The Lion King Remake Now Available on Disney+

Disney has added The Lion King remake to Disney+, allowing fans to watch Jon Favreau's take on the 1994 classic whenever they wish. The remake, which passed Frozen to become the highest-grossing animated film of all time with earnings of over $1.3 billion worldwide, joins the original on Disney's streaming platform. In our review of The Lion King, we said "Disney delivers their most successful remake yet. A strong cast, outstanding visuals, and the classic animal-centric take on Hamlet make this infinitely more watchable than some of the studio's previous retellings." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/07/11/the-lion-king-2019-review"] The Lion King arrives shortly before February, which will see such additions to Disney+ as Toy Story 4, season 7 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the second and final season of Star Wars Resistance, and much more. The Lion King was one part of Disney's successful 2019 that saw the company become the first studio to surpass $10 billion at the worldwide box office. Such other films as Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel, Toy Story 4, Aladdin, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker helped achieve this milestone. For more on The Lion King remake, check out seven cool facts on how the movie was made, including that it was filmed inside a VR video game. The Thing: Universal and Blumhouse Collaborating on New Remake

Universal Studios and Blumhouse Productions are developing a remake of The Thing, which will adapt the long lost pages of the horror classic's original science-fiction novel. According to Bloody Disgusting, the two studios are teaming up for a big-screen adaptation of the novella Who Goes There?, penned by John W. Campbell Jr., though this time the story will contain some new content from the never-before-seen, expanded version of the novel, titled Frozen Hell. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2012/03/12/the-thing-evolves-building-monsters"] "It's OFFICIAL!" producer Alan Donnes reportedly wrote in a Facebook post on Friday. "I received my signed contract and first check! I am Executive Producing a remake of THE THING but with additional chapters of John Campbell's groundbreaking novel, Frozen Hell, that had been lost for decades. Now, for the first time ever, Campbell's full vision will be realized on the big screen. The new film will include the very best of RKO's THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, John Carpenter's classic THE THING and both books, Frozen Hell and Who Goes There?" John Betancourt announced the discovery of the unpublished, full-length version of the classic novella back in 2018, as he launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the release of Frozen Hell, claiming it offers "vital backstory and context to an already incredible tale." Betancourt recently shared an update on the fully-funded project, telling his supporters about the forthcoming film adaptation of Frozen Hell. In a post on Monday, he wrote, "The movie will be from Universal and Blumhouse. Everyone is super excited about it, and it's being fast-tracked. This is just the tip of the iceberg of what's going on with Who Goes There?, Frozen Hell, and The Thing in Hollywood. I can't talk about the rest yet, but it's very exciting -- and if all goes as planned, the Thing will be alive and well for quite a while." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-25-best-horror-movies&captions=true"] The original Antarctic horror story has spawned three previous film adaptations; the first being Howard Hawks' 1951 classic The Thing from Another World and the second being John Carpenter's iconic 1982 film The Thing. In 2011, a prequel to the Carpenter feature, also titled The Thing, was released to box office disappointment. In our review of the prequel, we recognized the casts' efforts "to make the material come alive and to create palpable tension" but ultimately decided that "the last act crystallizes everything that's wrong with this Thing: It simply runs amok looking to scare you by aping what it had done so much better before." Star Trek: Picard’s Patrick Stewart Explains Why Jean-Luc Has a Dog

Star Trek: Picard star Patrick Stewart has shared the story behind his new Number One, explaining why Jean-Luc has a canine companion in the new series and how they settled on a pit bull for the pint-sized part. Speaking to StarTrek.com, Stewart opened up about the creative decision of adding a dog to the cast line-up of the Star Trek show, as he suggested Picard's four-legged friend serves to reveal something deeper about the retired captain of the Enterprise. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/patrick-stewart-why-did-picard-leave-starfleet"] "I wanted a dog because I have, only in the last four years, renewed my acquaintance with dogs," Steward confessed in the interview. "I had a dog, a border collie, when I was little and nothing since then. I thought all we need to do is to have a dog at Picard's side. And that, without any dialogue or any dramatic reference, will say a lot about this man, that he now has a dog always at his side." As an avowed pit bull rescue enthusiast, Stewart revealed he had some influence over the decision of which breed was going to be selected for the Admiral's pet, admitting his strong association with pit bulls helped to determine the outcome. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/01/12/star-trek-the-picard-shows-timeline-explained"] "Well, I am obsessed with pit bulls. What a dog, and how ill-used they have been, appalling used," he explained. "In England, they're a banned breed. I adopted my first pit bull and we already were excited about the thought of taking her back to England, and we couldn't do it. They won't be let in the country. I even talked to the British Embassy in Washington about it and they said, 'There's nothing we can do.' "I'm now part of a campaign working in the UK to get this legislation changed because they are the most sensitive, the most loving, the most giving, the most affectionate creatures that you could ever possibly hope to meet." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=star-trek-picard-photos&captions=true"] In the new series, Picard awards his pooch the affectionate nickname of "Number One", as a reference to the informal title of a second-in-command officer aboard a Starfleet ship. In the original Star Trek: The Next Generation, William Riker (played by Jonathan Frakes) starred as the second-in-command to Picard and was frequently referred to as Number One. Dying Light: Bad Blood Is Now Free to All Dying Light Players

