Marvel, Mattel Reveal Mystique, Storm, and Dark Phoenix Barbie Dolls
In honor of the 80th anniversary of Marvel Comics, Mattel has revealed three new Barbie dolls based on the legendary X-Men characters Storm, Mystique, and Dark Phoenix.
Fans will be able to pre-order these new Barbie dolls at GameStop beginning on July 18, 2019, and they will all retail for $54.99 USD. They will then be made available on store shelves in October.
You can see all of the new dolls in the slideshow below, along with official descriptions for each X-Men.
Dark Phoenix, the latest X-Men film that was released last month, starred these three who are now getting the Barbie treatment.
In our review of Dark Phoenix, we said that it "is ultimately yet another fumbled take on the classic saga from the Marvel Comics, albeit one without the side plots of The Last Stand."
Marvel Writer Says It’s a Mistake for the Comics to Imitate the Movies
Jonathan Hickman, the Marvel comics writer responsible for breathing new life into the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, and 2015's Secret Wars event series, has discussed how he believes it's a mistake for comics to imitate the movies.
Hickman's 2013 Infinity miniseries introduced The Black Order, who eventually became the Children of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. This led EW to ask if, due to the Disney-Fox deal inevitably bringing X-Men to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Hickman might "have as much of an impact on those as he's had on recent Avengers movies."
These Game of Thrones Actors Had to Self-Submit for Their Emmy Nominations
Three Game of Thrones actors nominated for the Emmys yesterday weren’t part of HBO’s official awards campaign. Instead, Alfie Allen, Gwendoline Christie, and Carice van Houten all submitted themselves for Emmy nominations, and got them.
On Tuesday morning, Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy), Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), and Carice van Houten (Melisandre) were nominated for Outsanding Supporting Actor, Outstanding Supporting Actress, and Outstanding Guest Actress, respectively, in the drama category.
Normally a network, in this case HBO, has an awards team that submits its actors and shows to the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for nomination. However, HBO confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Allen, Christie, and van Houten were not a part of HBO’s nominations package. Instead, the three actors submitted themselves to the Academy through their reps, and paid the $225 entry fee themselves.
Game of Thrones Showrunners Cancel Comic-Con Appearance
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the showrunners behind Game of Thrones, are not attending Comic Con 2019 after all.

Benioff and Weiss are no longer listed as attending, along with director Miguel Sapochnik, actor Iain Glen, who played Jorah Mormont, and actress Nathalie Emmanuel, who played Missandei.
Those that are still coming include Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Jacob Anderson (Grey Worm), John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth), Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark), and Conleth Hill (Varys).
Check Out Nintendo Switch’s Pretty New Joy-Con Colors
it's been a busy month for the Nintendo Switch. Not only did Nintendo reveal an updated Switch with better batteries, the company also revealed two new Switch Joy-Con colors to go with the longer-lasting console.
The two new Joy-Con sets coming to the Nintendo Switch later this year are: the Neon Purple and Orange Joy-Cons, and Blue and Neon Yellow Joy-Cons. Both colorways will be released on October 4 and are both priced at $79.99.
These two colored Joy-Cons are the latest in a growing library of Joy-Con colors. Nintendo occasionally releases Joy-Con colors with a theme, such as the Neon Pink and Green Joy-Cons for Splatoon 2, and bright Red Joy-Cons for Super Mario Odyssey. Other times, Nintendo just releases fun, new colors so players can further customize their Nintendo Switch consoles.
