Luke’s Lightsaber ‘Lives’ in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

During Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019, Daisy Ridley revealed that Luke’s lightsaber “lives” in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and director J.J. Abrams alludes to some new force powers Rey might use in the movie.

Moderator Stephen Colbert asks Ridley, “Rey has crazy-strong force powers now, but her lightsaber’s in pieces. Is she rebuilding that lightsaber, or are we in a start-from-scratch situation here?"

Ridley responds, “My answer is not the end of the story... but the lightsaber that Rey inherited from Luke lives.” This could suggest she either rebuilds the broken saber, or as many fans have theorized, retrofits it to her own staff.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Director Built the Story Around Leia

General Leia Organa and the woman who portrayed her, Carrie Fisher, will have a key part to play in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Director J.J. Abrams explained at Star Wars Celebration Chicago how they made Leia's role in the movie's story work following Fisher's passing in 2016.

Though Fisher passed away prior to Episode 9 beginning filming, Abrams knew he needed to keep Leia in the final Skywalker movie's story. "What are you going to do?" he said on stage at the Episode 9 Star Wars Celebration panel. "You don't recast that part, and you don't have her suddenly disappear."

The Rise of Skywalker Doesn’t Pick Up Immediately After The Last Jedi

During Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams revealed that the final installment in the Skywalker Saga doesn’t pick up immediately after The Last Jedi.

"The movie doesn’t pick up immediately after the last film - some time has gone by,” said Abrams. "This is an adventure that the group goes on together. One of the great things about the movie is the dynamic between the characters. They are just the most wonderful together. That’s the thing I’m most excited for you all to see."

Abrams also showed off an image of the core cast outside of the Millennium Falcon that supposedly takes place very early in the movie. The image showcases Rey, Finn, Poe, BB-8, Chewbacca and C-3PO in a forested area. Upon first look, R2D2 appears to be missing.

Ubisoft CEO Remembers Vivendi’s Attempted Takeover as a ‘Fight’

A little more than a year ago, Vivendi finally lost to Ubisoft in a lengthy, messy legal battle for control of Ubisoft. Vivendi ended up selling its remaining stock in Ubisoft, effectively severing its relationship with the company. Ubisoft co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot isn’t being coy when he calls the whole ordeal a “fight.”

is not easy to do in huge companies,” Guillemot said on this month’s episode of IGN Unfiltered. “So when you're attacked with a company that has a different philosophy, you know it can affect what you've been creating from scratch. So you fight with a lot of energy to make sure it can't be destroyed.”
