Xbox Head on How Games in Early Development Could See Delays Due to Coronavirus
Xbox's Phil Spencer has commented on some of the unfortunate realities and challenges game developers are likely facing during the COVID-19 pandemic, which could lead to some development delays.
Speaking on Talking Games With Reggie & Harold, hosted by former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime and journalist Harold Goldberg, Spencer followed up on some recent comments and said that projects earlier on in development may see the worst of the production setbacks.
"Any of the functions that actually require physical collaboration, things like motion capture, things like symphonic capture… some of that is put on hold," Spencer said. "I think on the games side, things that are pre-content-complete might be impacted more than things that are post-content-complete."
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/22/ps5-vs-xbox-series-xs-games-next-gen-console-watch"]
Spencer added that Microsoft has had to find new ways to distribute quality assurance kits for the new Xbox Series X. Despite these challenges, Spencer said Microsoft still feels good about the Xbox Series X launching later this year.
"We've had to work through some challenges, but feel good about timelines, feel really good about this holiday," Spencer said.
These comments echo from Spencer's thoughts earlier this month, when he said that the Xbox Series X launch is "in line with where we thought we would be," but that game production is the "bigger unknown" moving forward.

Finally, Spencer reiterated that Microsoft is still aiming for a worldwide launch for the Xbox Series X.
Earlier this month, Xbox showed off 13 third-party games coming to Xbox Series X, and Microsoft has said we can expect news on first-party Xbox Series X games in July.
For more, take a look at every game confirmed for Xbox Series X so far, and which Xbox games you won't need to buy twice thanks to Smart Delivery.

It’s Always Sunny Will Be the Longest-Running Live-Action Comedy Series in History
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia has been renewed for a 15th season, which makes it the longest-running live-action comedy series in history.
As originally reported by Deadline, TV network FX revealed its television slate through 2021, including the historic renewal for It's Always Sunny. The comedy had previously been tied with ABC's The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet with its 14th season last year. The show's fifteenth season puts it ahead of that competition... and there's no real chance that Ozzie and Harriet ties again with It's Always Sunny again, as its final episode aired in 1966.

"How many years do I have on this planet?" It's Always Sunny star Rob McElhenney recently told IGN when asked about continuing the show. "I'll do it forever. If people keep watching it and we keep having fun, why would we ever stop? It's my dream job.
That paired with FX chairman John Landgraf's statement to Deadline about how FX was "actively talking" to some of the cast about another season for the show had fans excited at the prospect of a 15th season so it's nice to have the record-breaking season confirmed.
It's Always Sunny is a show about a gang of friends — McElhenney, Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson, Danny DeVito, and Glenn Howerton — and their going-ons in the city of Philadelphia. The show airs on FXX and is produced by FX Productions, RCG Entertainment and 3 Arts Entertainment. While the new season has been announced, it's unclear as to when fans of the show can expect episodes to begin airing, but considering it's on the slate of FX programming through 2021, we at least know it will air within the next TV season or so.

