Game of Thrones Wins Best Drama Series at 2018 Emmy Awards
Game of Thrones has won the award for Outstanding Drama Series at the 2018 Emmy Awards.
Accepting the award were showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, producer Bernie Caulfield, author George R.R. Martin as well as an array of the show's cast, including Peter Dinklage, Gwendoline Christie, Emilia Clarke, Kit Harington, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Isaac Hempstead-Wright and more.
"Writing for these actors behind me has been the greatest honor ... We didn’t invent these characters, the show could not be without the mad genius of George, thank you for trusting us with your characters," said Benioff during his acceptance speech.
"A show is only as good as the people who make it, and we’re blessed and lucky to have the greatest cast, the greatest crew, the greatest producers," continued Weiss. "It is an honor to work with them from Spain to Iceland all the way to our home base of Belfast, Northern Ireland."
The Emmys Got Rick and Morty to Present an Award

The 2018 Emmy Awards jumped on the Rick and Morty bandwagon by having the animated characters, both voiced by Justin Roiland, present the award for Outstanding Reality Competition Programming.

Treyarch Announces Changes to Blackout after Beta
Treyarch announced on Monday evening changes they will be making for the full launch of their battle royale mode, Blackout in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on Oct. 12.
The changes come from player feedback after the beta was extended earlier Monday with Treyarch also lifting the cap to 100 players.
Treyarch said they wanted to look at the biggest feedback they received from the Black Ops 4 community from the beta and, "provide some deeper insights into what we’re doing to improve the game."
Some of the areas they will be tracking and updating include armor, audio adjustments, inventory and item management, and Xbox One performance.
Teddy Perkins Showed up to the Emmys and We’re Confused
At the 2018 Emmys, there was a surprise cameo in the form of one Teddy Perkins, from Season 2 of FX's Atlanta.
Darius (Lakeith Stanfield), meets the eccentric recluse while looking to purchase a classic piano. Perkins' strange appearance and mannerisms had many fans wondering who was underneath all of that makeup. Shortly after the episode aired, we learned that it was none other than series creator Donald Glover.
While we won't spoil all of the crazy scenarios that Darius and Teddy get into in that particular episode, it appears that the strange character made his way to TV's most prestigious night. Once again, social media is wondering who might be playing Teddy this time around. Is Donald reprising his role or is it someone new?
Thandie Newton Wins First Emmy for Westworld
Thandie Newton won her first Emmy Award for her scene-stealing role as Maeve Millay in Westworld at the 2018 Emmy Awards ceremony.
"I don’t even believe in God but I’m gonna thank her tonight," Newton said during her acceptance speech. "I’m so blessed... to work with the people I’ve gotten to work with: the cast and crew of Westworld, I love you all so much, Lisa Joy, Jonah Nolan, Home Box Office, J.J. Abrams, our guardian angel."
This is Westworld's first win of 2018; the show was nominated for 13 awards, including Best Drama. The HBO series scooped four Emmys at the 2017 ceremony in technical categories (Sound Mixing, Makeup, Hairstyling and Visual Effects), but this is the show's first win in a major category.
Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage Wins Emmy Award
Game of Thrones is kicking off the Emmys with a bang. The HBO fantasy series won the first award it was up for of the night: Best Supporting Actor, which went to Peter Dinklage.
Dinklage took to the stage to thank his showrunners, his wife, his on-screen brother and, of course, the man who started it all: George R.R. Martin.
"Thank you Dave
and Dan
for changing my life. l cannot walk down the street anymore. You are honestly the most talent amazing people I know besides my wife Erica, who I think I forgot to thank a couple years ago," said Dinklage in his acceptance speech. "Thanks to my brother from another mother Nikolaj
. I love you and I share this with you because you're an amazing handsome brother. And George R.R. Martin for creating this whole thing."
There Was a Proposal at the 2018 Emmys
The award for first (and best) Emmy Awards proposal goes to... Oscars director Glenn Weiss!
There were a couple moments during the 2018 Emmys' acceptance speeches where it felt like winners were close to proposing to their significant others as they expressed their thanks and adoration, but the man behind this year's Academy Awards went the whole nine yards.

Game of Thrones, Westworld and Every Other Winner from the 2018 Emmys
The 2018 Emmy Awards have concluded with Game of Thrones winning Best Drama Series, reclaiming its crown after a year of ineligibility, which allowed The Handmaid's Tale to usurp its top spot last year. There was no love for The Handmaid's Tale during the Primetime Emmys ceremony in 2018 (although it did scoop two awards at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony the week before, with Samira Wiley winning Outstanding Guest Actress and Wendy Hallam Martin scoring Single-Camera Picture Editing).
The Crown's Claire Foy won Best Actress in a Drama in her final year on the Netflix show, while The Americans' Matthew Rhys won Best Actor for the FX series' final season. On the comedy side, Amazon's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel swept its categories, winning Best Comedy and awarding star Rachel Brosnahan for Best Actress, Alex Borstein for Supporting Actress (in addition to her Creative Arts win for her voiceover work on Family Guy), and co-creator Amy Sherman-Palladino for Directing and Writing.
How the Japanese Games Industry Got Its Groove Back
It's a simple scene. Four handsome men in expensive-looking black outfits find that their even more expensive-looking car is in need of repair. They need to get out and push, and as they do so a cover of Stand by Me performed by Florence + the Machine plays in the background. It's a beautifully serene moment that captures the essence of Final Fantasy 15’s messaging perfectly. Here are four friends, out in the wider world for the first time, about to explore many new locations and test the very fabric of their friendship.
More to the point, this was a series trying to re-establish itself, and it kicked off its first current-generation mainline instalment with its characters trying to start a broken car. The metaphor is hardly subtle, but it is apt. This is poetic enough in and of itself, but the timing of the release has gone on to make it something more.
George R. R. Martin Says Game of Thrones Could’ve Lasted 13 Seasons
George R. R. Martin says his Game of Thrones novels could have provided enough material to keep the popular HBO series going for another five seasons.
In a red carpet interview at the Emmy Awards, Variety asked Martin why Game of Thrones is ending. "I don't know, ask David and Dan when they come through," Martin said, "we could have gone to 11, 12, 13 seasons. But I guess they wanted a life."
