Stranger Things Season 3 Will Draw Inspiration from This ’80s Comedy

After drawing inspiration from films like The Goonies, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, and Ghostbusters, Stranger Things' showrunners have turned their attention to another '80s movie in creating Season 3 – 1985's Fletch, reports Variety.

David Harbour, who plays Chief Jim Hopper on Stranger Things, said show creators Matt and Ross Duffer are relying on Fletch to help them add some whimsy to the third season. This is despite the season supposedly being darker, scarier, bigger, and broader than the first two seasons.

“The Duffers are so specific each year with the movies," said Harbour. "And Fletch is one movie we get to play around and have some fun with this season, which you wouldn’t expect from Stranger Things, and you wouldn’t expect from the Spielberg universe, and you certainly wouldn’t expect from a darker season."

Netflix Renews GLOW for Season 3

Netflix has renewed GLOW for Season 3.

The wrestling comedy's third season will consist of ten episodes, just like the first two seasons. A premiere date for Season 3 has not been announced yet.

The story, set in the 1980s follows struggling actress Ruth Wilder (Alison Brie) who, with the help from a troupe of other performers, launches an all-women wrestling TV show in Los Angeles.

In our review of GLOW Season 2 we said that, "the second season manages to outshine the first." GLOW recently received a few Emmy nominations, including one for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Crazy Rich Asians, The Meg Top the Box Office

Warner Bros. capped off a decent summer season with the historic release of Crazy Rich Asians, which exceeded expectations and took the top spot at the North American weekend box office with $25.2 million.

This marks the second straight box office win in a row for the studio, with last week’s gigantic winner The Meg dropping 53.4% to take second place with $21.2 million, bringing its domestic total to $83.8 million. On the flip side, the weekend’s other two new releases, STX’s Mile 22 and Sony’s Alpha, both underperformed, while the latest from embattled actor Kevin Spacey, Billionaire Boys Club, became the biggest bomb of the year with perhaps the worst opening weekend in recent memory.

Original Power Rangers Are Swapping Colors and Weapons

A new comic book cover for Saban’s Go Go Power Rangers series published by BOOM! Studios shows the original five Mighty Morphin Power Rangers with swapped colors and weapons.

Take a look:

Art by Dan Mora. (BOOM! Studios) Art by Dan Mora. (BOOM! Studios)

As you can see Trini is now the Red Ranger wielding the Power Sword, Jason is the Yellow Ranger with the Power Daggers, Billy is Black Ranger with the Power Axe, Kimberly is the Blue Ranger with the Power Lance, and Zack is the Pink Ranger with the Power Bow. This image was first shown at this past weekend’s Power Morphicon in Anaheim, California during the Boom Studios Presents: Shattered Grid and Beyond panel. Although the reason for the palette swap wasn’t given, we’re speculating that it has something to do with the fallout of the current Shattered Grid event storyline. Lord Drakkon’s master plan involves harnessing the Morphin Grid itself through violent means, so perhaps one of the side effects is the Power Rangers' powers going on the fritz and swapping to a different member of the team.

Just Cause 4’s Extreme Weather Isn’t Larger Than Life

‘Extreme Weather’ is touted as a defining feature of Just Cause 4, Avalanche Studios’ upcoming entry in the franchise. To raise the bar of open world action games, the studio rebuilt the Apex game engine from the ground up, giving them the necessary muscle to develop dynamic physics-based weather systems and spectacularly violent storms – including roaring blizzards, deadly sandstorms, torrential rain, forked lightning, and most notably, towering tornadoes, which we got a more in-depth look at in a recent Gamescom video.
