Nintendo Confirms Account Hacks, Disables Nintendo Network ID Logins

Nintendo has confirmed that hackers have been accessing Nintendo Accounts, and pinned the problem down to a Nintendo Network ID login method. In a post on its Japanese website, Nintendo says that hackers were able to access user and password data for Nintendo Network IDs (NNID), then used that information to log in to Nintendo Accounts, and potentially make unauthorised purchases. The company estimates that around 160,000 NNIDs have potentially been affected. NNIDs are an older form of login for Nintendo services, created for 3DS and Wii U. The Switch uses newer Nintendo Accounts, but legacy NNIDs can be used to log in. In response, Nintendo has abolished NNID logins for Nintendo Accounts, and NNIDs and Nintendo Accounts that look to have been compromised will see automatic password resets. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/09/26/nintendo-switch-lite-review"] After widespread reports about unathorised access to Nintendo Accounts this week, the company said it was investigating the issue, and asked users to enable two-factor authentication for their accounts. The company now says that users who had the same password for both their NNID and Nintendo Account could have seen unauthorised payments on their account - if your purchase history includes payments you didn't make, Nintendo says to request to cancel the purchase, and it will respond. Nintendo explains that credit card information will not have been viewable for hackers, but warns that they could have had access to users' nickname, date of birth, country / region, gender, and email address, attached to both NNIDs and linked Nintendo Accounts. What remains unclear is exactly where the NNID login information has been obtained from. Nintendo's statement mentions only that it was obtained "by some means other than our service" at the beginning of April. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark Sequel in Development at Paramount

Paramount is said to be teaming up with Entertainment One to make a sequel to 2019's Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, with André Øvredal returning as the director. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman will also return to flesh out the script from a screen story written by Guillermo del Toro, who served as the producer on the first movie. As of right now, it's unclear whether he will return to that role. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/08/07/scary-stories-to-tell-in-the-dark-exclusive-red-spot-clip"] The first Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark movie was inspired by the iconic anthology series of horror tales, written by Alvin Schwartz and illustrated by Stephen Gammell, but story details for the sequel are being kept under wraps for now. "These books have now entertained three generations," del Toro previously told IGN about the process of adapting the source material. "A lot of fathers know that the stories are campfire stories basically. They have a factor of fun. None of them are gory. They're all creepy. They all have a humorous slant or very human. So we're trying to cultivate the same PG-13, but spooky and fun." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=best-reviewed-movies-of-2019&captions=true"] Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark was a big hit at the box office, with the PG-13 horror movie taking more than $105 million worldwide on a budget of just $28 million. In our review of the first movie, we noted that it likely wouldn't "satisfy hardcore horror hounds in the way they were hoping, but as a kids movie that also dedicates itself to being truly scary it both satisfies and succeeds as well as being occasionally surprising." Tintin Game in Development for PC and Consoles

A new Tintin action-adventure game is in development for PC and consoles. French publisher Microids has revealed a partnership with Moulinsart to develop and publish a new title based on The Adventures of Tintin comic book series. The game has been described as "an action-adventure" that will offer "a whirlwind of situations and suspense." As well as the eponymous Tintin and his sidekick pup Snowy, iconic series characters like Captain Haddock, detectives Thompson & Thompson and Professor Calculus will make an appearance. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2011/05/18/the-adventures-of-tintin-the-secret-of-the-unicorn-trailer"] In a press release, Stéphane Longeard, CEO of Microids notes that the studio has been "willing to make this happen for quite some time [...] Our team members are fans of the famous reporter and will do their best to pay this franchise a vibrant homage," the quote reads. Director of Moulinarts, Nick Rodwell added that the ambition of the partnership is "to provide a mainstream audience with a fun and friendly game for everyone to enjoy." The Tintin game is yet to receive a title, firm release date, or even specific release platforms - but the release asserts that these details and more will be revealed in due course. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/09/blacksad-under-the-skin-launch-trailer"] Microids previously worked on licenses such as Asterix & Obelix, Blacksad and Garfield, and are known for creating the Syberia series of adventure games. Many moons ago in 2011, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn launched on consoles as a tie-in to the film of the same name from Steven Spielberg. Check out our review of the game, which we thought was "hard to recommend to anyone other than diehard fans." [poilib element="accentDivider"] Jordan Oloman is a freelance writer for IGN. Parks and Rec Cast Reunite for Scripted TV Special

