Call of Duty League Champions Will Win an Actual Throne

The Call of Duty League Championship is this weekend and Activision is giving away a unique prize to this year's best Call of Duty team: A throne. Alongside the annual trophy and championship ring awarded to the winning Call of Duty esports team, this year's winner will receive a throne designed by Sheron Barber. Barber has designed for artists like Drake, Billie Eilish, Rihanna, and Post Malone, but is now teaming up with the Call of Duty League for the prize throne. While the throne isn't fully built yet, you can check out a design of it below. IMG_1726 The inspirations for the throne come from cubism and classic arcade machines. It will also be customized for the winning team to include the Championship date, as well as names and player statistics from the season. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/26/call-of-duty-black-ops-cold-war-reveal-trailer"] Activision recently unveiled Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, a sequel to Black Ops developed by Raven Software and Treyarch. Resident Evil Live-Action Series Confirmed By Netflix

After more than a year of speculation about the possibility of Netflix developing a Resident Evil series, the streaming giant has finally confirmed that a live-action adaptation of Capcom's legendary survival-horror franchise is in the works. According to Netflix, Resident Evil will tell a brand new story across two timelines. Here's how Netflix describes the Resident Evil show in a brief synopsis: "In the first timeline, fourteen-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker are moved to New Raccoon City. A manufactured, corporate town, forced on them right as adolescence is in full swing. But the more time they spend there, the more they come to realize that the town is more than it seems and their father (editor's note: Albert Wesker, we presume!) may be concealing dark secrets. Secrets that could destroy the world. Cut to the second timeline, well over a decade into the future: there are less than fifteen million people left on Earth. And more than six billion monsters -- people and animals infected with the T-virus. Jade, now thirty, struggles to survive in this New World, while the secrets from her past - about her sister, her father, and herself - continue to haunt her." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-resident-evil-game-review-ever&captions=true"] Netflix has also released an image of the first script via its NX Twitter account: RE While no casting information has been announced, Netflix did reveal that the eight-episode first season of hour-long episodes will be brought to life by showrunner and writer Andrew Dabb (Supernatural), and director Bronwen Hughes (The Walking Dead), who will direct the first two episodes. Both Dabb and Hughes will serve as executive producers alongside Robert Kulzer and Oliver Berben of Constantin Film, and Mary Leah Sutton. "Resident Evil is my favorite game of all time," Dabb explained. "I'm incredibly excited to tell a new chapter in this amazing story and bring the first-ever Resident Evil series to Netflix members around the world. For every type of Resident Evil fan, including those joining us for the first time, the series will be complete with a lot of old friends, and some things (bloodthirsty, insane things) people have never seen before." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/01/25/will-resident-evil-be-netflixs-walking-dead"] Are you excited for a Resident Evil Netflix series? Fortnite’s Marvel Crossover Characters Announced

Fortnite: Chapter 2 - Season 4, bringing with it, as teased earlier this week, a Marvel universe of heroes, villains, character skins, weapons, and new challenges. With Galactus threatening to devour a new world - that of Fortnite - the new season, dubbed The Nexus War, sees a new set of Marvel characters arrive to fight against him and be unlocked in the new Battle Pass including:
  • Thor
  • Iron Man
  • Storm
  • Doctor Doom
  • She-Hulk
  • Mystique
  • Groot
  • Wolverine
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=fortnite-marvel-crossover-screenshots&captions=true"] Each character has their own special quest which will unlock a built-in Emote related to the hero or villain. The Battle Pass features 100 unlockable rewards, with plenty of Marvel-related new items included. New Marvel-themed super powers can be adopted in battles, like Doom's Arcane Gauntles, Groot's Bramble Shield, Silver Surfer's Board, and more to come in the new season. New weapons like the Stark Industries Energy Rifle will be introduced. And new locations, both currently added and more to come, feature a Marvel twist, like Doom's Domain, Sentinel Graveyard, and more. And as you can see from the season's first look, it looks like you'll have a Helicarrier to call home, too, as it appears to be the new Battle Pass hub for players. This of course isn't the first Fortnite and Marvel crossover — Captain America was previously released as a purchasable character, and last year featured a major Avengers: Endgame crossover, which was preceded by an Avengers: Infinity War crossover in 2018. Thousand Threads Review — Post Secrets

Thousand Threads opens outside a tent in an unknown land, a dirt path presenting one potential way forward. If you stray from it, odds are a wolf will take notice and attack; you might fend it off with a stick, you might outrun it, or you might accidentally lead it to a house and watch in horror as it attacks the two randomly generated occupants that were sitting calmly a moment before, minding their own business. You might seek out more people and start performing little odd jobs for them; you might also return to the path and find the dead body of the region's mail carrier, still carrying a sack of undelivered letters.

It's a hell of a setup for Thousand Threads, a first-person exploration game that, over several hours, delivers on few of the promises these opening minutes set up. Nothing I experienced in the game after quite matched the excitement I felt in those opening minutes up to the point where I found the dead mail carrier. That's not to say the game isn't charming in places, though--this large open world has stories to tell and sights to see, even if they emerge at an achingly slow pace.

