How The Witcher 3 Inspired Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia

With the premiere of Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher dropping on December 20, 2019, we sat down with leading-man Henry Cavill to ask him how he discovered the voice for Geralt of Rivia.

Cavill informed us (for the full interview, check out the video above) that he initially went with something "very similar to" his natural accent but quickly realized that it didn't fit with who he believed Geralt to be. "I had to show the truth of what Geralt is on the outside," Cavill explained. "And straightaway, it couldn’t be the flowery language he uses to talk to a king or a queen or a lord."

The British-born actor credits Doug Cockle's iconic voice-over performance of Geralt in the video game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as well as Peter Kenny's narration of Andrzej Sapkowski's novels for the English audiobook versions. But in the end, Cavill found his voice in both Cockle's, and his own:

Henry Cavill Wants to Focus on the ‘Future of Superman’

In a recent press tour for Netflix's The Witcher series, Henry Cavill revealed that he hasn't seen the Snyder Cut and doesn't know if one exists. He further elaborated that he'd love to see the cut if there is one, but would rather focus on the future of Superman instead of the past.

During his interview with Kevin McCarthy, Cavill said, "I have not seen any Snyder Cut – I don't know if there is anything that exists that is a Snyder Cut. I'm sure there is footage out there which has probably been pieced together over the years. I'm always interested to see how that stuff turns out, but that is very much a chapter of my past. I would rather talk about what is going to happen in the future – the future of Superman, how I can express that character from the comic books. Which, ties in nicely to Man of Steel, I really like that movie, and I'd like to be able to tell the story where it was left at that point."
