Netflix Just Bought the Rights to an r/Nosleep Horror Story

Netflix has made a "low seven-figure" deal to acquire the screen rights to Matt Query's short horror story 'My Wife and I Bought a Ranch,' which was posted across six installments on Reddit. Deadline reports that Query's brother, Harrison, has been tapped to write the screenplay, while Scott Glassgold of Ground Control Entertainment will take on the role of producer. 21 Laps' Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen are said to be in talks to produce also, together with Atomic Monster's James Wan and Michael Clear. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/10/29/the-10-best-horror-tv-shows-of-the-past-decade"] Query posted his tale of terror on the r/Nosleep subreddit, a popular space for users to share their original horror stories. It tells the story of a couple, named Harry and Sasha, who buy their dream ranch in rural Idaho but soon discover that they're not alone in the mountains. According to the outlet, the couple "meet their neighbors, who inform them that there is a malevolent spirit in the valley, one that manifests itself by coming to the house in the same manner at the start of each season. There are certain steps that must be followed to keep the spirit out of their house, and the tension and violence grows with each gory ritual as the duel between the spirits and [Harry] the ex-Marine soldier becomes personal." The first part of the story has received more than 3000 upvotes over the past five months, with Part II: The LightsPart III: The Bear ChasePart IV: The Scarecrows, and Part V: The Ghosts Arrive also proving popular amongst readers. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-best-horror-tv-shows-on-netflix-right-now&captions=true"] Over the years, Netflix has garnered a reputation for spending enormous amounts of money to secure original streaming content for its platform in a bid to stay ahead of its competitors in the increasingly crowded streaming landscape. In fact, it was projected earlier this year that Netflix would be spending $17.3 billion on new content for 2020, up from $15.3 billion last year. To get a better sense of what Netflix is getting in exchange for its expenditure, check out everything that is new to Netflix this month, learn about the best horror TV shows that are on the service right now, and read about Netflix's extensive partnership with the Roald Dahl Story Company, which now includes two animated adaptations from Taika Waititi. Xbox Series X: Alleged Image of White Controller Surfaces

An image of what appears to be a white Xbox Series X controller has appeared online, suggesting another variant or version of the console exists. As first spotted by The Verge, a user known as "Wolfy_Wizzardo" posted a picture of the white controller to Reddit. The post and user account is now deleted, but apparently the image was taken by the user at a party hosted by the child of a Microsoft employee. You can spot the middle share button and the new indented Xbox Series X controller D-Pad, which makes this leaked controller variant appear somewhat credible by association. The Verge's Tom Warren spoke to the user before the post was taken down, and they told him that they had played games on the console, that the UI was similar to the Xbox One (a point we've heard before), the controller "looked more squarish" and had a more pronounced Xbox button. Setting aside the possibility that this could be fake (we've seen 3D printed controllers pop up ahead of console launches before), there are several theories around what this controller could be attached to. The simplest is that we're seeing a different colour variant for Series X, whether that's an unannounced public option, or a special edition made for Microsoft employees. This could also be a devkit or debug console controller - development models of consoles often look different to release models (for instance, the Xbox One X devkit was white as opposed to the production version's black). Another possibility is that this is the controller for the much-rumoured 'Xbox Lockhart', a lower-powered, lower priced model of Series X we're heard rumours about for some time. Back in early June, references to an 'Xbox Lockhart' were found in Windows Operating System code libraries, suggesting that there was a rumoured second console on the way, as part of the Xbox Series X family. In late June, a report surfaced suggesting that the Xbox Lockhart is set to be revealed in August, and will be known as the Xbox Series S. In other Xbox Series X news, check out every game confirmed and rumoured for Microsoft's next-gen console. FIFA 21 Gameplay Seemingly Leaks

Gameplay from FIFA 21 appears to have leaked onto Twitter, teasing some new features and an updated UI. A 'FIFA 21 Beta' Twitter account surfaced yesterday, posting a variety of clips and screenshots from the game to the platform. A 'FIFA EA Play' watermark appears to move around the screen during the footage, suggesting these clips may have leaked from a preview event linked to EA's most recent showcase. The footage shows off an updated, purple-hued UI for this year's instalment, which is comparable to the colours used in the official FIFA 21 Twitter branding. It also appears that there have been changes made to the advantage system (as can be seen in the image above), and the account shows a series of what appear to be updated player faces for Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid players. Other tweets show gameplay, which looks expectedly similar to last year's edition, and lists of celebrations. The leaks appear to stem from a "FIFA Producer Tour" build of the game, and the title screen notes that this is a pre-release build of the game, rather than a leaked demo. It's unclear from the footage whether this is a current-gen or next-gen version of the game, although it looks strikingly similar to FIFA 20. In other FIFA 21 news, we recently got a glimpse into how the game will make anticipated changes to its Career Mode for this year's instalment. Halo Infinite’s Campaign Has 2-Player Local Split Screen, 4-Player Online

