Monthly Archives: April 2019
Tolkien Star Was Nearly Cast in The Hobbit
The release of Avengers: Endgame, now just weeks away, kicks off 2019’s summer movie season. This year, we’re foregoing a traditional summer movie preview -- a single list-style film preview -- in favor of a month-long series of IGN First summer movie spotlights, featuring exclusive video debuts, image reveals, interviews and more.
IGN First is IGN's editorially-driven month-long spotlight of exclusives around upcoming film titles that both our audience -- and our staff! -- are excited about. We'll be rolling out exclusives on some of the most exciting new movies opening between the beginning of May until the end of August, so make sure to check back for even more exclusives throughout April.
For Honor Replaces Warriors With Rabbids for 24 Hours
Ubisoft has added gangs of armoured Rabbids to For Honor for a 24 hour limited-time event.
The hyper-active, buck-toothed creatures are pretty much Ubisoft’s mascot, and they will be acting as enemies and storming the gates in For Honor until 9pm PT / midnight ET / 5am UK / 2pm AEST. You’ve not got long to get involved, but anyone who does will get a melee pack reward.
While the event is clearly themed around April Fools, it is completely playable and not a joke in any form other than the fact that it’s absolutely bananas. There are plenty of fake April Fools jokes out there today, though, so keep your eyes peeled.

Valve Teases New Valve Index VR Headset for May
Valve has added a new VR headset to the Steam store. Called the Valve Index, the store page shows no more than an image of the headset and the words “Upgrade your experience. May 2019”.
Such words suggest we’ll learn more next month, but there is a certain amount that can be gleaned from the image itself. Notable is the slider on the left-hand side, which appears to be an Interpupillary Distance slider. This physically adjusts the distance between the lenses in order to account for the distance between a users eyes. The inclusion of one is important, as the upcoming Oculus Rift S features fixed lenses with software-based adjustment, despite the original Rift headset having adjustable ones.

Avengers: Endgame: Marvel Toys May Reveal Thanos’ New Weapon
Potential spoilers for Avengers: Endgame.
Marvel has given us our first look at new statues and action figures of characters in Avengers: Endgame, and the Thanos statue may have revealed a new weapon for the Mad Titan that may be used in the upcoming film.
Marvel and Diamond Select Toys have partnered to bring this Marvel Movie Milestone "Avengers: Endgame" Thanos Resin Statue to life. It sits at 16-inches tall, will cost roughly $500, and only 1,000 are being made.
The statue features Thanos ready for battle in his armor, with an in-tact Infinity Gauntlet and something new - a dual-bladed weapon that very much fits with Thanos' philosophy that everything must be perfectly balanced.

Games for Your Inner Historian
I love history. I have historical books, movies and texts on every shelf at home and a big fat history degree on my wall that’s mostly useful for… well, articles like this.
Being a history nerd also means that when a game takes inspiration from a particular historical epoch, it makes me all the more interested. I know that history isn’t for everyone, and not every game needs a solid historical basis, but I’ve always seen games as a way to explore thoughts and ideas in a way that no other medium can - and not everyone wants to sit through a three-hour lecture on the Russian revolution.
So let’s take a look at a handful of games and game series that have built an incredible experience on top of a solid historical underpinning. To be clear, these aren’t experiences that will give you a totally realistic depiction of a time period, but they do give you some of the flavour of the age; whether that’s culture, politics, warfare or any number of other elements. And yes, because I can’t resist I’ll also point you in the direction of further information to complement - or build upon - what you might get out of each game.
