Every Third-Party Studio Working on Xbox Series X Games

During today’s Inside Xbox livestream where the company showcased some of the first footage of third-party games coming to the next-gen Xbox Series X, head of Xbox partnerships Sarah Bond appeared to promise even more third-party games are coming. During a brief appearance, Bond explained how Xbox already lined up a huge roster of third-party developers and publishers who are working on games for the Series X. This includes studios like Bungie, Crytek, From Software, Larian Studios, and Remedy. “Every major publisher worldwide is developing for Xbox, and we already have hundreds, hundreds of games coming to Xbox in 2021,” Bond says. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=assassins-creed-valhalla-first-screenshots&captions=true"] Most of the developers on the list are likely developing multi-platform titles, but the list serves to highlight which developers are working on next-gen titles presently. Xbox has shown off 13 new games coming to Xbox Series X from third-party devs - you can see them all below. We've marked each one in the full list below.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/assassins-creed-valhalla-game-engine-reveal"] We got our first look at gameplay - or at least in-engine footage - for Ubisoft's next step in its historical action-stealth series, including siege warfare, a raven that could represent Odin, and much more. Smart delivery enabled.

Bright Memory Infinite

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/07/bright-memory-infinite-xbox-series-x-gameplay"] Bright Memory is a hybrid of FPS and action combat games already available on Steam, released as a first episode of a wider game. Bright Memory Infinite is that full game, combining traditional shooting with melee combat in a mystery-wracked futuristic world. Also, you can drive a car that looks suspiciously like a DeLorean. Amazingly, it's all developed by one man.

Call of the Sea

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/07/call-of-the-sea-announcement-trailer"] A first-person adventure game set in the 1930s, Call of the Sea has players step into the shoes of Norah exploring a South Pacific island in search of her missing husband. Smart delivery enabled.

Chorus

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/07/chorus-announcement-trailer"] Chorus is a space combat shooter with a difference, adding story to the genre's usual mix of aerial acrobatics and precision shooting. DiRT 5

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/07/dirt-5-announcement-trailer"] No console launch is complete without racing games, and Codemasters promises "new features, new innovations and a fresh approach" in the next installment of its excellent rally driving series. In an unusual development, Troy Baker and Nolan North will be lending their vocal talents to the game, as key characters in the game's storyline. Smart delivery enabled.

Madden NFL 21

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/07/madden-nfl-21-next-gen-announcement-trailer"] The first next-gen sports title shown by EA, Madden 21 brings football to new consoles in sparkling new form. Smart delivery enabled.

Second Extinction

The Medium

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/07/the-medium-announcement-trailer"] Bloober Team has specialised in psychological horror for years at this point, but The Medium sounds like another step forward for the Polish studio. Playing the titular medium, you'll see both the real and spirit worlds as you investigate a tragedy in a now-abandoned hotel. Excitingly, those two worlds come with separate soundtracks - one by Bloober Team’s Arkadiusz Reikowski and the other by Akira Yamaoka of Silent Hill. It will arrive thisHholiday 2020. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Gameplay Trailer Reveals Sieges

The very first in-game footage of Assassin's Creed Valhalla has been showcased by Microsoft as part of May's Inside Xbox presentation. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/07/assassins-creed-valhalla-game-engine-reveal"] While very short, the trailer includes gameplay - or, rather, in-engine - snippets that hint to longship combat, beach raids, and, most importantly, siege warfare. We can see Vikings approaching a Saxon castle, accompanied by massive siege equipment such as a battering ram for breaking down castle doors. It looks like the next step up from Assassin's Creed Odyssey's conquest battles. In a short interview after the trailer was shown, game director Ashraf Ismail promised that Assassin's Creed Valhalla will allow players to "assault giant fortifications in epic battles" which further hints towards siege warfare. He also said that you will be able to forge alliances with kings, suggesting some kind of political choice system. Combat has also been reinvented, and is said to be "visceral and brutal" - we see Eivor throw an axe at one point - and there is also a fresh take on progression. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=assassins-creed-valhalla-first-screenshots&captions=true"] Assassin's Creed Valhalla is the latest in Ubisoft's long-running series, and takes the action back to the Viking Age, focusing on the Norsemen invasion of Britain. For more, check out 37 Assassin's Creed Valhalla gameplay details and our first look at the game, featuring insights from game director Ashraf Ismail. Yakuza 7: Like a Dragon Announced for Western Release

Yakuza: Like a Dragon, a new spinoff in the popular Yakuza series will be released on Xbox Series X as a launch title. Yakuza: Like a Dragon will also support Xbox Series X Smart Delivery, meaning players who purchase the Xbox One version of the game will be eligible for a free upgrade to the Series X version. Like a Dragon follows a new protagonist named Ichiban Kasuga, the first main Yakuza protagonist since Kazuma Kiryuu. The setting also shifts from the fictional Kamurocho ward in Tokyo to the Isezaki Ijincho district of Yokohama. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/07/yakuza-like-a-dragon-next-gen-announcement-trailer"] The combat system has also been changed. Instead of a beat 'em up, Like a Dragon features turn-based RPG combat using a four-player team. But don't expect RPG-style attacks like lighting or frost. Players will still beat up enemies using their fists and nearby weapons. Yakuza: Like a Dragon was released in Japan back in January 2020 for PlayStation 4, but will be expanding to consoles like the Series X when it is released in the west. The full slate of planned platforms listed so far on the game's official website for Yakuza: Like a Dragon include Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4, but there has been no mention of a PS5 release.

Second Extinction Looks Like a Dinosaur Left 4 Dead From the Makers of Just Cause

Second Extinction has been revealed as part of the latest Inside Xbox presentation, and it's a Left 4 Dead-style co-op shooter from Avalanche Studios Group (Just Cause), developed by Systemic Reaction, the company's new self-publishing division. Most importantly, though: it's got dinosaurs. Second Extinction is a 3-player co-op shooter where players must wipe out a species of mutated dinosaurs that have taken over the planet. Developer Systemic Reaction promises a unique combination of weapons, abilities, and skills, as well as that all important "vast number of enemies" required for that true survival shooter feel. The game will revolve around players grouping up (although solo play is supported), picking a mission, landing planetside, completing objectives, running for extraction, and then using rewards to make upgrades and take on new, harder missions. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/07/second-extinction-announcement-trailer"] A press release on Xbox Wire explains a little of the story: "As the dinosaurs took over our planet, some people made their escape to an orbital station set up by a group called the ERA. Humanity has licked its wounds and now returns to find out more about this unbelievable enemy. This is where The Extinction War begins. Players pick from a roster of four survivors from around the world, a group that will continue to grow after launch." As that quote suggests, this is a live service title, and the game is designed to evolve over time. The game will take advantage of Xbox's Smart Delivery service. For more on Xbox Series X be sure to check out our wiki featuring a full list of rumored and confirmed Xbox Series X games and every game confirmed for Smart Delivery.