Halo Vet Joseph Staten Joins 343 to Get Halo Infinite ‘Back on Track’

Update (8/26/20) - Microsoft and 343 Industries have confirmed that Joseph Staten will "be returning home to Halo for a bit." The news was revealed on Halo Waypoint, further clarifying that Staten will officially be joining as project lead for Halo Infinite's campaign after helping launch Tell Me Why this week. In addition to Staten, Pierre Hintze, the head of the publishing team for Halo: The Master Chief Collection, will be joining the Halo Infinite team as a project lead for its Free-To-Play multiplayer experience. Hintze and his team "have demonstrated an amazing ability to deliver new content, an excellent flighting program, and substantive updates across MCC over the past year." Original story follows. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Halo veteran Joseph Staten, who was instrumental in the success of Bungie's Halo games, has been brought over to 343 Industries to help get Halo Infinite "back on track." As reported by Bloomberg, Microsoft will also be shifting one more senior leader to Halo Infinite, and sources say these changes are to "provide more expertise to the project." Microsoft is expected to announce these moves as early as tomorrow, August 27. Staten and the other senior leader will reportedly work with studio head Chris Lee and report to Bonnie Ross, the Microsoft VP who oversees 343. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/12/halo-infinites-delay-is-the-right-movebut-a-painful-one"] Staten began his career at Bungie in 1998 as a product manager on Myth II: Soulblighter, and was the writer and director of cinematics for Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2, the writer for Halo 3 and Halo: Reach, a creative consultant for Halo Wars, the writer and creative director of Halo 3: ODST, and the writer and co-creative director for Destiny. Staten did leave Bungie in 2013, before the release of Destiny, and he rejoined Microsoft in 2014 to work on non-Halo games in the Xbox portfolio. According to Bloomberg, he was overseeing another Microsoft-published game before this decision. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=confirmed-xbox-series-x-games&captions=true"] Halo Infinite was delayed to 2021 earlier this month, and it was undoubtedly a difficult decision as it was set up to be the marquee launch game for the Xbox Series X. For more on Halo Infinite, read 343 Industries response to some of its biggest concerns and its statement on how it has "no plans" to delay Halo Infinite until 2022 and remove Xbox One support. PS5 Preorders Aren’t Available Yet, But Sony Offers Fans a Chance to Be First to Buy

While we are still waiting for an official price and release date for the PlayStation 5, Sony is giving its fans with a "US based address" a chance to sign up to be one of the first people to pre-order the PS5. If you go to the PS5 Direct Pre-Orders page on PlayStation's website, Sony mentions that, "there will be a limited quantity of PS5 consoles available for pre-order, so we will be inviting some of our existing consumers to be one of the first to pre-order one from PlayStation." The reservations will be taken on a first-come-first-serve basis, so if you are selected, Sony "encourages you to follow instructions and act fast." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/12/ps5-reveal-event-in-5-minutes"] Those who are interested to potentially receive one of these invitations can share their PlayStation Online IDs and, if selected, Sony will e-mail you the instructions to secure a PS5 a launch. So, make sure the e-mail attached to you PlayStation ID is up to date! Sony also released a FAQ for these PS5 pre-orders, saying that the selection of who gets chosen for a PS5 pre-order is "based on previous interest and PlayStation activities." Those who are selected will be able to pre-order the following, if they choose:
  • 1 PS5 Console or 1 PS5 Digital Edition
  • 2 DualSense wireless controllers
  • 2 DualSense charging stations
  • 2 Pulse 3D wireless headsets
  • 2 Media remotes
  • 2 HD cameras
If you live outside the US, you can still register and have it shipped to a "US based address." Unfortunately, any orders that contain a non-US based address will be cancelled. As of this time it's unclear what Sony will do in non-U.S. territories, but we'll update this story as more is announced. NASA Discovers Galaxy Shaped Like Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter

NASA announced Tuesday that it has discovered a galaxy far, far away that's shaped like an imperial TIE fighter from Star Wars. The active galaxy -- designated TXS 0128+554 -- is located 500 million light-years from us in the Cassiopeia constellation. “The first time I saw the results, I immediately thought it looked like Darth Vader’s TIE fighter spacecraft from Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope," said Purdue University scientist Matthew Lister, one of the authors of a paper published in The Astrophysical Journal announcing the findings. [caption id="attachment_2399036" align="alignnone" width="482"]The galaxy TXS 0128 as observed by the Very Long Baseline Array. (Credit: NRAO) TXS 0128 as observed by the Very Long Baseline Array. (Credit: NRAO)[/caption] [caption id="attachment_2399057" align="alignnone" width="720"]TIE Fighters in A New Hope. TIE Fighters in A New Hope.[/caption] Lister added, "That was a fun surprise, but its appearance at different radio frequencies also helped us learn more about how active galaxies can change dramatically on decade time scales.” The scientific research team, using multiple telescopes and observatories, documented the galaxy from a number of positions. "We're seeing TXS 0128+554 at an angle, which emphasizes its Star Wars features," CNET noted. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/11/13/9-best-star-wars-spaceship-scenes"] CNET added, "The galaxy has a supermassive black hole at its center and is blasting out twin jets of energy. The starfighter appearance became very apparent when the Very Long Baseline Array network took a look at radio signals emanating from the galaxy." Frankly, a galaxy shaped like a TIE fighter isn't the strangest thing science news of late, given the reports of a "Galactus" cloud, the purported recovery of "off-world vehicles," a parallel universe where time runs backward, and scientists resurrecting 100-million-year-old underwater lifeforms. So what do you think of this galaxy far, far away? Let us know in the comments. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-star-wars-game-review&captions=true"]
