Opinion: Now Is the Time to Subscribe to DC Universe
When it was first announced last year, the DC Universe app seemed like a dream come true for superhero fanatics. A dedicated streaming service with the best of DC's movies and TV projects, brand new DC shows and a robust comic book library? What's not to love?
In execution, though, DC Universe hasn't quite lived up to that hype. The selection of classic material is a bit thin, and the slow roll-out of new series like Titans and Doom Patrol makes binge-watching a difficult proposition.
The good news is that DC Universe has finally progressed to the point where the service justifies the price of a monthly subscription. Here's a look at how the service has improved over the last few months and why these exclusive shows are leading the charge.
Rotten Tomatoes Bans Pre-Release User Input
Rotten Tomatoes has decided to remove the option for fans to comment and "rate" films via the site's "Want to See" feature before their release in an effort to stop users trashing films they haven't seen yet.
The change is part of a site overhaul that's intended to "more accurately and authentically represent the voice of fans, while protecting
data and public forums from bad actors," explained a recent blog update. The update reads: "As of February 25, we will no longer show the 'Want to See' percentage score for a movie during its pre-release period. Why you might ask? We’ve found that the 'Want to See' percentage score is often times confused with the 'Audience Score' percentage number."
Escape Room 2 in the Works for 2020 Release
Escape Room is getting a sequel for release on April 17, 2020.
Deadline reports that Adam Robitel is returning to direct. He'll be joined by the original film's writer, Bragi F. Schut, and producer, Neal H. Moritz.
Escape Room released back in January and more than made back its $10 million budget, raking in $119 million at the worldwide box office.
Although it was filled with tropes, we gave the PG-13 thriller a 6.5/10 in our IGN review, calling it "A fun throwback to thrillers from the '00s."

Marvel Is Cooking Up Something Huge for Venom and Carnage
Marvel Comics has spent the past year dropping major bombshells for Venom and Carnage, and their newest Free Comic Book Day special teases even bigger things to come.
As part of their solicitation for this year's FCBD: Amazing Spider-Man special, Marvel teases, "Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman join forces again for a story that's been brewing since classic Spidey tales like AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #252, SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN #90, and MARVEL TEAM-UP #141. Prepare for absolute terror as this Venom story by Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman sets the stage for what will become one of the most fearsome events in the Marvel Universe…"
Obviously, that doesn't reveal much about the actual plot of these two stories. However, Stegman's cover gives us some idea of what's coming, showcasing Carnage looming and preparing to consume the world.

Devotion Was Removed From Steam for a ‘QA Check’
Red Candle Games has put an end to any speculation that its Taiwanese horror game, Devotion was banned from Steam following a backlash from Chinese gamers - but it was temporarily removed because of that backlash.
The Taiwanese horror game caused controversy earlier this week when players reported spotting a reference to a Winnie-the-Pooh meme mocking Chinese President Xi Jinping. It subsequently disappeared from Steam, leading some believe it had been banned from the platform.
However, in a Facebook statement, the developer explained that it removed its title to "have another complete QA check," and ensure that "no other unintended materials" were left in the game. It also cites "technical issues" that caused "unexpected crashes," as another reason for the removal.
