Incredibles 2: Biggest Opening Weekend Ever for an Animated Movie

Disney-Pixar's latest sequel, Incredibles 2, had the biggest opening weekend ever for an animated film - and it isn't even close.

Coming in during the lucrative Father's Day weekend, Incredibles 2 earned $180 million in the domestic market across 4,410 theaters, according to Variety. The previous record was held by Finding Dory, another one of Pixar's sequels that took forever to come out, which earned $135 million in its opening weekend in 2016.

Incredibles 2 also became eighth largest domestic opening of all time, overtaking another one of Disney's films for the spot: last year's Beauty and the Beast, which netted $174.6 million during its debut weekend.

Jump Force Is a Promising All-Star Anime Crossover with a Lame E3 Showing

Jump Force is not the first time the worlds of Dragon Ball, One Piece, and Naruto have crossed over in video game form. Seeing as its announcement comes on the 50th anniversary of Weekly Shonen Jump -- the weekly shonen manga anthology that houses each of those series -- Jump Force feels like it was designed to be a little extra special, even if its poorly tuned E3 demo seemed like it was designed to hold it back.

Mechanically, Jump Force will feel very familiar to those who have played the Tenkaichi games. In the 3-on-3 tag fighting game, the camera is always set behind your character and locked on to your opponent -- it never breaks away. You’re able to use high speed dashes to get in close very fast, perform quick side-to-side dodges to avoid incoming attacks and reposition, and block right before an attack to teleport behind your opponent.

Microsoft Has No Plans to Bring Virtual Reality or Mixed Reality to Xbox

Virtual reality and mixed reality gaming mostly took a backseat at E3 2018, with the big three console makers focusing on traditional games. And while Sony is still supporting its PSVR headset on PlayStation 4, Microsoft apparently has no interest in releasing a competing headset for Xbox.

"We don't have any plans specific to Xbox consoles in virtual reality or mixed reality," Microsoft Chief Marketing Officer Mike Nichols told GI.biz at E3. "Our perspective on it has been and continues to be that the PC is probably the best platform for more immersive VR and MR. As an open platform, it just allows faster, more rapid iteration. There are plenty of companies investing in it in the hardware side and the content side, or some combination therein.
