MechWarrior Online’s Solaris Update Makes You Feel Like a Giant Robot Gladiator

MechWarrior Online has grown massively in the five years since its initial launch. Developer Piranha Games tells me it has roughly quadrupled in size, now at over 100 unique mechs and over 1000 different variants, and tomorrow it’s getting its biggest update to date.

The Solaris update will bring in a whole host of changes to the game, but the main course is the Solaris 7 arena. Solaris 7 offers brand new 1v1 and 2v2 competitive modes, the first time MWO has had combat on such an intimate scale. It will have its own maps, leaderboards, and matchmaking rating called SSR, all injected with the flavor of the MechWarrior universe’s most famous gladiatorial setting.

Seth Rogen Doesn’t Believe North Korea Behind Sony Hack

Seth Rogen doesn't believe North Korea was behind the infamous Sony hack of 2014.

The actor, whose comedy The Interview was at the center of the maelstrom, has come to the conclusion that North Korea simply didn't have the means to pull off a hack of that magnitude.

“The truth is, I don’t think North Korea hacked Sony," Rogen said in a recent interview with The Daily Beast. "They don’t give a sh*t, and everything is a façade there. The notion that they have the capacity to do it is a façade. The more time I get from it, the more it doesn’t seem like what the consensus was at the time is what actually happened.”

Internationally, the Dwayne Johnson-led action movie fared better. Rampage earned approximately $114.1 million outside of North America, making for a current global total of $148.6 million.

The Simpsons Showrunner Addresses Apu Backlash

The Simpsons showrunner Al Jean has addressed the backlash for how the show dealt with the controversy surrounding Apu Nahasapeemapetilon.

Jean and the show were criticized for the recent episode "No Good Read Goes Unpunished," which dealt with the outcry over the stereotypical portrayal of one of the series' oldest characters in Apu (Hank Azaria.)

Before the episode aired, Jean tweeted, "New Simpsons in five minutes. Twitter explosion in act three." Jean followed up later by saying the show will try to find the right answer to the controversy. "I truly appreciate all responses pro and con. Will continue to try to find an answer that is popular and more important right," Jean tweeted.

Gwent Will Be Revamped

The Gwent development team has announced significant changes coming to the digital card game.

A post on the game's official website details what's to come in the upcoming revamp, dubbed Gwent Homecoming, after stating the Witcher spinoff had "slowly drifted away from our original vision of standalone Gwent."

Some of the big changes include adjustments to core mechanics, such as adding benefits to cards placed in their preferred row, potentially getting rid of rows entirely, and fixing imbalances around turn order.

The team plans to revamp the player progression aspect and implement a new leveling system with suitable rewards while bringing back a greater focus on skill and player agency rather than RNG. Cards that aren't as balanced may still find a place in casual and Arena mode, which was added in February.
