Tom Holland Breaks His Silence on Spider-Man Split
The shocking news that Disney and Sony reportedly failed to reach a new deal to share the Spider-Man movie rights cast a shadow over this weekend’s D23 Expo where Disney is making numerous announcements for its upcoming movies and shows. Tom Holland himself took the D23 stage to promote his upcoming Pixar movie Onward and received a deafening response from the crowd as they gave him cheers of support.
“It’s been a crazy week but I want you to know that I’m grateful from the bottom of my heart and I love you 3000,” Holland said at the close of the presentation.

He's a high school band teacher with a passion for being a jazz musician in his own right. But just as he's about to achieve his dreams, he dies, and his soul ends up at the seminar.
Disney’s Cruella: Emma Stone is 1970’s London Punk Rock
Disney released a first look at Emma Stone as Cruella de Vil in the upcoming Cruella movie at D23 Expo on Saturday.
Stone popped up on set during the Disney panel, saying, "Since you’re such huge Disney fans, we wanted to let you know a bit about the story. 1970s set in London, it’s punk rock…" she trailed off as she got distracted by a Dalmatian in her eye line. She then seemingly joked that she, "can't work under these conditions," and was going back to her trailer.
The photo shows off a much more rough, yet fashionable Cruella holding back three Dalmatians on leashes, while staring down at the camera. Her two thug-like pals, Horace and Jasper, can be seen on either side of her, in what looks to be outside of a rundown building.

Director JJ Abrams and Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy debuted a new poster for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker during D23 Expo on Saturday.
The poster shows Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) facing off on top of what looks to be a broken part of a ship, with the shadowy face and of the Emperor looming in the background, with his eyes peering ahead. Check it out below:
Kit Harington Cast in Marvel’s Eternals
Kit Harington has joined the MCU in Marvel's Eternals as a character named Dane Whitman.
Announced at D23 Expo, Kit Harington, following reports of his possible MCU arrival just ahead of D23, will play Whitman, a non-Eternal character in the film and yet one who may have some comics heritage. Dane Whitman is also the name of a character known as the Black Knight. He was in fact the third character to bear the moniker. He was featured in a Black Knight solo series following Marvel's All-New, All-Different Marvel initiative. Marvel did not confirm his character will in fact become Black Knight during the film, instead only introducing him by his pedestrian name.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Footage Reveals Dark Side Rey
Disney unveiled a sizzle reel of footage from the franchise finale Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker at D23 Expo today, which ended with a shot of Rey apparently having turned to the Dark Side.
The very final shot depicted Rey in a Palpatine-style dark cloak, looking fierce and holding a red lightsaber -- which then shot out a dual Darth Maul-style blade!
Here's a quick rundown of what else the footage showed:
Black Panther 2 Release Date Announced
At the D23 Expo in Anaheim, Marvel announced that Black Panther 2 will open in theaters on May 6, 2022.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige was joined on stage by Black Panther director Ryan Coogler, who made the announcement. According to Feige, "Ryan’s hard at work on another black panther film, he has delivered us a treatment that I happen to have right here." Feige jokingly asked Coogler if they should reveal the name of the film, but decided that it's too early for that.
"We're really hard at work on it, trying to give you guys something special. We're definitely taking our time with this... We really really want it to be right," Coogler said before walking off the stage.
The Walt Disney Studios showcase at the D23 Expo also revealed new Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker footage, and an announcement that Game of Thrones alum Kit Harington has been cast in Marvel's Eternals.
Star Wars: Keri Russell Reveals New Details About Her Mysterious Character
Keri Russell took the D23 Expo stage with director JJ Abrams to share a few details on her new character Zori Bliss in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
“She’s very cool and a little bit shady,” Russell revealed. “She’s kind of a criminal and sort of this old friend of Poe’s.”
We got a glimpse of Russell's character in a photo spread that appeared in Vanity Fair where she was sporting a purple costume, long fin helmet, and a pair of blasters. Poe doesn't seem the type to get involved with shady people given his penchant for doing the right thing, but perhaps this figure from his past will show us a new side to Oscar Isaac's pilot character.

Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker Director on Leia’s Role in the Film
While speaking at the D23 Expo theatrical panel, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams discussed the late Carrie Fisher's role in the upcoming film, calling her "the heart of this story."
Speaking on stage at D23, Abrams, discussed how Fisher in part played a role in his decision to come back to direct the film after having helmed Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
"The character of Leia is really the heart of this story, we couldn’t possibly tell the end of these nine films without Leia," he said.
"The crazy part is, I was not supposed to be directing this film, and we lost Carrie, heartbreakingly, and so we started figuring out the story, and I remembered this thing I read, and people have asked me for years like, 'What is Carrie like?' She was almost supernaturally witty in a way, and I went back and looked in her last book and she had written in special thanks, and special thanks to J.J. Abrams for putting up with me twice - but I’d only worked with her once, and I wasn’t supposed to direct it. So it was a classic Carrie thing to write something like that.