The cast of NBC's Parks and Recreation will reunite for a one-time scripted charity TV special, the network announced Thursday. The half-hour special -- to be shot from the cast's homes due to self-isolation -- is a fundraising benefit for the charity Feeding America. Pawnee civil servant Leslie Knope is "determined to stay connected to her friends in a time of social distancing," according to NBC's announcement. Confirmed returning cast members include Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, Chris Pratt, Adam Scott, Rob Lowe, Jim O’Heir, and Retta. “Like a lot of other people, we were looking for ways to help and felt that bringing these characters back for a night could raise some money,” said executive producer Michael Schur in a statement. “I sent a hopeful email to the cast and they all got back to me within 45 minutes. Our old Parks and Rec team has put together one more 30-minute slice of (quarantined) Pawnee life and we hope everyone enjoys it. And donates!” “In such uncertain times, we can’t think of anyone better than Leslie Knope to unite our country with her unbridled enthusiasm and compassion,” said Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, Co-Presidents of Scripted Programming, NBC Entertainment. “A huge thank you to Mike Schur and the cast of ‘Parks and Recreation’ for putting this wonderful special together and bringing a smile to all our faces while raising money for such a worthwhile cause.” [ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/02/26/why-parks-and-recreation-was-one-of-tvs-best-comedies-ign-conversation] The cast of the acclaimed sitcom, which ran from 2009 to 2015, previously reunited for a game show in 2017, and are also known to celebrate Galentine's Day together. There’s No WWE 2K Game This Year, WWE Says

WWE confirmed in today’s First Quarter earnings call that WWE 2K21 has been canceled. During a Q&A, WWE interim chief financial officer Frank Riddick revealed “there’s not going to be a launch of a game this year,” when asked about a new WWE 2K title. The confirmation follows rumors that WWE 2K21 was canceled this year. There’s been some turbulence with the WWE 2K series after WWE 2K20 was panned by critics for its poor performance, numerous glitches, and bugs. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-wwe-game-review-ever&captions=true"] Developer Visual Concepts also took over the WWE 2K series after long-time Japanese developer Yuke’s announced it would depart from the series to work on its own wrestling game. While there have been rumors that WWE 2K21 was canceled for weeks now, 2K Games has not commented on the situation. When IGN reached out to the developer earlier this month, the company responded that it would “not comment on rumors or speculation.” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/10/08/wwe-2k20-mycareer-trailer"] IGN has reached out to 2K again following today’s comments from WWE. Future LEGO Movies Could Include Jurassic Park, Fast & Furious

Universal Pictures and the LEGO Group have sealed an exclusive five-year deal "to develop, produce and distribute theatrical releases based on its intellectual property and original ideas," Universal announced Thursday. LEGO had previously made their movies at Warner Bros., including The LEGO Batman Movie. According to Deadline, the original two LEGO Movies, LEGO Batman Movie, and The LEGO Ninjago Movie all "remain in the Warner Bros library." Although Warners' original LEGO films grossed a combined $1.1 billion globally, each film following 2014's blockbuster The LEGO Movie saw sizable drops in their opening weekends and overall box office totals. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/02/10/lego-batman-is-one-of-the-best-reviewed-batman-movies-yet"] What's not completely clear is what rights, if any, Warners may have to continue exploiting or producing sequels to those movies they do have the rights to, or if Universal can use any LEGO Movie characters such as Emmet Brickowski, Wyldstyle, President Business, and the like since they were original creations for the Warners films. (IGN had reached out to Warners for clarification on the matter but had not heard back at time of publish.) According to Deadline, though, it does sound like that's that for any more LEGO Batman screen adventures. "When one of the LEGO films on the drawing board didn’t go forward, a ticking clock expired and the LEGO’s film business became a free agent," the site reports. "Branded IP with proven box office draw doesn’t come along often, and Universal pounced." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/09/21/kid-lego-fan-asks-ninjago-cast-the-tough-questions"] Warners' LEGO Movies utilized that company's deep bench of characters and world-famous IP beyond the aforementioned Batman, including a slew of other DC superheroes and villains as well as characters from Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Scooby-Doo, and Speed Racer. Likewise, Universal has many properties that could be exploited in their own LEGO Movies. Universal franchises include Jurassic Park, Fast and the Furious, Minions/Despicable Me, and The Secret Life of Pets, as well the iconic Universal Monsters (including The Mummy). Universal also has Back to the Future, Jaws, Insidious, E.T., The Purge, Woody Woodpecker, Casper the Friendly Ghost, American Pie, Battlestar Galactica, Jason Bourne, Psycho, An American Tail, Land Before Time, Smokey and the Bandit, and Dumb and Dumber. Universal and LEGO previously teamed on the TV special Jurassic World: The Secret Exhibit and the 13-episode mini-series LEGO Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar. LEGO and Universal have also teamed for a LEGO Jurassic World video game. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/09/18/lego-jurassic-world-launch-trailer"] “Universal’s commitment to unique storytelling from diverse voices makes the Studio the perfect partner as the LEGO Group enters this new phase of filmmaking,” said Jill Wilfert, Head of Entertainment, the LEGO Group. Do you want to see Dominic Toretto and the Bandit race each other in a new LEGO Movie? Or maybe a meet-up of the Jurassic Park and Mummy characters? The Insidious crew crossing paths with Casper? Sound off in the comments!

