Amiibo-Like NFC Minecraft Toys Coming Later This Year
Minecraft has been a cultural phenomenon for over a decade now, and the augmented reality version Minecraft Earth is getting a line of adorable NFC figures from Mattel.
Revealed at Toy Fair, the figures, called Minecraft Earth Boost Minis, can be scanned in Minecraft Earth to unlock "Boosts," hence the name. Boosts unlock "a unique enhancement for a limited time" for Minecraft Earth Players, such as "increased tappable radius, decrease crafting time, XP increase, and increased health/attack damage/defense," among others.
There are three different boost levels: level 1 lasts 15 minutes, level 2 last 20, and level 3 last 25 minutes. Also, just activating a Boost from a Minecraft Boost Mini unlocks in-game XP.
Minecraft’s GM of Licensing & Partnerships Kayleen Walter calls them "simple and intuitive," and "just one example of how Minecraft Earth and Mattel are providing innovative Minecraft experiences."
The Minecraft Boost Minis will be available for purchase directly from Mattel, with a second-quarter 2020 release window.
Toy Fair is in full-effect this week, with tons of awesome announcements like a new 6" GI Joe line from Hasbro, as well as tons of Baby Yoda merch.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Will Include ‘All Airports on Earth’
2020's Microsoft Flight Simulator will include "all airports on Earth," ranging from countryside airstrips to international airports, according to developer Asobo Studio.
A total number of airports was not disclosed, though according to the CIA, as of 2013, there were over 40,000 airports in the world. As detailed on YouTube, the studio manually edited 37,000 of those airports to ensure accuracy — from the size and surface material of the runway to the precise location of the planes' parking spots.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=microsoft-flight-simulator-airports&captions=true"]
Not all airports have been given the same amount of attention; the 80 "most-played and busiest" airports are more detailed, according to Asobo. These airports feature official names for taxiways and more "accurate surface definition."
An even higher tier, dubbed the "most iconic airports" in the development video, have been "dressed up to reach a new level of realism in flight simulation." These airports feature "unique building and props matching reality" and terraformed landscapes that "nest [the airports] in their real environment."

IGN's Alex Simmons went hands-on with Microsoft Flight Simulator at XO19 and called it a "serene, calming experience [that] feels more like an exercise in mindfulness than a game."
For more on the promising flight sim, read up on how Microsoft Flight Simulator will deal with secretive areas, such as military bases and government research sites.

The Witcher Season 2 Production Begins, More Characters Announced
Netflix has just announced a bunch of new cast members for Season 2 of The Witcher, as production continues in the UK.
One of the most notable new additions to the cast is Fast and Furious 9's Thue Ersted Rasmussen, who will be playing Eskel, a witcher from the School of the Wolf who established an early friendship with Geralt of Rivia, having been raised alongside him.
He will be joining fellow witchers, Lambert and Coen, portrayed by Paul Bullion and Yasen Atour, respectively.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/21/the-witcher-season-1-ending-explained"]
Other new additions to the cast include Agnes Bjorn portraying Vereena, a lover of Nivellen, who is now confirmed to be played by Kristofer Hivju, along with Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia, Vilgefortz' sorceress secretary, and Mecia Simson as Francesca, the queen of the elves of Dol Blathanna.
Fans are likely to notice that Vesemir is absent from the list, which indicates that Geralt's wise and wizened instructor either does not make an appearance in the second season, the role has not been finalized or the announcement is being held back for a reveal at a later date.
"The reaction to season one of The Witcher set a high bar for adding new talent for the second season," said showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. "Sophie Holland and her casting team have once again found the very best people to embody these characters, and in the hands of these accomplished directors, we're excited to see these new stories come to life."

Returning to the cast for Season 2 are Henry Cavill, who leads The Witcher saga, playing the role of Geralt of Rivia, alongside Anya Chalotra (Yennefer), Freya Allan (Ciri), Joey Batey (Jaskier), MyAnna Buring (Tissaia), Tom Canton (Filavandrel), Lilly Cooper (Murta), Jeremy Crawford (Yarpin Zigrin), Eamon Farren (Cahir), Mahesh Jadu (Vilgefortz), Terence Maynard (Artorius), Lars Mikkelson (Stregobor), Mimi Ndiweni (Fringilla Vigo), Royce Pierreson (Istredd), Wilson Radjou-Pujalte (Dara), Anna Shaffer (Triss Merigold), and Therica Wilson Read (Sabrina).

