PSA: This Is the Last Week to Unlock Smash Bros. Ultimate’s Piranha Plant for Free

It’s the last week to unlock Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s free DLC character, Piranha Plant, and here’s what you need to know to ensure you’ll get the potted fighter.

To obtain the fighter for free, simply purchase the game physically or digitally before January 31, 2019. If you bought a physical copy of the game, you’ll have to redeem its My Nintendo points by pressing the + button on the game’s icon on Switch’s menu screen, scroll down to "My Nintendo Rewards Program" and choose "Earn Points.” This will send an e-mail to the address your account is attached to. If you bought digitally, this will happen automatically.

If you’ve already done this, there should be a code to redeem Piranha Plant in your inbox, but if you haven’t, do so within the next three days to ensure you will - and be careful not to toss the message into the trash. If it doesn’t arrive right away, don’t worry: The code itself will be valid through June 2019. Redeem the code through the Nintendo eShop, but know that the character isn’t set to arrive until February 2019.