343 Industries has confirmed that Halo Infinite's campaign will support 2-player local split screen, and up to 4 players online. Jerry Hook, head of design at 343 Industries, took to Twitter to clarify that, while Halo Infinite will support 4-player split screen online, those playing locally will only be able to do so with one other person. This news follows Halo Infinite's reveal at the Xbox Games Showcase, where fans of the franchise that began in 2001 got their first look at the newest campaign. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/07/23/halo-infinite-9-minutes-of-campaign-gameplay"] This newest entry will make Halo open world, with upgrades to discover and new weapons to find. Furthermore, Halo Infinite will be the platform for new Halo experiences for the foreseeable future, so don't expect a Halo Infinite 2/Halo 7 in the near future. Halo Infinite takes place after the ending of Halo 5, with a rampant Cortana missing and Master Chief adrift in space. For those new to the series, Halo Infinite is meant to be a great starting point for new fans, but those who know the Halo lore will be rewarded. Halo Infinite led the Xbox Game Showcase that also revealed a new Fable, State of Decay 3, Forza Motorsport, Obsidian's Avowed, and much more. Daredevil Actor Accuses Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb of Purposely Minimizing Asian Characters

During an online discussion this weekend set up by the #SaveDaredevil campaign, Peter Shinkoda, who played Hand leader Nobu on Daredevil's first two seasons on Netflix, said that much of his character's story and development was sidelined because then-Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb thought "nobody cares about Chinese people and Asian people.” Loeb, who was released last fall when Marvel TV was officially absorbed into Marvel Studios, after Kevin Feige's promotion to Chief Creative Officer for Marvel, apparently nixed plans to focus more on Nobu and expand upon his relationship with Wai Ching Ho's Madame Gao. Shinkoda said “Jeph Loeb told the writer’s room not to write for Nobu and Gao. This was reiterated many times by many of the writers and showrunners that ‘Nobody cares about Chinese people and Asian people. There were three previous Marvel movies -- a trilogy called Blade -- where Wesley Snipes kills 200 Asians each movie. Nobody gives a s***. So don’t write about Nobu and Gao.’ And they were forced to put their storylines down and drop it.” You can watch the full #SaveDaredevil session here. Shinkoda's comments begin around the 10:00 mark... [youtube clip_id="HqtYmvTEz4c"] Last month it was revealed that Marvel Studios won't have to wait much longer until Daredevil can rejoin the MCU as the #SaveDaredevil movement calculated that only six months remain until the rights to Daredevil transfer from Netflix back to Marvel. Due to the nature of the contract between Netflix and Marvel, Marvel isn't able to use characters like Daredevil, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones until two years after the cancellation of their respective shows. Netflix canceled Daredevil in late November 2018, meaning Marvel will regain the rights to the character in November 2020. Shinkoda also recalled on Twitter how he and Madame Gao actress Wai Ching Ho weren't invited to the Season 2 premiere of Daredevil: [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-netflix-marvel-series-review&captions=true"] [poilib element="accentDivider"]

Hideo Kojima In Talks With Horror Mangaka Junji Ito About a New Project

Hideo Kojima has spoken to horror mangaka Junji Ito about a horror-based game that he may be working on. As reported by ComicBook.com, Ito was being interviewed by Viz Media during Comic-Con@Home 2020 and was asked if he was currently involved in any video game development. Ito, who was working with Kojima and Guillermo del Toro on the canceled Silent Hills project and made a cameo in Death Stranding, confirmed he was in talks about a potential new horror project and Kojima invited him to work on it. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/10/29/del-toro-reveals-more-about-silent-hills-horrifying-manga-influence"] "So, the simple answer is no," Ito's translator Junko Goda relayed. "However, I do know director Kojima and we have been in conversation that he might have a horror-based game that he may be doing, and so he has invited me to work on that, but there are no details on it yet." While this vague answer doesn't confirm that Kojima's next project will be a horror game, it is great to see he is still trying to work with Ito after the promise of what could have been for Silent Hills. Kojima recently revealed that a "big project" was recently scrapped, and that his next game would not be anything related to Metal Gear Solid or P.T. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-kojima-game-review&captions=true"] Last month, however, a Tweet by Kojima may have teased that this next project could be a sequel to Death Stranding or may take place within its universe. In 2017, Kojima also admitted that he doesn't want to make a "horror game," but that doesn't rule out that any future project led by him could include horror elements, and that's where Ito could be a perfect fit. Super Mario 64 Source Code Leak May Confirm Luigi Was Planned to Be Playable