Dead by Daylight Silent Hill DLC Announced: First Details Here
Dead by Daylight has announced its latest crossover collaboration and this time, the collaboration is with an iconic horror video game franchise. Starting today on the public test server, Cheryl Mason and Pyramid Head from the Silent Hill series are available on Dead by Daylight as the new survivor and killer respectively.
Aside from a 2017 collaboration with Left 4 Dead that introduced Bill as a playable character, Dead by Daylight: Silent Hill is the first time a survivor and killer from another video game series have been added to Dead by Daylight.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=dead-by-daylight-silent-hill-screenshots&captions=true"]
Along with Cheryl (also known as Heather as she’s based on her Silent Hill 3 appearance) and Pyramid Head, a new map will also be added based on Midwich Elementary School from the first Silent Hill game. The new map will be playable for all players regardless of whether or not they purchase the Silent Hill DLC.
Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical PvP game pits four survivor players who must try and survive a killer, who is controlled by a fifth player. Both the killer and unique survivor have unique abilities which you can see in action in the gameplay footage below.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/26/dead-by-daylight-silent-hill-10-minutes-of-pyramid-head-gameplay"]
One of Pyramid Head’s strongest abilities is a power that creates a trench that summons the powers of Silent Hill. If a player chooses to go through the trench, possibly to save time, they will be afflicted with a new status ailment called “Tormented” which was created specifically for Pyramid Head. When a character is tormented, they will be instantly transported to a hook when captured by the killer, making this one of the game’s deadliest status ailments.
IGN spoke with Beahviour’s creative team including game director Mathieu Cote and creative director Dave Richard who shared a bit more about how Pyramid Head is unique in the world of Dead by Daylight.
Cote described Pyramid Head as being “judge, jury, and executioner” in Dead by Daylight as it can skip some of the steps required to “sacrifice” a survivor. Similarly, Cheryl will also have unique abilities with some that can only be activated when cursed.
The map is also reimagined but should be familiar to anyone who’s played the original Silent Hill. “It was absolutely amazing to work on Silent Hill,” said Richard. “We had a lot of choice of different iconic locations but we chose Midwich Elementary School from Silent Hill 1. For me, it’s really the first time you go deep into the world of Silent Hill when you go to that map and see how weird it can get.”
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=25-scariest-games-of-this-generation&captions=true"]
“Usually when we build a map out of a license in the world of [Dead by Daylight] it’s an interpretation of the location that the Entity builds in a specific way,” Richard explained. “But for Midwich we took attention to detail and wanted to replicate as much as we could about the map players already know about in Silent Hill 1.”
That means that while there are changes to the map, other portions are faithfully recreated. In a way, the Midwich Elementary map players explore in Dead by Daylight will be closer to how the map would look if Silent Hill 1 was remade using today’s technology. The new map will include both an indoor and outdoor segment, two stories, and merge the Silent Hill "Other World" elements into the map layout.
“We also packed it with secrets and winks to the series. So players will be able to discover all these little elements of puzzles, surprise, little jump scares that were in the original Silent Hill,” Richard says.
Behaviour worked closely with Konami to recreate Silent Hill faithfully in Dead by Daylight and series composer Akira Yamaoka has even done a new version of Dead by Daylight’s theme for the expansion in collaboration with series composer Michel April.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/10/22/dead-by-daylight-stranger-things"]
Another new feature coming with the Silent Hill expansion is Legendary Outfits. Unlike a traditional skin, a Legendary Outfit will change a survivor’s model completely, all the way to a new custom animation. While the survivor will still have the same stats and abilities, their appearance will be completely altered. In this case, a Lisa Garland outfit will be available for Cheryl.
When IGN asked how the collaboration came about, Mathieu Cote explained that Behaviour was already tangentially connected to Konami as the company handles the Japanese physical release of Dead by Daylight.
“We were already connected with some of the tentacles of Konami… They are the official publisher of the physical copy [of Dead by Daylight] in Japan. So we were connected to some of the people already,” says Cote.
After a call with Konami, Cote says “both sides realized it was a perfect fit” to crossover Silent Hill with Dead by Daylight. Cote says whenever Behaviour does a partnership, the new characters have to make sense for Dead by Daylight’s “rules” and vice versa. Meaning Leatherface in Dead by Daylight will behave like Leatherface from the movies, and the same goes for the Silent Hill series.
“In this case, we didn’t have to change much about how these [Silent Hill] characters act to make them fit well within our universe,” Cote says.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/10/30/silent-hill-2-tv-commercial"]
In the past, Dead by Daylight has collaborated with several iconic horror movies and introduced famous killers from movies like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Saw, Halloween, and more. Beahviour says it’s open to any collaboration, regardless of the medium as long as it fits with the Dead by Daylight world.
Dead by Daylight: Silent Hill is available now on the Public Test build on Steam and will be added to PC and consoles on June 16.

Doctor Strange Director Scott Derrickson to Make Labyrinth 2
The long-gestating follow-up to the 1986 fantasy-musical cult classic Labyrinth is moving ahead, with Doctor Strange's Scott Derrickson attached to direct.
According to Deadline, Derrickson will helm from a screenplay by Maggie Levin (Into the Dark) for The Jim Henson Company and TriStar Pictures. Derrickson confirmed the news via Twitter.
The late Jim Henson directed the original Labyrinth, which starred Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie. The movie followed a teenage girl named Sarah (Connelly) who had to navigate a fantastical maze in order to rescue her baby brother Toby from Bowie's Jareth the Goblin King.
Although a box office disappointment in its time, Labyrinth has maintained a cult following in the ensuing years thanks to comics, books, and games. George Lucas exec produced the original film, while Jim Henson's Creature Shop created the film's many elaborate puppets.
A Labyrinth sequel has been in development since 2014, with Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain Marvel's Nicole Perlman having scripted the previous draft.
Derrickson recently parted ways with Marvel Studios over directing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which Sam Raimi will now helm instead.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/doctor-strange-2-loses-director-scott-derrickson"]
In addition to Doctor Strange, Derrickson's film credits include Sinister, Deliver Us From Evil, The Day the Earth Stood Still, and The Exorcism of Emily Rose.
