Hands-On with Valve’s New Game, Artifact
While Valve’s next game isn’t what many people were hoping for when it was initially announced, it’s still shaping up to be a whole lot of fun. Artifact is a Dota 2-themed digital card game that breaks a lot of the norms you might expect from a Digital TCG, then injects it chock full of lore and love for the MOBA it’s built around.
We went and played Artifact at Valve and seriously enjoyed it, but for two very different reasons. Miranda has over 1,200 hours in Dota 2, while Tom has tried basically every digital card game released in the last three years. Odds are you might also find yourself further to one side of that venn diagram, so here’s what we thought of our time with Artifact from each of those perspectives.
Dead by Daylight Creators Tease New 5v1 Shooter Deathgarden
Behaviour Digital, the developers behind Dead by Daylight, are teasing a new game called Deathgarden, with more to be revealed at PAX East next week.
According to Behaviour Digital, "Deathgarden is a brutal asymmetrical shooter, where powerful hunters prey on agile runners, in a spectacular dystopian bloodsport." It's a 5v1 shooter, and as you can see in the teaser video above, it definitely looks like it will be intense, if nothing else.
Above: The Saw DLC trailer for Behaviour's popular existing title, Dead by Daylight.
Deathgarden will be playable on the PAX East show floor, if you happen to be attending. You can sign up for the closed alpha on the game's website. For more on everything happening at PAX East next week, stay tuned to IGN at our PAX East 2018 hub.
Westworld Season 2: New Trailer Offers a Glimpse of Shogun World
HBO has released a new trailer ahead of Westworld's second season - and there's a few (very) brief shots of Shogun World inside.
The trailer gives us more of a look at the seemingly impending human vs. host war, across locations familiar and not-so-familiar.
Set to a typically disarming cover of Nirvana's "Heart-Shaped Box", the trailer eventually shows us a few small shots from the much talked-about second park - previously known as Samurai World - due to be revealed this season. Check it out below:
Disney’s Biggest Action Movie Failures
It may be hard to remember now that Disney dominates the box office every year with Marvel and Star Wars movies, but there was a long time when House of Mouse couldn't make a successful action movie to save their lives.
Granted, there are exceptions to this rule. Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean movies are blockbuster hits, the National Treasure movies made a killing, and the original 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is still a classic. But for the most part Disney usually seemed to have trouble making action-packed movies that could compete with other studios' kick-butt blockbusters, which probably explains why they felt the need to buy pre-existing franchises that already had a huge built-in audience.
Sharknado Franchise to End With Sixth Film
The Sharknado series is coming to an end with the announcement of the sixth and final instalment that ramps things up a notch by adding time-travelling into the mix.
TVLine reports that Sharknado 6, which is yet to get an official title, will follow on from Sharknado 5's riveting plot, that saw the world as we know it come to an end. In the climactic sequel, Fin Shephard (Ian Ziering) will travel back in time to stop the sharknado that put the chain of catastrophic events in motion.
What Did You think of This Week’s Comics?
The old IGN Comics review roundup may be retired, but we still want to make sure readers have a place to come together and discuss their favorite books of the week. Written by Scott Snyder | Drawn by Greg Capullo w/ Various Artists
"Dark Nights: Metal has certainly lived up to its name, cramming in all sorts of heavy metal-worthy imagery and crazy situations. That doesn't change one bit in the finale. The downside is that the series continues to be too overstuffed for its own good in its final chapter. As good a job as it does hyping up what's to come for the DCU, it doesn't quite carry the same weight as Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's best Batman stories." -Jesse
Jurassic World Evolution Wants to Show You The Best Dinosaurs You’ve Ever Seen
“We want to make the best dinosaurs you’ve ever seen,” said Jurassic World Evolutions’ Executive producer Rich Theobold, before revealing a ceratosaurus, its thunderous footsteps shaking the room as the devs let it loose into their custom-build park. Its pebbled skin glistens in the sunlight, a John Williams-alike score soars in the background.
It was a very good looking dinosaur, and one of over 30 (at launch) in Evolution, Frontier’s business sim set in the Jurassic Park/World universe where the goal is to build your own park empire. I’ll admit that the dinos were what I was here for; I’m a big series fan but relatively green when it comes to the genre. Fortunately Evolution feels accessible off the bat, and better still, deeply Jurassic Park-esque, an extension of the movie series rather than a sim with the good fortune to have the license.
Jurassic World Evolution Gets Official Digital, Physical Release Date
Frontier Developments' dinosaur park management sim Jurassic World Evolution will be released digitally on June 12 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, and physically on July 3 for PS4 and Xbox One.
Although Evolution's release date was accidentally leaked two weeks ago, this is the first we've learned of the physical release date.
Jurassic World Evolution was announced at last year's Gamescom. We recently went hands on with its first hour, and talked to its head of animation for an introduction to the game.
Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered Announced
THQ Nordic has announced a pun-tastic remaster of Red Faction: Guerilla coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One in Q2 2018.
Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered edition features native 4K support, improved lighting and shadow rendering, and fully reworked graphics. Xbox One X support will also be available at launch.
You can take a sneak peek at what all of that amounts to in the gallery below.
Guerrilla is set in 2125, 50 years after the events of Red Faction. The insurgent guerrilla fighters of the newly re-established Red Faction take on the Earth Defense Force to liberate Mars from its oppressive regime.
The original game was released in 2009, and we gave it an 8/10 for both the PC and console version, which didn't have the strongest story and character development, but there was great fun to be had elsewhere, with our reviewer saying, "the addictive thrill of pummeling buildings into tiny bits is something you won't regret experiencing."
