, Kev Walker, Chris Bachalo and Leonard Kirk. “I can’t stress how exciting it is getting all of these pages from the absolutely killer level of talent assembled for this book," series editor Mark Basso told Marvel.com. "It’s become a hype cliché, but you’ve really never seen anything quite like this from Marvel Comics. And you’ve only seen a fraction of the first issue…” "This is a real career highlight for me," said Shalvey. "I've written Old Man Logan, I've drawn RETURN OF WOLVERINE, but getting to write and draw Wolverine in a moody, stripped down story is a real jewel in my crown, as it were. Not only that, but to showcase my work in black and white with the added tool of a stylized red really opens up interesting storytelling possibilities. I get to take a stab (pun intended) at one of my absolute favorite characters and depict him in a more definitive way." Wolverine: Black, White & Blood #1 will be released in November 2020. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/10/09/marvels-x-men-now-have-a-bold-new-status-quo-ign-now"] In other recent comics news, Batman icons Scott Snyder and Tony Daniel are joining forces for a horror comic called Nocternal, while current Batman writer James Tynion IV is teaming with Dying Is easy's Martin Simmonds for a conspiracy thriller called The Department of Truth. Did Furiosa Become a Villain? George Miller Muses on the Fury Road Character’s Fate

What happened to Furiosa following the events of Mad Max: Fury Road? The film's director, George Miller, has pondered that very question. In an interview with Josh Horowitz, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Miller discussed what he thinks happened to her after the events of that movie. For Miller, there are two possible fates for Furiosa. The director sees her as happy in one and as a villain in the other. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-25-best-sci-fi-movies&captions=true"] "One is utopian, which is not an interesting story," Miller said. "I've somehow imagined that the first thing she would do in line with that, is go up and release the water." Miller pointed out that it's not likely this happened and that instead, she becomes more of a tyrant or villain. He said Joseph Campbell's line of thinking about archetypal heroes and villains is what has led him to this possible fate for Furiosa. "Campbell said that the usual story is that today's hero becomes tomorrow's tyrant," Miller said. "The hero is the agent of change. They basically relinquish self-interest in order for some common good. (Campbell) basically says...you love what you've built or saved too much. You become holdfast. You become the orthodoxy. You develop the dogma and basically then you have to protect it. That tends to be the rhythm of these things." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/26/furiosa-the-new-mutants-anya-taylor-joy-reportedly-up-for-mad-max-spin-off"] Miller likes to believe that Furiosa is too smart to "fall into that trap" as she's already seen it with Immortan Joe, who he believes went through the same character arc. Maybe after learning more about Furiosa in her Mad Max spin-off movie, we'll better understand her fate after Fury Road. The New Mutants' Anya Taylor-Joy is reportedly up for the role of Furiosa in that movie, although nothing has been officially confirmed. Taylor-Joy's potential casting has original Furiosa actor Charlize Theron heartbroken that she won't be returning to the character.