A recent leak of Nintendo source code has potentially revealed some long-kept development secrets of some of our favorite Nintendo classics, including that Luigi was planned to be playable in Super Mario 64. Luigi's possible inclusion in Super Mario 64 was part of a much larger leak of Nintendo data on such games as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Star Fox 2, Super Mario Kart, and more. As reported by VGC, there was an early build of Super Mario 64 called "Ultra 64 Mario Brothers" and it contains files that reference Luigi. Modders have taken these files and have begun recreating Mario's brother and the results are pretty great. First up is an image from @CometMedal with Luigi's head on Mario's body, which could also have been a horror game in some alternate universe. Luigi Head@SpangleZeKankle then shared the completed model of what Luigi would have looked like in Super Mario 64. SPangleThis isn't the first time we've heard that Luigi was going to be playable in Super Mario 64, as Shigeru Miyamoto had previously stated that Nintendo was planning on including him in a "Mario Bros. style minigame, but because most users probably only have that one controller when they first buy their N64, for that reason (and others) we decided not to." Luigi being planned for Super Mario 64 was only one small part of the leak. Other users have found an early Kokiri Forest and Deku Tree from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a prototype for Yoshi, uncompressed audio from the original "Do a Barrel Roll" line from Star Fox 64, and so much more. This search for Luigi has been going on since Super Mario 64 was released in 1996. In fact, we even posted a $100 reward for anyone who could find Luigi in the N64 launch game. Oscar Winner Olivia de Havilland Dies at 104

Olivia de Havilland, the two-time Oscar winner that starred in such films as Gone With the Wind, The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Snake Pit, and The Heiress, has died at the age of 104. As reported by THR, De Havilland, who was the last remaining star of Gone With the Wind, passed away on July 26, 2020, from natural causes at her home in Paris, where she had lived for more than 60 years. Her publicist Lisa Goldberg announced the news. OliviaBR The legendary star won her best actress Oscar awards for 1946's To Each His Own and 1949's The Heiress. Her first Oscar nomination was for supporting actress in Gone With the Wind, but she lost to co-star Hattie McDaniel. Besides her incredible career in acting, De Havilland also made an even greater impact on Hollywood with what is now known in legal circles as The De Havilland Decision. In 1943, she came away from the soundstage when she sued Warner Bros. to gain freedom after her seven-year contract had expired. Back in those days, Hollywood lawyers would say that a contract should be considered suspended when the actor/actress was not working, meaning a seven-year contract would last much longer than that. De Havilland, took issue when the Warners tried to prolong her contract following her being suspended for rejecting roles she deemed inferior to where she was in her career. She sued the studio and, in 1945, won the case and became free from her contract and ensured that future artists would be limited to the calendar terms of their deals. “I was deeply gratified when, returning to MGM after his long and distinguished military service, Jimmy Stewart asked the court on the basis of that decision for a ruling on his contract — and thus the contracts of other actor-veterans — and received, of course, a favorable verdict,” de Havilland said in a 1992 interview with Screen Actor. “When I won the final round of my case on Feb. 3, 1945, every actor was now confirmed as free of his long-term contract at the end of its seven-year term, regardless of how many suspensions he had taken during those seven years. No one thought I would win, but after I did, flowers, letters and telegrams arrived from my fellow actors. This was wonderfully rewarding.” Olivia Mary de Havilland was born in Tokyo, Japan, on July 1, 1916, and she moved to California with her mother and sister when she was three years old. She went to Mills College in Oakland, and was signed to her first film by Max Reinhardt after performing in a Hollywood Bowl production of Midummer Night's Dream. Her sister, Joan Fontaine, was also an Academy Award-winning actress and died in December 2013 at the age of 96. De Havilland is survived by her daughter, Gisele, son-in-law Andrew, and niece Deborah. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Have a tip for us? Want to discuss a possible story? Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Logo Seemingly Leaked by Doritos Bag

A Doritos bag may have leaked the logo and name for the next Call of Duty, revealing that this new entry will be called Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. As reported by ModernWarzone.com, TheGamingRevolution received a DM that showcases the new Double XP promotion for what could be 2020's Call of Duty game that we have yet to hear about. Screenshot_2020-07-26 (1) TheGamingRevolution on Twitter These are the two Doritos Double XP promotional images that I was [...]Furthermore, it states that the promotion will begin on October 5, 2020, possibly hinting that Black Ops Cold War could be released in late October, that is if last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is any indication. Modern Warfare had a similar Double XP promotion that began on October 1, 2019, and the game was officially released on October 25, 2019. While there has yet to be any confirmation for 2020's Call of Duty, there have been reports that Black Ops Cold War is in-fact the name. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/20/reports-call-of-duty-2020-is-called-black-ops-cold-war"] Additionally, there have been leaks of a game called The Red Door that may be an alpha test for this latest Call of Duty. The description for The Red Door is as follows: "There is more than one truth. If you go looking for answers, be ready to question everything and accept that nothing will ever be the same. The Red Door awaits, do you dare step through it?" The current Call of Duty, Modern Warfare, is in its fourth season for both multiplayer and Warzone, and it is expected to end on August 4, 2020.
