Settlers of Catan to Become AR Game With Tech From Pokemon GO

Niantic may be involved with a project to turn the hit boardgame Catan into a Pokemon Go-style AR game.

As originally reported by TechCrunch, the makers of the Settlers of Catan boardgame announced last month that it was working on a “massively multiplayer location-based game” called Catan: World Explorers.

Catan Studios launched a website for Catan: World Explorers and internet sleuths uncovered multiple hidden references to Niantic in the website’s code. When IGN reached out to Niantic, the studio confirmed it was involved with the project in some capacity.

Stargirl Episodes to Air on The CW After DC Universe Debuts

Announced in July 2018 for DC Universe, Stargirl follows Courtney Whitmore, a high school sophomore, and her group of friends as they try to stop villains of the past. Originally planned to be a DC Universe exclusive – Stargirl episodes will air on the CW one day after they debut on DC Universe.

The 13-episode scripted series will be produced by Geoff Johns, Stargirl creator and series showrunner. Johns recently stepped down as DC Entertainment President and CCO, thus has extensive experience in the DC's universe of characters, playing a vital role in the CW adaptations of heroes like the Flash, Arrow, and Batwoman.

Final Fantasy 14 Director Wants to Release the Game on PlayStation 5

Final Fantasy 14 may be coming to PlayStation 5. During a fan event in the UK, Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida referred to a PlayStation 5 version of Square Enix’s hit MMORPG, but the company is being a bit more coy about it than the game’s director.

According to people present at the UK event, Yoshida reportedly said that the developers “are hard at work on FFXIV on PS5.” However, when IGN reached out to Square Enix, the company said that this was not a confirmation.

“While not a confirmation, Yoshida-san expressed a hope that Final Fantasy XIV Online may one day appear on the next generation of Sony console.”

Half-Life: Alyx Is ‘About the Same Length as Half-Life 2′

Valve has officially revealed Half-Life: Alyx, a full-length VR entry into the Half-Life series. IGN was able to ask a few questions about Valve’s new VR project for the official reveal and learned several new details, including Half-Life: Alyx’s length, and how the project began.

IGN spoke with Half-Life: Alyx programmer Robin Walker before the reveal of Valve’s new Half-Life project, which is slated to release on all PC-based VR headsets in March 2020. Valve has been heavily invested in VR technology for years, and Valve is confident enough in the tech to create a full-length Half-Life game for the platform.

Half-Life: Alyx Will Support Mods

Valve has officially revealed Half-Life: Alyx, a full-length Half-Life game that's played completely in VR. The title is set to be released for all PC-based VR headsets in March 2020. You can watch the new trailer above.

Half-Life: Alyx is Valve’s first Half-Life game since 2007’s Half-Life 2: Episode 2. The game takes place between the events of the first and second Half-Life games, the new VR title stars the eponymous Alyx Vance and her father Eli as they work to organize a resistance against The Combine.

Players will take control of Alyx just as it was revealed in a report following the leak for Half-Life: Alyx earlier this week. Like previous games in the series, Half-Life: Alyx's core gameplay will feature a combination of world exploration, puzzles, and combat.