Techland has announced that all owners of Dying Light are able to redeem a free copy of Dying Light: Bad Blood on PC. This comes just a week after Techland revealed that Dying Light 2 has been delayed indefinitely.

“As a token of appreciation for our amazing community, we are pleased to offer a free copy of Dying Light: Bad Blood to every Survivor eager to expand their Dying Light experience,” Techland wrote in the announcement.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/09/17/10-minutes-of-brand-new-dying-light-bad-blood-gameplay"]

In order to get a free copy of Bad Blood, you need to head to the Dying Light dockets site, either login or register an account, and then link your Steam, PlayStation, or Xbox account if you haven’t already.

Once that’s done, and you own Dying Light on the platform you linked, a banner should appear on the website that says you’re eligible for a free copy of Dying Light: Bad Blood on PC. Just click on that banner and follow the instructions to get your Steam code.

Bad Blood takes the gory zombie parkour of Dying Light and gives it a battle royale style twist. Each match starts with 12 players but only one can be the winner. Players search the map for weapons and upgrades, and can choose to team up with other players to fight zombies, or battle each other - they’ll have to eventually if they want to win.

[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=dying-light-2-e3-trailer-screenshots&captions=true"]

Unfortunately, Bad Blood didn’t attract many players when it debuted on Steam Early Access back in 2018. But with many players able to pick it up for free now it should have a larger head count.

The Batman Starts Filming With Set Photo From Director Matt Reeves

Director Matt Reeves revealed that The Batman movie has begun filming with a picture from the set. The caption reads “#DayOne #TheBatman” and Reeves tagged Greg Fraser, the film’s director of photography. matt reeves The tweeted image shows a slate with the movie title and date, and it’s resting in a brown leather chair, which certainly conjures imagery of stately Wayne Manor. Could the first day of shooting feature a scene with Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne inside his family estate? Given that this movie is essentially a reboot, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if they started from the beginning in a familiar location. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-batman-cast-every-actor-and-character&captions=true"] There’s been much chatter about The Batman as of late. Penguin/Oz Cobblepot actor Colin Ferrel praised Reeves’ script, calling it "a really, really beautiful, dark, moving script, really gorgeous." Meanwhile, Catwoman actress Zoe Kravitz shared what most excites her about her feline character. Joining Pattinson’s Caped Crusader in the cast of The Batman is Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton / The Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro as Gotham City mobster Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as an unknown character, and Jayme Lawson as mystery character “Bella.” For more info on The Batman, check out our roundup of the cast, release date, plot, and more. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’s Exegol Battle Featured These Animated Series Ships

This article contains some spoilers for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Three familiar animated ships were featured during the Exegol battle in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. You may have missed them but, according to a tweet by Lucasfilm creative art manager Phil Szostak quoting Pablo Hidalgo from Lucasfilm Story Group, the Fireball, Jarek Yeager's racer, and Torra Doza's ship all arrive with Lando during that huge battle. Szostak also links to a post on the StarWars website which explains in further detail how the three ships, which are a part of the Star Wars Resistance animated series, ended up there. For fans of the series who were wondering how the Fireball can be there, it turns out the droid Bucket is flying the craft. Update: Beast Wars Transformers Movie Reportedly in Development

After releasing five films in the franchise, Paramount Pictures is reportedly planning to revamp the Transformers series with two new scripts in development. Sources tell Variety that Paramount Pictures has tasked Murder Mystery's James Vanderbilt and Army of the Dead's Joby Harold with creating two new Transformers scripts for two separate films. However, there has not been any official announcement from Paramount Pictures at the time of writing. Update: A report from Deadline says that Vanderbilt's Transformers film is based on franchise spin-off Beast Wars: Transformers, the hit animated series beloved by fans that ran from 1996-1998 featuring Transformer factions Maximals (including the likes of Optimus Primal, Rattrap, and Cheetor) and Predacons (Megatron, Waspinator, Tarantula) battling on a prehistoric Earth. The original story continues below. The Transformers franchise launched in 2007 and is worth an estimated 4 billion dollars. The most recent film, Bumblebee, received a fair amount of critical acclaim and pulled in over $450 million in box offices worldwide. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=dumbest-transformers-movie-moments&captions=true"] It is currently unclear if either of the upcoming films will be set in the same universe as Bumblebee, or if the series will be receiving a fresh start. While little is known about the upcoming Transformers revamp, Variety sources state that it will aim to open up the door for upcoming additions to the franchise. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/12/09/bumblebee-review"] At this time, neither script has a director or cast attached to it. Further, it's likely that the series revamp will feature a brand-new set of cast members according to Variety, but again, no announcements have been made at this time. While you're waiting for more news on the potential Transformers revamp, be sure to check out our review of Bumblebee. Torchlight Frontiers Is Now Torchlight 3, Can Be Played Offline

