Gotham Reveals First Look at Bane in Final Season
The first photo of Shane West as Bane in the fifth and final season of Gotham has been revealed.
The photo was posted on Twitter by Tze Chun, a writer and producer on Gotham. It shows West as Bane with a breathing apparatus that connects to his chest along with some bulky shoulder pads and bracers. He also appears to be fittingly angry with notably discolored rings beneath his eyes, suggesting this could be one of the many side effects of the infamous Venom drug that Bane is known for using.

Breaking Down Halloween’s Record-Breaking Box Office Debut
Universal’s highly-touted Halloween weekend, as expected, ran roughshod over its box office competition this weekend, earning an impressive $77.5 million in its debut. It had been projected to open in the $50 million to $60 million range ahead of its debut, but it ended up making history in more ways than one, while continuing to prove that audiences will in fact show up in droves to R-rated movies again. One of the most impressive stats, though, proves that it’s not just young men that can drive moviegoers to theaters to see a slasher flick like Halloween.
Halloween’s opening weekend was the biggest debut ever, for any movie in any genre, to feature a female lead character over 55 years of age. Jamie Lee Curtis, 59, returns as Laurie Strode in director David Gordon Green’s film, the first time she’s reprised her iconic role since the 2002 bomb Halloween: Resurrection, which was so unsuccessful it lead the franchise to go dormant for five years before director Rob Zombie was brought aboard to reboot it, with Scout Taylor-Compton starring as Laurie Strode in 2007’s Halloween ($58.3 million domestic total) and 2009’s Halloween II ($33.4 million domestic total).

The True Meaning Behind Han Solo’s Carbonite
Han Solo’s immersion into the carbon freeze chamber in The Empire Strikes Back is a classic moment from the original Star Wars trilogy, a beloved and moving scene that retains its impact almost 40 years after it first played in theaters. But it’s also symbolic, and takes on many classic archetypal patterns. In a matter of minutes, this scene provides implicit insight into the Corellian smuggler turned hero of the Rebellion. Solo in carbonite suggests many things about his internal struggle and, while it certainly appears tragic, there is also hope for rebirth and renewal.
Water is often associated with a number of key storytelling ideas that reflect a great deal about where a character is in his or her journey. It can be a mirror that provides insight into the character’s emotional state. As water flows, so to do the character’s range of emotions; the more calm the water, the more relaxed the character feels. Conversely, rough waters indicate turmoil and angst. However, when the water freezes, the symbolism turns dire. The carbon freeze chamber emphasizes this with dramatic precision.
