Cyberpunk-ish MMORPG Corepunk Announced for PC

Corepunk, a new top-down MMORPG for PC from Dutch developer Artificial Core that gives off vibes of cyberpunk, Diablo, and Ultima Online, will get an open-beta launch in 2020.

Corepunk features "a seamless open world with miles of wilderness to get lost in" and, as you can see in the announcement/gameplay overview trailer, has a unique look and, with any luck, gameplay loop. Said gameplay will include unique fighting styles and abilities, and Artificial Core also promises a full in-game economy, crafting, and trading in-game items. Furthermore, the developer says, "branching quests and alternate endings guarantee that no playthrough will be exactly alike."

Distance from your opponent will factor heavily into combat, with a fog-of-war system complementing that and requiring careful strategy. PvP battles will be available in addition to the PvE core, and you can expect the usual MMO staples like fleshed-out towns, guilds, farms, instanced dungeons, and more. “Corepunk represents a synthesis of our favorite settings and themes from science fiction,” says Corepunk producer Eugene Kiver. “Over the course of five years, we’ve expanded our team to over 100 people to ensure our vision of the ultimate futuristic fantasy comes to life. We can’t wait to have MMORPG fans live out their technocratic dreams with us.”

Donkey Kong 64 Once Had a Realistic Shotgun That Horrified Miyamoto

During development, Donkey Kong 64 had its titular ape star equipped with a shotgun, which reportedly horrified legendary Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto when he first saw it.

Given the upbeat, family-friendly tone of Donkey Kong 64 this is surprising to hear, but the story comes from George Andreas who worked for Rare when the studio was developing Donkey Kong 64 twenty years ago. To celebrate the game’s anniversary, he spoke to GamesRadar about bringing the game to life, and the tale of the shotgun is one of the stories that particularly stands out.

All the Ghostbusters: Afterlife Clues That Point to Gozer’s Return

The team who you’re gonna call is not QUITE back in the first trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, but there are plenty of clues that point towards the return of an old friend.

First up we get this symmetrical book stacking just like the Philadelphia mass turbulence of 1947 AND the New York Public Library in the original Ghostbusters film. While this isn’t a trademark of Gozer, it did mark the beginning of a very busy time for ghosts in 1984 that culminated in the return of the Gozerian.

Of course, the most telling clue is the Shandor Mining Company. Ivo Shandor was the architect and Gozer worshipper who designed Dana Barrett’s apartment complex on central park west. That building was an antenna of sorts, a gateway to bring Gozer into our world. It would seem that Ivo Shandor had another location that served a similar purpose as the one in Manhattan.

Crisis on Infinite Earths Resurrects the Lazarus Pit to Save [Spoiler]

This story contains spoilers for "Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part 1 and 2," aka Supergirl Season 5, Episode 9 and Batwoman Season 1, Episode 9. Check out our review of "Crisis on Infinite Earth Part 2" and interview with Lex Luthor himself, Jon Cryer.

The Arrowverse's fearless leader, Oliver Queen, died during “Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 1.” His death came as quite a shock to both his daughter Mia, his fellow heroes, and likely plenty of viewers at home who were watching the Crisis unfold. Oliver sacrificed his life to save billions of people on Kara’s world of Earth-38, just as the anti-matter wave consumed the planet. The Monitor was able to bring Oliver’s body back to Earth-1, but he didn’t survive the battle.