The previously announced Torchlight Frontiers, which was previously announced as an action MMORPG, will be scaled back into a more traditional ARPG. As such, Perfect World Entertainment and developer Echtra Games announced that Torchlight Frontiers is being renamed as Torchlight 3. “During development, you often discover what type of product a game was meant to be and we found Torchlight Frontiers was meant to be a true successor to Torchlight 1 & 2,” said Echtra Games CEO Max Schaefer. “Based on this and extensive feedback from our Alpha testers, we decided it was time to take the game back to its roots and model it after the classic Torchlight games that ARPG fans have come to love.” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/08/09/torchlight-frontiers-announcement-trailer"] Torchlight Frontiers was announced back in 2018 as a shared-world action-RPG where players can crawl through dungeons together. IGN came away with a positive impression of the shared world when we previewed Torchlight Frontiers in 2018. However, Echtra seems to believe that a more traditional approach is in order. Instead of going free-to-play, Torchlight 3 will be a purchasable game title with full access to all the playable content. So basically a traditional game release. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/08/20/torchlight-frontiers-gameplay-reveal-trailer"] Furthermore, Torchlight 3 will be playable online or off and feature a more linear structure similar to the first two Torchlight games. Torchlight 3 still has online multiplayer and character classes: The Dusk Mage, Forged, and Railmaster. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Matt Kim is a reporter for IGN. You can reach him on Twitter.

Will Marvel’s Next Avengers Villain Be… Moon Knight!?

Though Moon Knight may be a bit of a loner with a more brutal approach to justice than most, he’s still always been a hero. That appears to be changing with April’s Avengers #33, which writer Jason Aaron teased with a blog post titled “Moon Knight vs. the Avengers this April.” That issue marks the start of the "Age of Khonshu" arc pitting Marc Spector against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Why is Moon Knight facing off against his former allies? Aaron doesn’t reveal that detail, but he does promise that this story will showcase why Moon Knight is a force to be reckoned with. “If you've ever wanted to see Moon Knight at his most badass, taking on the most powerful, primordial forces of the Marvel Universe, with all his moon-powered fury, then this is the world-shaking, face-breaking arc for you,” Aaron wrote. [caption id="attachment_2293462" align="aligncenter" width="720"]Avengers #33 art by Matteo Scalera. Interior art will be drawn by Javier Garrón. (Image courtesy of Marvel Comics) Avengers #33 art by Matteo Scalera. Interior art will be drawn by Javier Garrón. (Image courtesy of Marvel Comics)[/caption] The story starts when a series of supernatural disturbances start to pop up across the Marvel Universe. “Mummies are rising from their graves. Secret armies march by moonlight, from K’un-Lun to Wakanda to Greenwich Village. A dark god invades Asgard. And the Moon Knight has been unleashed as never before. So begins the Age of Khonshu. So fall the Avengers,” the blog post teases. “This arc has been the main focus of my 2020 so far,” Aaron added. “I'm looking for it to set the tone for everything I wanna do in the Marvel U going forward. In case you can't tell, I'm pretty damn excited about this one.” [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=20-most-anticipated-comics-of-2020&captions=true"] Since Marvel Studios revealed that a Moon Knight show will debut on Disney+, interest in the character has been on the rise, so it’s either lucky happenstance or a well-planned act of corporate synergy that Moon Knight is now the force of antagonism in the next big Avengers comic arc. The subtitle “Age of Khonshu” (named for the Egyptian moon god who empowers Moon Knight) is of course reminiscent of “Age of Apocalypse” and “Age of Ultron,” so Aaron is clearly aiming to evoke the same kind of menace that those iconic villain stories bring with them. Will this inform how Moon Knight is introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? It’s hard to say at this point, but Aaron’s comics work has influenced previous MCU movies -- for example, elements of his Thor villain Gorr the God Butcher (co-created with Esad Ribic) was used for Cate Blanchett’s Hela -- so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see more of his ideas show up on screen. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/01/27/9-facts-and-1-lie-doom-franchise"] In other Marvel news, the release date for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was moved up, we learned just how sci-fi The Eternals will be, and a pair of animated shows were given the axe at Hulu.
