Total War: Three Kingdoms Is a Riveting Ancient-Chinese Drama

Liu Bei, the hero of the loosely historical epic novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, is both a very obvious and very odd protagonist for a Total War game. On one hand, he’s generally portrayed as the hero. The righteous, noble scion of the rightful dynasty looking to hold together the collapsing Han Empire. On the other hand, his journey through the first part of the story is utterly different from how most Total War games progress, entering and leaving the service of other warlords, gaining and losing his base of power, and eventually ending up hundreds of miles away from his starting position in Northeastern China. As it turns out, the Three Kingdoms campaign has a plan for telling the tale of this unorthodox rise to power.

Haunting Of Hill House Gets A Lot Right, According To Ghost Hunters

Spoilers for The Haunting of Hill House follow.

The house is a textbook definition of a haunted mansion. Drafty with long, dark hallways, dank basements, a dumb waiter, a sealed-off room, and ancient furniture, the structure appears -- as Shirley Jackson described it in her 1959 novel The Haunting of Hill House -- as “a house arrogant and hating, never off guard.” Slightly off-center, with right angles that are a “fraction of a degree off in one direction or another,” Hill House could be described as the embodiment of evil.

Meanwhile, the young Crain family, the Hill House occupants from last year’s hit Netflix adaptation, are at the mercy of horrifying phenomena that haunts them, both during their time in the building, and for years after as ghosts seek to lure them back.

Meet Arrow’s New Suicide Squad

The Suicide Squad may be defunct in the Arrowverse thanks to the team's success in movie form, but a lethal gang of expendable criminals by any other name would be as deadly, so it was only a matter of time before ARGUS revamped the covert task force under a fancy new title.

In Season 7, episode 11, "Past Sins," we'll get to meet the latest iteration of the squad, the Ghost Initiative, featuring new recruits Ricardo Diaz (Kirk Acevedo); China White (Kelly Hu); Slade Wilson's son, Kane Wolfman (Liam Hall); and Carrie Cutter, aka Cupid (Amy Gumenick). Needless to say, these villains aren't any more enthusiastic about having bombs implanted in their heads than Deadshot, Bronze Tiger, and Shrapnel, and they definitely aren't thrilled to have Diggle and Lyla calling the shots.

What Are Black Panther’s Oscar Chances Like After Its SAG Awards Win?

The Screen Actors Guild Awards were distributed Sunday, and, only somewhat surprisingly, Black Panther won the top award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. The film's star, Chadwick Boseman, referenced a Nina Simone song in his acceptance speech, “Young, Gifted, and Black.” This is more than just good news for fans of the film. It also bolsters Black Panther's odds for a potential Oscar win for Best Picture. Before, the idea of a superhero flick actually winning Best Picture was a pipe dream or a pleasant distraction. After the SAG Award win, it's looking like – dare we dream?? – a real possibility.

Here’s How to See Alita: Battle Angel Early and for Free

Twentieth Century Fox is offering fans free screenings of Alita: Battle Angel two weeks before its theatrical release on February 14, 2019.

On January 31 at 7pm, these screenings of Alita will take place in "Dolby Cinema in 3D at AMC, IMAX 3D and other select 3D premium large format theaters."

In addition, fans who participate in these early showings will be treated to a making of the film special and a conversation with the filmmakers and cast, including director Robert Rodriguez, executive producers James Cameron and Jon Landau, and cast members Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, and Keean Johnson.

“People may have heard of Alita, but don’t know who she is," Cameron said. "Why is she called the Battle Angel? What is her world like? Well, I think you’ve simply got to see it to believe it. And the best way to see it is in a cinema, and in gorgeous 3D, the way Robert Rodriguez shot it. So we’ve decided to do some special free screenings, for fans around the country, to introduce our Alita to the world. When you see how big a heart she has, and what she stands for, and how she kicks major butt —  you’re going to fall in love with her, the way I did.”
