Stumptown: Cobie Smulders’ Private Eye Has the Superpower of Screwing Up
All September long, IGN is highlighting the best TV coming your way in the 2019-2020 season. Today we're introducing ourselves to the cool, cunning Dex Parios, Private Eye. Played by How I Met Your Mother and the MCU's Cobie Smulders, Dex tracks down crooks and busts open cases on ABC's Stumptown, which premieres Wednesday, September 25. Based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Greg Rucka and Matthew Southworth, Stumptown follows Dex, an ex-solider, as she tries to get out in front of a gambling debt by agreeing to take on tricky P.I. jobs with no formal training. I spoke to Stumptown creator Jason Richman about why Smulders was perfect for the role of Dex and what type of changes he had to make to the source material. Plus, we've got an exclusive first look at the opening scene of the show translated into comic book form, plus a video of the scene itself for comparison.

Mario Kart Tour’s Paid Subscription Costs More Than Switch Online
Mario Kart Tour - Nintendo's newest free-to-start mobile game - has begun rolling out on both iOS and Android. With that roll out, one of its approaches to paid content has also become clear - the Gold Pass is a subscription service that costs $4.99 / £4.99 a month (Australian pricing not available at time of writing).
That subscription nets you a series of higher-level rewards (including racers, karts and rubies, an in-game currency) for racing in the game's tours, access to the game's 200cc mode, and the ability to earn badges for playing certain challenges. A two-week free trial is available, after which the paid service will automatically kick in.
That subscription sits alongside the gacha-style microtransactions familiar from other Nintendo mobile games - you can buy rubies to fire a warp pipe that offers randomised rewards.

Michael Rosenbaum Won’t Appear in the Crisis on Infinite Earths Crossover
Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor on Smallville and voiced the The Flash in the fan-favorite Justice League animated series, has been one of the most requested additions to Arrowverse's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover airing this December. But judging by a recent tweet, don't expect Rosenbaum to be part of the epic crossover, no matter how much fans want it.
On Twitter, Rosenbaum wrote that while he was he was visiting his grandfather in a nursing home, Warner Bros. called his agents and made him an offer that he could refuse.

Is Joker a “Dangerous” Movie? Phoenix & Director Respond to Critics
UPDATE: Warner Bros. issued a statement Tuesday responding to the ongoing debate surrounding the potential "danger" of its Joker movie, most recently highlighted in a letter sent to the studio by the families of the victims of the 2012 mass shooting at a screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado who are concerned that the film could incite similar violence. In the statement - which you can read in its entirety below - Warners acknowledges that art is designed to "provoke difficult conversations around complex issues," but insists that Joker is not intended to glorify the character. IGN spoke to actor Joaquin Phoenix and director Todd Phillips last week, who defended their film in response to the controversy.
