Gotham’s Cameron Monaghan Thinks Joaquin Phoenix Will Be a ‘Very Different’ Joker

Whether we're talking about a proto-Joker, or pre-Joker, it's a dangerous time to be in Gotham City, with double the Clown Princes of Crime, and no Caped Crusader.

Filming in New York City, the Fox series Gotham features Cameron Monaghan as Jerome and Jeremiah Valeska, predecessors to the iconic Batman villain. Meanwhile, across the way in New Jersey, Joaquin Phoenix is shooting the Todd Phillips-directed Joker origin movie.

Though there are at least two other projects involving The Joker rumored to be in the works at Warner Bros., Gotham and Phoenix's Joker are ostensibly Batman-free prequels.

So what does Monaghan, Gotham’s so-called proto-Joker since 2015, think of the pre-Joker on the other side of the Hudson?

The newest Star Wars animated series, Resistance, features several familiar faces from the new movies (including Poe Dameron, Captain Phasma and Ello Asty), but the most recent episode just name-dropped an even bigger character. Kylo Ren was alluded to for the first time in "The Children From Tehar." Not only does this episode shed a bit more light on Kylo's backstory and his role in the First Order hierarchy, it also hints at what role he could have as a recurring antagonist in the future.

Read on for a quick breakdown of the Kylo Ren-related developments in this episode and what to expect from this villain down the road.

The Massacre on Tehar

Currently, the series is dealing with an ongoing conflict involving heroes Kaz and Neeku trying to track down two children who have had a bounty placed on their heads. As it turns out, the First Order placed that bounty. These children are the sole survivors of a massacre on Tehar, one perpetrated by none other than Kylo Ren. Nintendo Pledges to Remove Controversial Native American Reference in Smash Bros. Ultimate

Nintendo plans to remove a controversial Native American reference from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Mr. Game & Watch character.

Smash Bros. Ultimate's Mr. Game & Watch character appeared with a feather on his head and torch in his hand during Nintendo's recent Japanese Super Smash Bros. Ultimate live stream. It's a callback to the 1982 game Fire Attack, in which players controlled a cowboy who had to defend a wooden fort from Native Americans attempting to set it on fire.

"Nintendo has been planning to distribute an update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate that removes the feather from the silhouette of Mr. Game & Watch," a Nintendo spokesperson told Eurogamer. "The original game on which this depiction of the character is based was released more than three decades ago and does not represent our company values today.