Umbrella Academy's Stephen Surjik will direct the first two episodes of the second season, followed by Sarah O'Gorman for episodes 3 and 4, Ed Bazalgette for episodes 5 and 8, and Geeta V. Patel for episodes 6 and 7.

Kerbal Space Program 2 Gets a New Developer
Development of Kerbal Space Program 2 has moved from Star Theory Games to a newly formed, KSP-dedicated studio, publisher Private Division announced Friday. The new studio is owned by Private Division parent company Take-Two Interactive.
Jeremy Ables, former studio head at Star Theory, will step into the same role at the new, currently unnamed studio. Joining him from Star Theory are Kerbal Space Program 2 creative director Nate Simpson and lead producer Nate Robinson, according to Gamesindustry.biz.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=kerbal-space-program-2-announcement-trailer-gallery&captions=true"]
"The decision to open our own studio and move development in-house allows us to provide the development team with the necessary time and resources to complete development of KSP 2 at the quality level we all want to deliver our players," said Private Division. "Our goal — and the goal of our developers — is to provide our community with the highest level gaming experience with Kerbal Space Program 2."
Take-Two acquired KSP in 2017. The sequel was then announced at Gamescom 2019 with Star Theory (formerly Uber Entertainment) as its developer. Original KSP developer Squad has been continuing to work on the first game.
IGN spoke with Simpson shortly after that Gamescom reveal. The creative director said Kerbal Space Program 2 will be more accessible to newcomers without being less challenging for core KSP players.
Kerbal Space Program 2 is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC during Take-Two's fiscal year 2021 (April 2020–March 2021).

Snake Eyes, More Joes Coming in New 6-inch G.I. Joe Line
You may have already heard rumors of a new, 6" G.I. Joe figure line, and this morning Hasbro confirmed it is, in fact, readying an all-new series of Joe's for 2020.
The G.I. Joe Classified line are 6" figures inspired by the 1980s G.I. Joe 3.75" figures, but are so very much better. Take a look at Snake Eyes, Roadblock, and Scarlett in the gallery below:
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=new-gi-joe-classified-series-figures-unveiled-at-toy-fair&captions=true"]
Snake Eyes, everyone's favorite G.I. Joe ninja, comes with an "Arashikage Ninja Clan-inspired gear storage rack" for all his ninja gear, like his katana, sai, ninja stars and decidedly non-ninja submachine gun. Snake Eyes' packaging includes "foil effects and original artwork from Tracie Ching and Miq Willmott," and should be out sometime later this year. Check out a behind the scenes look at the Snake Eyes and the packaging in this video from Hasbro.
Scarlett comes with a crossbow and a whole grip of knives, and the packaging for the figure has art by Phil Noto. Roadblock comes with a "heavy artillery blaster" and package art by Mike Thompson and Ken Lashley. All three figures include multiple articulation points and Scarlett and Roadblock can be preordered directly from Hasbro Pulse beginning tomorrow, February 22 at 4 pm ET/1 pm PT, as well as the usual retailers you'd expect. The preorder page for Roadblock will be live at Amazon and Scarlett can be preordered from Amazon or Walmart in addition to Hasbro Pulse.
Snake Eyes, on the other hand, can be preordered right now, and ONLY from Hasbro Pulse. Snuck up on you, didn't he? That's the way of the ninja, my friends.
Hasbro has been busy this Toy Fair, introducing a new set of Transformers: WFC figures to coincide with the upcoming animated Netflix series.

