Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Release Date Announced
Monster Hunter World’s Iceborne expansion finally has a release date on consoles, set to come out on PS4 and Xbox One on September 9. The Monster Hunter Twitter account also said that a PC release would follow "this Winter," which we assume is the northern hemisphere's Winter, though it's unclear if "this Winter" implies the very end of 2019 or early 2020.
First gameplay from Iceborne was also shown during Sony's State of Play showcase today, including looks at new and returning monsters, as well as new snow mechanics and a Palico ability. You can watch that gameplay here:
Every Announcement From Today’s State of Play
Sony PlayStation's second State of Play video showcase highlighted a number of new titles, and showcased the re-reveal of a long-awaited remake and much more.
Let's dive into everything covered during the May 9 State of Play.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Is Back
After a multi-year absence, Square Enix and PlayStation have re-revealed the long-anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake. It's been a long time since we saw the remake, and particularly since development moved internally to Square Enix.
And while the teaser proved to be brief, Square Enix promises more to come about the remake in June, which would line up nicely with the company's plans for an E3 showcase this year.
Insane Cameos During Last Night’s What We Do in the Shadows Episode
Spoiler warning: Spoilers for last night’s episode of What We Do in the Shadows ahead.
Last night’s episode of What We Do in the Shadows featured an all-star selection of cameos from actors who have famously played vampires in the past.
Discussed in an interview with EW, executive producers Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement, and Paul Simms revealed how Tilda Swinton, Paul Reubens, Evan Rachel Wood, Danny Trejo, Wesley Snipes, and Dave Bautista all managed to appear in the same episode.
Waititi, Clement and Jonny Brugh, who all played vampires in the What We Do in the Shadows film, made an appearance in an international vampire tribunal, and were accompanied by various actors who have famously played vampires in the past - though for legal reasons, they all went by their real names instead of their character’s names.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Re-Revealed
At PlayStation's State of Play today, we got a new look at Final Fantasy 7 Remake since development moved in-house.
The new trailer focused primarily on Aerith and Cloud, and we were given a glimpse of new character models, combat, and story beats (we see Aireth give Cloud a flower, as she did in the original). Check it out below.
The trailer finished with the promise that we would see more to come at E3 in June.
It's not entirely unsurprising. Final Fantasy 7 Remake director Tetsuya Nomura Nomura told IGN at E3 2018 Final Fantasy 7 Remake has moved past the conceptual stage and into full development, and that PR would start in earnest post the release of Kingdom Hearts 3.
GRRM on the Lessons Game of Thrones Took From Lord of the Rings
With Game of Thrones coming to a close and the chances to pick creator George R.R. Martin's brain becoming ever-slimmer, we went the world premiere of Tolkien and spoke to Martin on the red carpet about the lessons he took from the iconic Lord of the Rings author's most famous work for his own best-selling Game of Thrones series.
Comparisons between Martin and Tolkien have long been made, and with the massive success of HBO's Game of Thrones series the former's legacy as a fantasy maverick has been secured. On the red carpet for the biography of the classic author, Martin was quick to share how The Lord of the Rings influenced his work from the earliest days of writing his massively successful series.
MediEvil Release Date Announced
The MediEvil remake is officially coming to PlayStation 4 this fall.
Announced during today’s State of Play livestream, Sony revealed MediEvil will be released on October 25, 2019. It is coming exclusively to PS4 and is being developed by Other Ocean Interactive.
Today’s trailer began with a brief story introduction, telling the tale of how Sir Daniel Fortesque lost his life defending the Kingdom of Gallowmere from the evil sorcerer Zarok, who subsequently revived Daniel's corpse. The trailer features third-person running, jumping, sword swinging, arrow shooting and more, complete with skeletons riding dead horses, mobs of zombies, and undead monks.
MediEvil was announced for PS4 during PSX 2017, and we later learned it is a remake rather than a remaster.

Netflix Partners With Dark Horse Entertainment for Future Series
Following the success of The Umbrella Academy, Netflix and Dark Horse Entertainment have announced that they will continue to work together for both TV and film projects.
Under this new deal, Netflix will have a first look at Dark Horse's IP for both film and TV and both parties have already started exploring what will be coming next.
In addition to The Umbrella Academy, Netflix and Dark Horse also collaborated on Jonas Åkerlund’s feature film Polar, which we said was "bolstered by
Mikkelsen's memorable performance, but can't overcome a lackluster supporting cast."
The Umbrella Academy, which was seen by over 45 million people, was recently renewed for a second season with the main cast set to return. The first season was influenced by the comic book series The Umbrella Academy: Apocalypse Suite and, in our review, we said "The Umbrella Academy blends self-aware humor with stylish storytelling to deconstruct an already overpopulated genre."
Opinion: Why Endgame’s Treatment of Hulk Is So Disappointing
Spoiler Alert! There are tons of spoilers for Avengers: Endgame, Infinity War and much of the MCU below. You've been warned!
With so many beloved characters crammed into Avengers: Endgame, even with a three-hour run time some were bound to get short shrift. It’s nevertheless shocking and disappointing that the Hulk, one of the most popular original Avengers and the second-longest tenured MCU hero, is almost completely absent from both Endgame and Infinity War.
Wait a second, you might say. Hulk is all over Endgame! The simple truth, however, is that the character featured in Endgame -- helpfully dubbed Professor Hulk by the internet in honor of a similarly merged version from the comics -- is not the Hulk at all.
