With the CW's Arrow entering its final few episodes, the Queen family still has a lot to offer Star City — and so do the Canaries. The CW has revealed the description for the Arrow penultimate episode, which will serve as a backdoor pilot for the new Canaries spinoff series.
Reported by Deadline, the Canaries backdoor pilot, titled "Green Arrow and the Canaries," will feature Katherine McNamara's Mia Smoke and will be set in Star City in the year 2040. Airing on the CW on January 21, Mia's life will be interrupted by Katie Cassidy's Laurel Lance and Juliana Harkavy's Dinah Drake, who need Mia's help tracking down a kidnapping victim.
The New Mutants: Director’s Original Cut Is Being Released in Theaters
After several delays, The New Mutants will finally hit theaters in April, and when it does, it will be director Josh Boone's original cut.
A fan on Instagram asked Boone if the theatrical cut of New Mutants will be his "og version," to which the director replied, "I wouldn't be promoting it here if it wasn't."
James Gunn Purportedly Confirms He Passed on Directing Superman Movie
Apparently, James Gunn has confirmed that he passed on directing a new Superman movie for Warner Bros. in favor of taking on The Suicide Squad.
This information should be taken with a grain of salt because it was revealed in a now-deleted Instagram story that was screen-captured and posted on reddit. The post (via Newsarama) allegedly written by Gunn read: "As has been reported many times, DC offered me whatever film I wanted to do, including some sort of Superman movie (not specifically Man of Steel 2 as I've seen reported). I chose The Suicide Squad because it's one of my favorite properties in the world. It's the story I wanted to tell more than any other."
The Rise of Skywalker Has Deleted Scenes Explaining How Palpatine Survived
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker leaves fans with some lingering questions, including a few that can only be answered if you pick up the recently released Visual Dictionary. But when it comes to one of the movie's biggest mysteries - how Emperor Palpatine survived the events of Return of the Jedi - the answer is locked away in deleted footage.
In an interview with HuffPost (via CBR), editor Maryanne Brandon reveals Episode IX was originally supposed to have shed more light on Palpatine's return. But ultimately, the scenes dealing with the hows and whys of Palpatine's return were trimmed in order to prevent fans from being bombarded with exposition.
Mother 4 Fan Project Renamed to Oddity but It Still Looks Like a Worthy Successor
For years a group of developers has been working hard on making an unofficial sequel to Mother 3 called Mother 4. But after a wave of DMCA takedowns from Nintendo, the team went underground but resurfaced recently after rebranding its project as Oddity.
Although Oddity is no longer the unofficial Mother 3 sequel, it’s still influenced by the series. A new trailer shows gameplay that’s quite similar to the original Game Boy Advance Mother 3 gameplay. But technical flourishes and graphical improvements also show that this is a modern video game production. You can watch the trailer here.

The 10 Best Action Games of All Time
I don’t know about you, but there’s nothing that gets my blood pumping when it comes to video games quite like a good action game. And no, I’m not talking games with action, I’m aiming my crosshair at a very specific type of game here.
Games with a central and essential focus on combat, and while I’m primarily talking about combat of the up close and personal variety, there’s room here for some gunplay as well. So sit back and settle in, because these are the 10 best action games of all time.
10. Ninja Gaiden 2
Back in 2008, it was hard to even imagine an action game that was faster and more frenetic than the original rebooted Ninja Gaiden on Xbox, but then in came Ninja Gaiden 2. Despite holding on to the same core combat system of light and heavy attacks and fighting game-esque combo inputs as its predecessor, Ninja Gaiden 2 actually had a much different feel to it. It was much more linear, the action was almost non-stop, and a new health system would restore your health at the end of every combat encounter up to a certain point, leading to these intense struggles where the end of every battle was an absolute relief. The level design wasn’t quite as strong as the first go around, but the slick animations, smooth action, and rewarding combat of Ninja Gaiden 2 are enough to sneak it onto this list.

In an interview with HuffPost, Brandon addressed the major scene between Rey and Kylo Ren towards the end of Episode IX - in which the pair share a passionate kiss before Ren, having redeemed himself and accepted his former life as Ben Solo, disappears to become one with the Force - explaining how the team reached that conclusion.

Valve’s Cancelled Portal Prequel Revealed in Video Series
Valve’s cancelled prequel to its hit 2007 puzzle game Portal has been revealed properly for the first time thanks to indie developer LunchHouse Software.
The original code for Aperture Camera, Valve’s cancelled prequel to Portal, has been provided to LunchHouse Software in order to help them create a video series about its development. The series, called Exposure, reveals and discusses the core game mechanics of this lost prequel, which was based upon photography.
The first video in the series demonstrates the player using a camera to take pictures of objects and then resize and reposition them in the world. This mechanic is used to solve puzzles and move through a series of rooms.