Watch the Intense Opening Credits for Al Pacino’s Hunters
If you're looking for another blood-soaked action series with comic book sensibilities while you're waiting for Season 2 of The Boys, Amazon is likely hoping that its new Al Pacino-fronted thriller, Hunters, makes it onto your watchlist.
Centered around a group of Nazi hunters in 1970s New York, led by Pacino's Meyer Offerman (who recruits Logan Lerman's naive young comic book aficionado, Jonah Heidelbaum, to the cause), Hunters was created by David Weil, who was inspired by his grandmother, a Holocaust survivor, to tell a fantastical but all-too relevant tale about a young Jewish kid who is able to reclaim power from his oppressors.
"She would tell me stories about her time during the war. And as a young kid, five, six years old, hearing those stories, they felt like the stuff of comic books and superheroes. And as I got older I struggled with that feeling of birthright: What was my responsibility now to continue her story? So many Holocaust survivors are no longer with us and that community is growing smaller and smaller by the year," Weil pointed out during Amazon's presentation at the Television Critics Association winter press tour. "And so for me this was a love letter to my grandmother. It was a quest to don that vigilante cape in the face of rising antisemitism in the world, racism, xenophobia. It was a desire to shed light on hidden crimes and hidden truths. And it was also kind of a desire to create a sense of catharsis and wish fulfillment for a young Jewish kid growing up on Long Island who wanted to see superheroes who looked like him on screen."
IGN has an exclusive sneak peek at the show's stylized opening credits, showing Meyer's band of hunters set against the Nazi leaders who have infiltrated US society, including those played by Dylan Baker and Lena Olin.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/02/20/amazons-hunters-watch-the-intense-opening-credits"]
The cast also includes Jerrika Hinton, Josh Radnor, Carol Kane, Tiffany Boone, Greg Austin, Louis Ozawa, Kate Mulvany, and Saul Rubinek, and was executive produced by Jordan Peele through his Monkeypaw Productions banner, alongside executive producer Nikki Toscano and Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, who directed the first episode.
Pacino also shared what attracted him to the TV series when speaking to critics: "There’s an originality in this show and it’s somewhat eccentric. And all of a sudden you’ll see it from certain angles... There are a lot of elements in it that catch you off guard, and that’s part of the interest. It holds your interest because you never know when a joke is going to come," he said. "That was what really appealed to me when I read it, that there was this element [that] things are not what they seem."

Fans Made a ‘Hot Coffee’ Mod for Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2 now lets PC players grab a cup of “Hot Coffee,” if you catch my drift. But if you weren’t around for the halcyon days of 2005 then strap yourself in, because this is kind of funny.
The mod is a reference to the infamous “Hot Coffee mod” from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It’s a mod that allowed players to take control of the protagonist CJ as they have sex with one of his girlfriends. The encounter was originally designed as a minigame but the developers eventually decided to keep the content hidden. It would not be unlockable at all through gameplay.
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=every-ign-rockstar-game-review-ever&captions=true"]
Instead, it took until a year later in 2005 when San Andreas released on Windows that modders were able to unlock the previously blocked content. While the mod is decidedly un-sexy and awkward, it created a pretty big scandal, and San Andreas became rated AO for Adults Only.
Unlike the San Andreas mod, the Hot Coffee mod for Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t unlocked content the devs kept hidden, but a deliberate homage. The mod lets players take control of Arthur Morgan during his boozy trip to the saloon where he can woo one of the patrons and take them back to a hotel room. Like in San Andreas, the Red Dead Redemption 2 version of the mod is also not sexy, and all characters involved are clothed, and the voice lines are just generic ones from the game repurposed for the mod.
Although the mod is clearly a joking reference to an older era of Rockstar Games, the developer and publisher Take-Two are reportedly unhappy with it. One of the modders confirmed to PCGamesN that they were contacted by Take-Two to take down the mod. This isn't surprising considering Take-Two had to settle with the FTC following the fallout of the hot coffee mod, and later versions of the game completely removed the content.
[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/10/17/red-dead-redemption-2-pc-trailer"]
There was some question about whether or not Red Dead Redemption 2 would support mods on PC ahead of its release, but Rockstar declined to comment on the matter. But it appears now that the PC version can support mods, even if the developers don’t approve of them.
While we won’t link to the mod, it’s not hard to find with a little help from the internet. Meanwhile, check out IGN’s Red Dead Redemption 2 review and Red Dead Redemption 2 wiki for more of our coverage.
