Axiom Verge Crashes on Epic Store Thanks to Missing ‘Steam’ File

The Epic Games Store is giving away a new free game every two weeks just for logging in, the most recent of which is 2015’s metroidvania hit Axiom Verge, but things didn’t go quite according to plan with this one. As reported by PC Gamer, players encountered a consistent crash upon entering a specific area, and it turns that’s because it was missing a file called ‘Steam.xnb’.

The issue has already been fixed, but developer Tom Happ explained on Twitter that it stemmed from how he moved Axiom Verge over from Steam to the Epic Games Store. Happ automatically excluded any game files with the word “Steam” in it to cut down on unnecessary files associated with Valve’s platform, but that inadvertently removed an unrelated sound effect of a burst of steam – like the sound of boiled water, not the store.

Nintendo Has Unannounced Games It Plans to Release This Year

In a recently released Q & A summary, Nintendo revealed it has unannounced games that it plans to release within 2019.

In Nintendo’s Q & A summary for its fiscal year ending March 2019, Nintendo Entertainment Planning and Development general manager Shinya Takahashi responded to a question about Nintendo’s process for software development, saying “I have heard some people say we have a tendency towards slow development, but that’s certainly not true in every case. We have titles currently in development that we haven’t announced yet, some of which we’re preparing to release this year, and I don’t anticipate the kind of delays they would be concerned about."

Anthem: 6 Changes We Want to See

The Anthem Demo appears to do a lot of things right. The flying is smooth, the abilities feel devastating and powerful, and the overall gameplay oozes style.

But there are also a few changes we’d love to see in the final game. Let’s dive in.

Faster Movement Speed in The Forge

All too often, games can have a “hub” area where you can accept quests, sell items, fix up your characters, base build, etc. These areas are great, but some of them forcefully slow your character down for, well... who knows why. (Looking at you Red Dead 2). In a game like Anthem – a game that’s wildly about mobility and traversal – it’s odd to not give us the ability to sprint in Fort Tarsis, seemingly for the purpose of sightseeing. Also, why do we start each session in a weird basement while our character looks at their hand? It’d be more effective to start us out near Javelins every time we log in.

Umbrella Academy Explained: What Is the New Netflix Superhero Series?

There's certainly no shortage of new TV shows based on comic books in 2019. But there's one series that seems to be on everyone's radar this year - Umbrella Academy. Based on the comic books from Gerard Way and artist Gabriel Bá, this new Netflix series puts a darker, quirkier spin on the X-Men formula.

If you're not sure why everyone is looking forward to the show's debut, it's time to brush up on all things Umbrella Academy. Here's everything you need to know about the premise, characters, and setting of this oddball superhero saga.

Umbrella Academy Explained: The Basics

The Umbrella Academy begins when 43 superhuman infants are suddenly born to mothers who had shown no signs of pregnancy beforehand. A wealthy inventor and philanthropist named Sir Reginald Hargreeves adopts seven of these children and raises them to be superheroes at the titular Umbrella Academy. Unfortunately, with Hargreeves being a ruthless taskmaster who cares only about results, these seven children grow up to be dysfunctional, psychologically damaged heroes.

Opinion: I Miss When Battle Royales Were Boring

Battle royale as a genre continues to grow wildly out of control, and as it does new trends are starting to emerge within it. Compared to earlier BRs, the latest games are much faster-paced, usually with smaller maps that facilitate more action. And while that’s surely a positive for a lot of players, I can’t help but miss the boring stuff.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and BRs as a whole are rooted fundamentally in military sims like Arma. At the start, that meant big maps, realism-based healing and looting mechanics, and a helluva lot of walking as the norm. But games like Call of Duty: Blackout and Apex Legends have shoved the status quo further away from the sim side of things and closer to the feeling of a traditional multiplayer FPS – even PUBG is introducing smaller maps like Sanhok with similarly action-packed goals.