Battlefield 5 Won’t Receive Any More Major Content Updates After Summer

Battlefield 5 will no longer receive major content expansions following a new update scheduled for June, according to the game’s official Twitter account. In a new blog post, developer EA DICE announced that there will be a new update this summer following the conclusion of its current chapter, Into the Jungle, which was themed around the Pacific Theater. That chapter is set to end on April 29. The summer update won’t be a Chapter 7 expansion, but will instead be a standalone update with “some new content, weapons, and game tweaks.” After that, Battlefield 5 will be supported with new Weekly Missions but “otherwise have no further content planned beyond our updates to Community Games and ensuring healthy game performance.” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-battlefield-review&captions=true"] One of the updates arriving this summer is weekly Battlefield Currency or Company Coin rewards which will let players unlock past gear they may have missed. There will also be community events like the return of the #FridayNightBattlefield servers and Throwback Thursdays. Beyond that, it seems that EA DICE will be closing the book on Battlefield 5. The last military shooter from DICE took the action back to World War 2 after Battlefield 1 took place during World War 1. EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed there will not be a Battlefield game released in 2020. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/28/battlefield-v-into-the-jungle-overview-trailer"] For more, check out IGN’s Battlefield 5 review. EA also recently promoted Respawn’s Vince Zampella to oversee DICE LA, though that studio typically serves as a support studio and will branch out as an independent studio under Zampella. Borderlands 3 Mayhem Mode Is Expanded With New Rewards and Challenges

Borderlands 3 has announced two new free updates, one which expands the end-game called Mayhem Mode 2.0 and a limited-time event that takes you on a raid on an infamous cartel leader. The first free update is called Mayhem Mode 2.0 and it expands Borderlands 3’s endgame system with new challenges and rewards. Mayhem is a mode that unlocks after beating the main campaign for Borderlands 3 that lets players select random difficulty modifiers in exchange for better loot. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/04/23/borderlands-3-revenge-of-the-cartels-official-trailer"]

Mayhem 2.0 adds 25 new modifiers that range from potentially helpful, to more challenging like Drone Ranger which gives enemies a healing drone. Modifiers are rated from Easy, Medium, Hard, or Very Hard and there are 10 difficulty levels. Modifiers are chosen at random, but always from your chosen rating pool. Stats for weapon drops improve the higher the level, and starting at level 6 specific bosses can drop one of eight brand new Legendary weapons. There’s also a new Mayhem Mode options tab in your ECHO device menu.

The second free update is a new LTE called Revenge of the Cartels. Maurice gets into trouble from cartel kingpin Joey Ultraviolet and you’ll need to infiltrate his mansion Villa Ultraviolet to help your indebted crewmate. New Cartel enemies have spawned around the galaxy, defeat enough of them and you’ll earn the coordinates to Joey’s villa. When you get to the villa you’ll have to face one of three distinct factions of the Eridium Cartel, with each gang having their own unique Underbosses and Legendary loot pool. You’ll have to visit the villa multiple times to face each faction and their unique loot pool.

Gearbox says you’ll never face the same gang faction twice in a row. Additionally, there are 18 new limited-time challenges for Revenge of the Cartels that players can complete for cosmetic rewards.
